Ja...x, my mum used to shimmy round the kitchen pulling a stool behind her when she was cooking. She could have done with something on wheels like that.

She used to have great heavy old fashioned callipers on her legs and my dad used to go behind her lifting her legs one after another for her when she was going upstairs.

She had them when I got married and went to the church early so that she didn't have to 'clump' down the aisle as the bride's mother. They took our photos with both her and my mother-in-law sitting on chairs and the came out smashing. Looked really good.

Dont think £60 is too bad Dea.

But have you got the commode one Ja..x?

Cyn

that's the first I knew about a "little man" lol!!

Hope the dribbling eases off

mine has had a temproary plate with 2 teeth on it for literally months now, and severla more still to go

He can't eat with it in, so he slips it out, semi-quietly ........ or it falls out!

It often slips out of place

still .... it's either that or see the gap in the right upper teeth every time he talks or smiles!

Dea

No, we don't have fortnights over here ................ so no wonder you confused your cousins!

You very quickly learn to change your vocabulary

two weeks instead of fortnight

hood ....... bonnet

trunk ....... boot

I'll call you .......... I'll phone you

they called ......... they phoned

wake me up in the morning .......... knock me up in the morning <<<< that has a whole different connotation!

gas ......... petrol

diapers ...... nappies

elevator ...... lift

escalator ........ ??? not sure what you call it

moving walkway ............ ??

duster ......... housecoat

then we get into the different terms for clothing .... jumper, sweater, pinafore, etc etc

on and on it goes

strange thing is that I found when I came over here that I did in fact know most of the American terms ..... from watching movies, but the reverse did not apply

Ja..x, hope you get the support you need and don't have to buy everything yourself. We still have a very nice commode chair which my mum bought privately. It looks like a normal chair with wooden arms and you can buy a new pan thingey if you need - which we did. Not using it yet, but with OH and his Parkinson's........!!! Fortunately, he can still scoot up and down stairs extremely well.

duster ......... housecoat

Bet that one would really confuse Cyns as she constantly seems to have a duster (english version) or an iron stuck in her hand, but I have been told that you can get an operation to separate them from you.

Nice one JC.

"Loose"all your money in the casino Ja...x and then you can go back to Social services and plead poverty.
Thats what someone I know did,but really they banked the dosh with a trusted person and no one can trace your gambling losses so how can they prove you didnt?

Tuts,I shouldnt be advocating fraud, but hey,you paid your taxes etc,why not get some back and still keep some rainy day money....

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Oct 2010 19:49

we found out about the dusters very early on

OH lived in the US for the 6 months before we married, and did the basic setting up of the apartment.

One day he decided he needed some dusters to do some h*******k, so he went down to the local little mall, into the department store, and asked for "dusters"

He was directed up the escalator, turn left, then right ... you get the idea

Did all that

and found himself in Ladies Lingerie

...... among all the housecoats

duly labelled "Dusters"

we told my father about this

and later we got a present from him

12 yellow dusters!

I think I still have about 4 of them, untouched, after 40+ years!

and I've given 3 or 4 away as well
