Dionne

Someone found a death for Edwin William Livermore in 1972 (see p 31). This seems likely to be Dorotheas brother, as birth year is right. Just found a mention of him in London Gazette - presumably to do with his estate.

Edwin William Livermore, died 10/10./1972. Address 3 Ashdowne Rd, Hillingdon, Middx. Occupation Ret'd Police Officer. Also gives name and address of his solicitor.

If Edwin retired from the Police before 1969 (he would have been 58 then), and if he was in the Met Police, his record will be at Kew! Happy to look, but might be a long search, not knowing his retirement date. What would retirement age have been? Anybody know? Would it have been 55? If so, could look at records around 1966

Good evening everyone.

Good luck with your search Kay.

Ann you have been busy again. So Edwin went from the RAF to the Police Force. How interesting. I will order the death certificate for him as found on page 31.I would not have a clue on the retirement age sorry Ann.

I have sent messages to tree matches and letters over the last few weeks but so far the only responses I have had have been on my mothers side of the family tree. It seems my fathers side are very quite. If i do hear anything then I will make sure that you are all the first to know.

I start my new job tomorrow so will not be about untill around 7pm.

Many thanks everyone
Dionne

Re Police retirement age:

I believe currently it is based on length of service ie 20 or 25 years, not actual age. I don't know if that would have been the same back then. So still not a lot of help to pinpoint the year to look for!

Hi All.

Just poping in quick as I am at work and on a quick break. I have nothing fresh to report.I have had no replies from the tree matches or any ot the letters that I have sent.
I am really not sure as to where to go from here.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for your reply, Pamela. I've actually asked an older person in the last few days who had worked with retired Met Police and he thinks retirement age was between 52 and 55. So I'll start with 1966 and go backwards!

How many letter have you written, and how long ago? If it's at least a couple of weeks, I'd be ringing the people, assuming you have the phone numbers, and giving them some waffle about problems with your local post and you're just ringing to make sure they got your letter, then bringing the conversation around to the questions you want answered! The worst they can do is say they don't know anything, or they're not interested, so worth a try.

Hi Ann.

Sneaking a quick break again at work. I dont have the phone numbers Im afraid.I have written a couple of letters on the Sloper side of the tree. Do you remeber Herbert Sloper who took his daughter Jean Ann to Wales? I wrote to a few members of her family. I have heard nothing.

I also wrote to a few decendents of the Livermores although those were only just under two weeks ago so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I might get a reply.

I might try and search for some numbers this evening when I have finished work and take the bull by the horns so to speak and call.

Hope your full time job going well!!

You could ask Jean on her thread 'are you looking for someone' to see if the phone numbers are listed on the electoral roll? - worth a try.

Good luck

I am ex-directory as far as phone books are concerned, but I though if you put your number on the electoral registration form it still came up on the electoral roll? I have looked for people on 192.com and got telephone number off of the electoral roll.

Good evening everyone

Due to my work commitments at the moment I am really stuck for time.I am really enjoying my new job but it is taking up most of my day.I have decided to find the telephone numbers of the people I have written to over the weekend and then try and call them.

Some members here gave me addresses on the Sloper and Livermore side of the tree.I will re go through the messages here to double check that I have the corrct contact names etc.

Also today I recieved some photos from a wonderful lady who had a distant link with the Livermore tree.
Edwins father William married Sarah Ann Harvey. She had a brother named Joseph.Joseph had a son and I have pictures of this son and his wife. I think it works out that he is a forth cousin of my fathers.I know it is very distant but he is still an ancester and it will be great to show the photos to my father. So I have managed to obtain photos on both sides of my fahters family tree.

Catch you all soon
