Hi Elaine, having seen the same type of situation, a possible suggestion would be to get him some of the liquid supplement drinks, which provide vitamins, minerals , protein etc, this would increase his energy and will probably stimulate his appetite. There is lots of nutrition in a small tin of supplement. here's a link to 'aska nutritionist' which may help: http://ensure.com/ask/index.aspx Hope this helps a bit, Mary

Elaine, she needs to be reported. She should not talk to him like that. It is obvious that he is having problems, which most probably have been caused by the stress and trauma of the operation. Bless him, does she not think he is sick enough without her abuse?
Everyone else, I am off to bed now so goodnight, have a very good sleep and I will see you all tomorrow. love to all, Deanna XXX

Goodnight all; our rain has stopped, sun is out, beautiful afternoon. Nobody told me when I said I would look after the children for 8 weeks, that it would involve having to help with homework LOL. Wow am I out of date or out of touch!!!! Turkey sausages are smelling wonderful, that with spuds and broccoli, sounds good to me. Anyone hungry? catch you all tomorrow. Mary

Oh dear Elaine. God help anorexics. No wonder they don't get help if dieticians talk to people like that. Try to see someone else next time.
Just looking in to see what sort of day you all had. Mine wasn't too bad. Got to work with out repetitive visits to the loo before I left home. Hope I can do it again tomorrow.
Start my six week course Wednesday " Becoming more confident". Two hours every Wednesday. Hope I don't get too bossy!! lol
Nite nite hope you all have a good nights sleep. I know you won't but I can wish for it. xxxx

Carole, good luck for the course and well done getting out without the usual problems, keep up the good work.
Mary, you are doing a sterling job, love.
Elaine, push for a different dietician to see you and your hubby, that one shouldn't be in work!
Love to all, and hugs too, Lizxxx

Hey Liz you still awake? I just finished baking 2 1/2 dozen yellow cupcakes for Sarah's class tomorrow as it's her 10th b'day on the 16th. The really good part about the baking is that it is gluten-free, dairy free and sugar free, they turned out delicate, light spongy, and I am delighted. Finally I am feeling some confidence in cooking with rice flour, tapioca flour and potato flour combo. When things turn out well, I am inspired to try more adaptations. They look a bit "different" but taste lovely. Colleen just called, she's a bit emotional as she won't be home for sarah's birthday, first one she's missed for any of the kids. But her course is going very well and her marks are reflecting her effort. When I had my 60th b'day, my 'kids' gave me a surprise party, and was I totally surprised. This year, Colleen turns 40 and I hit 65, on the same day. Rather than spend a lot of money on a fancy dancy party, I'm thinking I'd like to have an Open House,no gifts, as I don't need more "stuff" as you know LOL and invite friends to drop in for a few minutes or a few hours. To celebrate the people who have affected our lives, and have helped shape us into the people we are today. I'd like to surprise Colleen, but am afraid she'll try to do the same for me. Then we'll be in a pickle. I was talking to a friend this morning and told her my idea, and she suggested we ask everyone to bring "pot luck" appetizers to share. I'm not sure about that . . . Anyway as my cupcakes are cooling, I'm heading to bed, will have to be up before Sarah or there won't be any cupcakes for her class. Hugs MAry

Hi Mary, how lovely that you have made the cakes for Sarah's classmates. I thought when I saw the birthday thread that I wished I had known in time to send her a card, might do it anyway and she has it late. Hope she has a lovely day, it must be hard for Colleen but she will be home at the w/e? so can have two birthday celebrations. I know you are doing a brilliant job looking after the family, just make sure you take care of yourself as much as poss. Your open house idea sounds lovely, why not say to Colleen that you have thought about it and she can go along with that and plan for it too, then you can do things within the plan to surprise each other! Maybe with your friends such as the one this morning they could bring something along but anything that comes in, has to be clearly labelled cos of the dietary problems so might be easier not to have things unless you can be sure they are kept for visitors and not your young people. Hope you get some rest and we will talk soon Love Lizxx
did you hear any more about the accident, that hopefully everyone got out ok?

Hi everyone.
Mary have you any recipes for eggless cakes??? I have NO EGG, but it does not taste very nice in cakes.
Kathy if you get too stressed to post please PM one of us. You cannot depress the depressed. I have had great support from people on this thread when things are bad, it makes it so much easier to cope/manage.
Today, I mowed half our yard, have a ride on mower with a steering wheel knob. Had a lovely time. Knocked myself off it once trying to duck under a tree branch, did not quite manage and got caught on the branch and over I went, it was my right shoulder that got caught and did not feel it until too late. The mower cut out as it has a safety that switches off when not seated. Nearly p****d my self laughing. Had a lovely afternoon outside. Then washed the bathroom walls. Was very careful.
We had some rain over the weekend, but I am never happy and want more.
Still trying to shake the blues, getting there, very slowly. There is not as much water damage in the kitchen as first thought, so very relieved as repairs will be mainly cosmetic.
Love and hugs
Gail

