It was just a poster who Tracey thought was new but I had had contact with them back in May...blah blah blah. I sent Tracey a pm but she didn't get back to me.......sigh

Feel better now?

Anybody remember Ms Augusta? A brit comic strip, we used to get it here years ago. Nobody could understand it because of the brit expressions. People wrote letters to the editor saying things like "Money for old rope? What does that mean??" (She had wondered what ghosts do, and when she found out they just hang around and haunt, she said "Oh, money for old rope.")

Anyhow, one storyline had her writing her own newspaper. She interviewed her brother Clive, and said "What are you up to, Clive?" Clive said "Oh, not much." Her report said: "Clive says he is not up to much."

Before my time JC,before my time.
And even if it wasnt us poor hill farmers couldnt afford newspapers other than the local for the animal mart and farm sale fixtures..:)

But I do get where you are coming from with the "Clive says he is not up to much."
Refers back to Ja...X..;'{<

Before your time, FBG?

Hmm. It was in the 1980s, I believe ...

My mum used to clip Ms Augusta from my hometown newspaper and send them to me.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 4 Oct 2010 16:25

Ahh,... 1980s I was busy having babies ,working in betting shops or driving round the countryside doing local markets,no time for reading papers..In fact lucky to get time to shower ,and when I did it was normally with a rugbrat under my arm...

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 4 Oct 2010 17:36

I'm beginning to think I made her up! But no, I did find one reference to her on line, to someone who apparently negotiated the syndication deal for the strip. So it must have existed.

"Rugbrats"? Ah, local dialect. Rugrats, as I know 'em.

hmm

just been into the kitchen

lots of wood curls from the 3 holes he's drilled in the floor!

wall is lath and plaster (as we knew) ................. so chipping away the plaster around the old pipe actually removes quite a large swathe

Knowing from past experience how difficult it is to get a nice smooth repair, it's a good job any repair work will be behind the back of the cupboard!

Cynthia Report 4 Oct 2010 18:33

Do you have 'fortnights' in Canada Sylvs and JC? My Canadian cousins had no idea of what I was talking about when I used the word to them.

OH has had a temporary cap fitted to a tooth and has been dribbling and drooling all over the place......he'll be dribbling and drooling when he gets the bill!! He drank his teatime wine through a straw would you believe???? I mean, nothing must keep a man from his wine must it?

Ooooh....when did Sylvs get a 'little man' in? Kept that quiet you dark house you!

Ginny dear, kindly keep your sicckies to yourself, we all have enough problems to cope with thanks. Get well soon though - it's not going to stop you typing is it??

Gee

Dea Report 4 Oct 2010 18:36

Cynths - Tell OH he is a 'man after myown heart' !!

Wine dos not agree with all my 'meds' but I have little sipps here and there, just to feel 'normal' - I would suck it through a straw if I thought it would go un-noticed !!!!
