Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 8 Dec 2008 03:31

Hi Bernie, sorry you can't sleep yet. I am sure the coffee is making you buzz too, so cutting back might be a big help, and even if it doesn't stop the high you are feeling when you want to sleep, avoiding kidney stones will be a big plus, they are awful, more painful than when I was in labour lol

Cut back on the coffee slowly tho or you could get withdrawal symptons if you drink a lot, ideally eventually, one or two cups a day is more than enough and never near bedtime, so maybe a morning one to start your day and a mid afternoon one to pick you up if you are flagging, or at worst, a small one after your evening meal if not too late. You might see a big difference.

Fruit teas are quite nice but I now drink more water, with just a small amount of high juice tupe squash in, I like the cranberry/raspberry/blueberry one but make it very weak. Might mean I am in the loo more often but better than kidney stones!

Bananas are good to eat before bed as they have something in them which can help you sleep.

Hope you feel sleepy soon,
Lizx

Sharron Report 8 Dec 2008 11:01

Gail, finding things to keep him busy is wearing me out.It all has to be organized with military precision and he always can think of some dreadful thing that will happen.

Latest one,we have him going to the next village on the bus with his mate to deliver a letter to the doctor about a bus pass on Wednesday.

Last night he asked me how he might get on if it snowed. I told him that if it snowed or if there had been a tsunami I would not make him go.However,if a tsunami was promised for the time he would be there, then he was definitely going!

Trouble is, I have to keep finding more things for him to do. At this rate he will be seeing me off!

Bernie,if you are up and wandering at night quite often, how about getting a planosphere. If I can't sleep.apart from working out how long it would take to suffocate the other half with the pillow, I try to pick out the constellations.

I have a book about moths too, identifying them can while away several dragging hours and they are very beautiful.

Sorry,I don't do medical, but I do hope everybody is feeling as good as they can despite it being as grey outside as it can be.

Hi all,
sharron there has to be a limit to the number of jobs you can get your dad to do. (I mean from the point of view of you finding them.

Has he got any old photos? If you could scan them he could then use the scanned copies to make a scrap book. My dad did this after he'd had a stroke, unfortunately he used original photos (he used to take loads) and when he was in the residential home he had the scrap book with him and it disappeared. He did it hilighting the fashions of the day. He used prit stick as the glue.

Bernie, Hope your OH gets over his flu soon and you don't catch it. I never drink coffee after about 4pm as it keeps me awake. If I want a hot drink in the evening I usually have peppermint or lemon tea.

Hi Liz, rushing through the thread at some ungodly hour as usual I see!!

Jude, you smell lovely after your shower!!

Gail I hope you waited for your OH to get home before painting the top of the arch. envious of your summer now, it is bitterly cold here and damp and miserable. and I am coughing for England.

Mary, could just eat your chili!!

Kathy hope you are better now.

Hi everyone, hello and welcome to Bernie, you have joined a great cyber family here. Nice to see you here as well Jude.
Ann thank you for your card, got it last week but don't think I have been on since, beautiful card as well, I used to make my own but it is too much trouble now. I have to write mine this afternoon, no chance of resting today, I have only got the ones to Australia and Holland off so far.
The extra 10mg of morphine is working well, I feel so comfortable most of the time, the doctor has altered the dose on the computer this morning so I will be staying on 40mg twice a day with the quick booster ones when I need it.
Deanna it is lovely to see you on here again, we have missed you so much, and you are like a miracle woman the way you have fought back so quickly.
Sharron, when my mum lived with us after her stroke, she liked to try and help me do my jigsaws, the peices were too small for her to cope with though. I bought her some with medium size peices and pictures that interested her and she would spend hours doing them. It helped her eye and hand coordination, but maybe your dad wouldn't sit still long enough where my mum would.
Can I ask you to keep fingers crossed for me tomorrow please, I am going for an x-ray on my lung that has fluid in it. Just my luck for the b****r to have spread from bones to soft tissue now.
I won't mention anybody by names because I can't think and will miss someone out, but sending big hugs for you all.

