Don't think you'll never find out - one of the people you've contacted might know what happened to him. I'll send the service records to you on Monday.

So the two nice ladies could have been his granddad's sisters; his great aunts?
Could their details be traced through old phone books or electoral? Is there something on ancestry?
Does he remember any children or young adults when he stayed in Clacton with the nice ladies?
Just trying to think of other angles. I can't remember if we traced Edwin's sisters marriages and worked forward.

Hello Selena.
The only memory my father has at the moment are the two really nice ladies and the parrot. I think I mentioned in a previous posting that there are only two photos of my father taken in his childhood. One of them is him sat on a donkey.Would you beleive that today he told me that photo was taken at Clacton on Sea.
I am hoping that maybe in time more memories will come back to him.he got a little upset today saying why couldnt he remember things from his childhood.i tried to explain that sometines you tend to block the bad things out and only remeber the good and 'look dad you are remember because you remember happy times at Clacton.
I also appear very up beat when I talk to my father about his past but in side I am very sad.My dad really didnt have a childhood and I cant beleive that my grandmother did some of the things that she did.If she were alive today I would want answers, I can remember when I had not long met her that she would moan at my mum because she didnt like the close relationship I had with my father.
Im sorry friends I am just having a moan here and I understand that the records office thread is not for this sort of thing.I can only say that I am sorry.
To go back to the sisters.I have gone through the notes and these are the marriages
Livermore Alice M Handley Gravesend 2a 843 march 1912 - Charles E Handley
2nd marriage of Alice
Alice M Livermore M Tott Edmonton 3a 884 March 1924 - George H Tott Livermore Florance E Bloomfield Colchester 4a 1031 March 1925
Livermore Edith Annie Smith Colchester 4a 1308 3rd qtr 1903 - Charles Smith.
I have been doing some searching around the Colchester and Clacton on Sea area but have not been sucessful yet.

Sorry to hear that your mother fell and hurt herself on Friday - hope she recovers quickly.
Also read your update posting about your father yesterday. It is clearly a very emotional journey you are all going through. Sometimes it is good to live for today and to shut out the past. We cannot change the past but we do have a say in our present and our future.
The way your father has dealt with his awful childhood should be respected - he has come out of it with such dignity and gone on to have a close and loving family himself.
Dorothea was clearly jealous of your relationship with your father - perhaps she regretted not having the same relationship with her son. She will have died with that regret - and you should take comfort from that - she does not seem to deserve our respect or forgiveness. I know there are many sides to a story and who are we to judge, however ......!!
Be proud of who you are and where you came from.

Hi Wayne.
Im feeling very sorry for myself as I have terrible flu.
There are no updates Im afraid.I am in touch with two nice ladies who are helping me search for the two adopted sisters. But it is a very long shot.
Im also trying to find further information on the marriages of Edwins sisters as I have a gut feeling that my father might have stayed with one of them when he was a child. But no luck yet.
Thanks for asking and hope you are well.

Dionne, I know I have come to this very late in the day, but I wondered if you showed your father a map with the Clacton area on it he might pick out any other places that rang bells from childhood.
I know all people seem old when you are a child, but has he got any idea what sort of generation the lady was with the parrot?
I am sure you will be right that they will turn out to be a relation.
I was helping a friend (aged 70) trace her grandfather's family, he was adopted from birth, and knew nothing of his birth mother, only learning her name from acquiring his birth cert when he was 63. He remembered being taken to visit a grocers shop in Putney when he was small and had the feeling it was a family member or something he was taken to visit. In the past 3/4 weeks we have traced both his adoptive family and his birth mother, and we found the birth mother lived and worked in a grocers shop in Putney!! So no doubt he was taken to see her, albeit that he wasn't told what the connection was.
Good luck with the rest of your searching.

Hi Diane
What a lovly story on your friend.I do agree with your advice and I will be speaking with my dad soon.
A small update for you.
Today I received an email from a lady on the Sloper side of the family tree. Herbert Sloper (my dads father) had a brother called Henry.Henry had a son(my dads cousin) who had a daughter. Her daughter got hold of me to say her mother was away on holiday but it looks like yes I am correct and my father and her mother share the same great grandparents. She will give her the information on her return from holiday and get her to contact me.
I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that she will be able to give me some more information on my dads fathers side of the family. So watch this space.
I am still no closer to finding out anymore information on Edwins sisters apart from who they married. I think I am going to have to close the book on Edwin now. I received Edwins Army records today that Ann so kindly sent me.I spent a good hour on the phone to her this evening. What a lovly lady. Thanks again Ann.

Hi Dionne, I also have been following this thread, what an interestng book this could make,., However you mention a George H TOTT, and EDMONTON, have you looked at the TOTT s in FBMD there are quite a few of them, in the Tottenham, Edmonton & Enfield area as well as some in Clacton on Sea, also on the search trees on this site GR, it would be worth contacting some of them in my humble veiw. Keep up the good work & Good luck. BOB,.,

Death Florence E Bloomfield age 79 Colchester 1st qtr 1966 vol 4a page 756
she would have been born 1886/1887
Florence stayed in the right area - wonder if the address on her death certificate could be checked on the electoral roll for the time that your father stayed in Clacton?

Enjoyed talking to you tonight and thank you for your kind words on here!
Have been going cross-eyed tonight, looking for your family, but sad to report, haven't found anything!
Perhaps it might be a good idea to list what you want to find out about now - it's all very confusing, not knowing where we've all got to!