Well... after telling Elaine to sort out that dietitian yesterday, my poor husband was treated with cold disrespect at the hospital today! Tony took him in for 12.30. the place has all changed and it is now a new *all singing, all dancing* posh building, with everything except RESPECT for the patient. They just took Allan away, did not allow tony to take his bag in for him, he did not get the chance to give his dad a hug..... and no information as to how long it may be! "Could be any time... even late evening" said with a heap of disinterest! I will wait until Allan is home and if they have treated him with the same coldness after the ward doors were shut.... I will phone tomorrow, and INTRODUCE MYSELF!
I spend quite a number of hours in that place myself... the old building... and have always been treated with great gentleness and respect. So has Allan when he has had to go. I am due for another colonoscopy in about a year, and will not be going until I have been assured of the treatment I am used to. the nurses in the old unit were second to none! W3hat has happened to our NHS? So much money being spent and so little interest in the people they purport to have spent it on!!
OKAY..... I'm finished for the moment, just had to have a moan... and in my opinion a worthy moan.
I hope he is okay and that he is not too ill after the anesthetic. He has to go to bed when he comes home and he has to do NOTHING!! That is like a swear word to Allan. I hope you are all well today and I am sorry but I don't have anything else on my mind... just Allan just now!
Look after yourselves and I will speak later. love Deanna XXX

sorry but i feel the need for a rant so I apologise to all before I start.
My daughter is driving me mad she is nearly 13 and seems hell bent on running away from everything at the first bit of difficulty she encounters and seems to have all the backbone of am jellyfish. She auditioned for a and got a part in the school production of bugsy malone but now she only wants to act she dosnt want to sing or dance which is slightly difficult since its a musical!!! tonight i spend time look for lyrics for her and printing them off found the videos on youtube so she could try and sing along and learn the words but all she did was make a very half hearted attempted and then said "i cant do this its too hard" and stormed off. She has just quit Sea cadets becuase "everyone hated her" and she only had 1 friend who now cant go. She seems only to want to do things if one of her friends is doing it and dosnt want to take the initiative for anything. I dont want her to end up like her father who tread the same narrow path in life and refuses to move outside his comfort zone and has this sort of weird reverse snobbery where he thinks its ok to be thick and uneducated.
And another thing is that i work full time i get fed up of her constant stream of complaints/whinges that great me every night when i come in.
teenagers who'd have em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rant over (for now)

Hello, noticed the thread title.
Here's a true story for you. A very long time ago in my teenage years, aged 18, after a period of depressions and anxiety, my doctor prescribed Valium twice a day .Initially it worked. After a while the problem returned. The dosage was upped to three times a day. A temporary cure. The problem came back later. What I did not understand at this time was I was an addict. My system wanted a fix The tablets were not changed, but the strength was increased. Time passed. Months became years. As the years passed I read stories of people becomming addicted to Valium and how it was only intended as a short term cure. I was dependent on Valium, an addict. The initial problem was history, but I needed the Valium.Eventually I made a decision to reduce the dosage, gradually. The was no ill effects so I reduced it some more over a long slow period of time.Eventually in my fifties I was down to one tablet a day quartered. Then after a while when I felt it was safe I halved this. Until I reached a point at age55 to do without a drug I had been addicted to since I was 18. I reckon I spent more than 35 years under the influence of a sedative. Now I am almost 63 years old. I dont miss them, I wouldnt take them if you paid me.Twelve years ago I also quit smoking cigarettes, so I was rid of two addictions.
I look forward to what years remain to me clean of these, and sometimes wonder why WHY I did'nt try to quit these dreadful addictions many many years earlier.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hello David. I'm afraid a lot of people were put on Valium years ago (had it myself) They didn't realise how addictive it is. Thankfully the tablets that are used now days are not so addictive. ( I've been on a few over the years). Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing your story.
Went in a charity shop at lunch time and saw a single bed. £60. It had a pine base and brand new mattress. Using my ( new) assertiveness I bought it for the spare room, so when Hayley comes to stay the bed will be more comfortable than the futon that is in there at the moment. I was so worried when I told oh. Thought he would be mad. But no, he was fine. Don't know why I was so worried.
Hope Kathy and Claire feel better for getting their worries in the open. Don't worry. What will be will be. If they don't want it, they will not try for it, and if it's you that wants it for them, it will not make them change their minds to want it too. Been there with my son and he works very hard now. I am proud of him.

Oh what a lovely day, woke up to mail from England and was very excited. It is my birthday on the 18 th, so will open it then. I will be 57.
Mary has sent me recipes for cakes.
Very tired and extremely sore today, so will not be mowing other half of the yard.
I have never been on Vallium in my life. So glad that anti depressant have come so far. They are a godsend and the reason I am still here.
Deanna I hope everything goes OK with OH. Must be very worrying for you.
I have had a couple of contacts from Hot Matches recently, it is on my OH's side and the maternal side which has been very interesting and productive. It makes it great when you can share information.
I hope everyone is well, I am now going back to read your posts.
Love and hugs
Gail