Caz xx

Thanks for your suggestions Caz and Ann.There are three jig-saws and a roll to keep them on at home because he is a spoilt brat who decided he didn't like jig-saws after I had come home with them.

I can't see the scrap book idea working either. How I ever got him to do colouring I don't know.I must have caught him off guard or something! Of course, once he had tried it he loved it!

It is the spirit of beligerence that keeps us going. He was always a keen gardener but, after I had bought a lot of containers for him to grow things in,decided he wouldn't do it.He will do it for other people.

There is not a lot to choose between my dad and a Rubik's cube.!

There are always lots of very good reasons he can't do something until I damned well make him do it and he finds it is easy and he enjoys it.Often I have spent a long time organizing it in the background and he knows I will crown him if he doesn't do it then,

Evening all,

Welcome to all the new posters. Hope all the 'old ones' are not feeling too bad.

Will post at a later date.Just want to say that this weekend was really nice. There was 13 of us, my ex. behaved well, so it was a big success. The Feast of St. Nikolaas was a really old-fashioned celebration. All got up rather bleery-eyed, due to not sleeping much, but it was really worth it. Spent some hours yesterday cleaning after everyone left.
By the way, I have eaten bananas of an evening for yonks, because they contain Melatonin & Serotonin, both which help you sleep. Can't help thinking of the song, 'Mellow Yellow' from back in the early '70s.

Sleep well everyone.

OMG it's happened, I got my letter confirming my application for Canada pension plan. I am really an OAP now, how did this happen so quickly????
We are back on laundry patrol today, the kids heads have sprouted more creepy crawlies and 2 sent home from school, despite having been treated twice already, and now I've developed a generalised rash, which is suspiciously like scabies so treated as such. $300 for the lotions and potions to treat the whole family, and wash everyone's bedding yet again. I'm going broke on laundry soap.
How can someone who washes and showers daily be infested like this. It's all beyond me. Feel so grubby.
Sending YCaz gentle hugs, hope the MRI isn't too tiring for you, and you have good ear plugs.
Deanna so glad to see you back in form.
Bernie, hope today has been brighter for you.
Hugs to everyone else,
Mary

Mary they do say that nits and crawlies only like clean hair so don't feel grubby.

Sharron

Sharron Report 8 Dec 2008 21:38

I have picked up head lice twice. They are endemic in schools I believe.

Each time I found that plastering my hair thickly with conditioner and combing it well with a nit comb having left it in for as long as possible made the little varmints feel unwelcome.

Then they were depatched to a watery grave with some shampoo,Aah!

When you have a lot of other things to deal with they are something of an unwanted addition though aren't they?

Managed to paint half of the archway, rest is up the ladder and will have to wait for the weekend when OH is home. Could not paint yesterday as was trying to rain, only ended up with sprinkles all day.

Hi Caz, good to see you, hope x-ray goes okay for you.

Remember head lice well from when mine were at school. I also remember getting them when at school, mother shaved brother and my hair off and doused our heads with kerosene. Still remember how much it burned. Lucky nobody lit a match around us.

Love and hugs

Gail

Edited, took off my sad bits as no one was posting, sorry.

Morning Bernie:o))

Just popped back on before having my shower, hubby's in there at the moment no room for me!!!! lol

Sorry your feeling so low, good that you're seeing the shrink (as you put it) and hope she/he can suggest something for you. Don't apologise for being low its not your fault and no one on here is going to have ago at you, its good that you feel you can talk to us. Have you tried writing things down for goals to aim at, just little things that at the moment you feel you can't do, if nothing else it will give you something else to think about.
Take care:o)

Hope everyone else is feeling better this morning.

Gail:o) hello to you too, what did you delete, you know you can put anything on here especially if it helps you by doing it. You take care.
Hows your daughter??

Y/Caz - hope xray goes well, take care:o)

Ann Gloucester - do hope your cold is sorted and that orrible cough!!
