Big Report 9 Aug 2011 14:27

I was looking for it as well. It is a shame that it appears to have been censored.

Just been reading in the foreign press how this whole thing is being sold to the people of Europe and wider - It seems that people outside the country are in many cases being sold the line that its a cival unrest thing about the cutbacks, stock market et el. Totaly wrong and damageing.

AnninGlos Report 9 Aug 2011 14:28

Pure criminality. I am sure the thread was here this morning.

Merlin Report 9 Aug 2011 14:38

Read in the Paper the other day that the Ex Chief of Police that was in New York (Cleaned the Place up with Zero Tolerance) said he would,nt mind taking the MET. on and running it as it should be. but people objected to it as he was,nt English.Shame we could do with somebody not afraid to Kick Ass and not worrying about being PC.**M**

AnninGlos Report 9 Aug 2011 14:43

I really think they should consider him for the post. American or not we don't seem to have anyone who is not afraid of the PC brigade.

My family live just outside Croydon and their little parade of shops was looted yesterday. My daughter in law took the grandsons to work with her for safety and then rung me to say that the building was set on fire by some as young as seven or eight. Luckily everyone got out in time. I've told them just to get in car and come here even if we all sleep on floor. It seems to me everyones human rights are taken into account apart from decent human beings of any race, religion or political view who just want to live normally and not be intimidated by others

Grabagran Report 9 Aug 2011 15:58

I just feel so sorry for those poor innocent people caught up in all this.
The photo of the woman jumping from the burning building, and the television crew who actually heard a woman shouting for help, as her and her kids were trapped in their home, affected by smoke from the burning roof, was so frightening.
People have lost homes, livelihoods and more.
I pray no bodies are found in the burnt out buildings.

Rambling Report 9 Aug 2011 16:08

Jiminy C GR has removed many threads as well as comments on the FB page...I believe it has been decided on many forums not to 'advertise' the actions of the criminals nor to encite irresponsible comments from the ignorant racists who use any opportunity to spread their particular brand of poison. ... ( eg an idiot on FB!)

Watched sky this mornning - I saw the Teresa May interview (never seen her in action before) I must say that she did not in anyway fill me with confidence. There was a retired Police man of high ranking also interviewed and I found him interesting, particulary with regard to what he did not say but hinted at.

Helen in Kent Report 9 Aug 2011 16:37

My son is a Greenwich uni student and has been staying with a friend in Eltham; he just rang to say he is coming home because Eltham shops are being boarded up and so are the uni buildings. What a shame. The sooner this stupid behaviour is stopped, the better.

Instigating a curfew might be good for starters.
Yes I know a lot of people wouldn't like it, and it is a total inconvenience, and the PC Brigade would have plenty to bleat about - BUT, if it's the start to a solution, then so be it.

In the recent troubles here in Cairo, the first curfew was 8pm - 6am, and too bad to all those it didn't suit. When that was found not to be working quickly or efficiently enough, the curfew was changed to 6pm- 6am, and finally because of continuing trouble, it became 4pm-6am. Then, gradually it was relaxed, and only recently has it been lifted altogether, the final one being 2am-5am.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that internet and mobile phones were cut for 10 days...yes, 10 days! Inconvenient isn't the word, but they did it, and that was that. It certainly put paid to any rallying round setting up satellite protests/riots - as Britain is now seeing in other areas of London, and in Bristol & Birmingham.

I'm not saying it was the right thing to do, however it worked.

Trouble these days is that Britain's politicians are too busy pussyfooting around; the Police have one arm tied behind their backs trying to do their job; and anyone with any authority is too afraid of their own shadow. Britain needs an authority with a backbone.
I'm fed up hearing on the news that 250 or 550 arrests have been made. I'm sure most people don't give a flying fig how many arrests have been made, what they really want to hear is that something positive and effective is being done about what's happening, and sod the pc doogooders at the moment!

There now, got that off me chest!!
Sorry if I cause this to get whooshed, but it isn't malicious and I do feel we have a right to duscuss current affairs.

Just popped in to say that I didn't delete my thread so GR must have done.

I only hope there's no more rioting tonight, but I wont hold my breath.

I believe, all the bulls kn*ckers, 'as my hubby calls them' sorry criminals, should be rounded up and all shackled together at the ankles, and paraded around the whole of London or whatever city they come from, for a whole week and only given bread and water.

Stay safe eveyone.

Just an expression of sadness at some history having been destroyed - since 1867 for several generations, this family firm's building endured two world wars; yesterday the building was destroyed:

On the right is the Reeves Corner island. This is named after the furniture store (established in 1867) occuping several premises here.

BarneyKent Report 9 Aug 2011 19:19

I expect the thread was pulled because there were too many opinions like mine....... we already have the answer to these riots on the Statute Book. Its called "THE RIOT ACT"

Call in the forces, make a curfew and anyone on the streets after a certain time will be shot.

Job done.

What we don't have is a politician with the guts to bring it into force.

Wonder how long it will be before some do-gooder complains about this comment and gets it pulled.
