David Report 24 Nov 2008 09:19

The psysiotherapists had me on crutches in less than 2 weeks. I was extreemly reluctant because each step I walked was putting my whole body weight through the sites of my pelvic fractures and soft tissue damage

I cried, I shit myself. Yes it was kind of painful

David, physios are cruel sums of birches. Can you walk okay now though.

I remember my physio putting me through all sorts of cruelty. She ended up putting a stop to it as said something is seriously wrong here. She was right and after 18 months of trauma they discovered my neck was broken in 3 places. No wonder I could not hold my head up or walk properly.

We are lucky in one respect, we did survive and many do not.

David Report 24 Nov 2008 10:14

I can walk Gail without sticks.

I used crutches for 2 months, then sticks for a long time, then one stick.

In June of 1995 I threw away my stick and my last cigarette, never smoked since

What had made this period of recovery so difficult in an emotional sense is the fact that I had watched my mother die in the ICU a few months before the RTA. Physical pain and emotional pain cause deep depression.

I returned to work at the end of August 1995. My walking is slow, often aches, but I can walk

Incidently, the day I quit smoking was June 13, my parents wedding anniversary

Cruel sons of birches eh? Do they have any vacancies?

I wonder if my old dad would have walked again if we could have had even sight of a physiotherapist more than once since he has been home. An occupational therapist wouldn't come amiss either. We are having the speech therapist come every three months just so we can keep in touch with somebody.

He had a good little eighty-ninth yesterday.Partner wheeled him round the road to a woman who is friendly with him where he had some cake and sherry and a cup of tea.He probably thought he was having a disco!

I agree Sharron I would not be where I am without them. Mine did admit she was a sadist. If you heard my accent you would probably send me the speech therapist as well.

We just had a blackout (electricity) so could not get back sooner. So had a lovely hot bath with candle light.

89, wow happy birthday yesterday he of the lefthand wheels.

GranOfOzRubySlippers Report 24 Nov 2008 11:27

I have the jar opener and the tin opener. My tin opener just sits on the top of the can you press a button and goes round and round then shuts itself off. Does his do the same. Actually I have two jar openers the other is called the OH.

So how did you break your neck in three places ??

One broken neck is more than enough for most

Gail is in Australia David, most likely in bed now.

Hello all, I rang Chris this morning and would you know it she is off sick. I spoke to one of the other nurses who listened and agreed with me entirely, she had a word with oncologists secretary who is going to tell him to ring Nadine (the nurse) when he comes off ward. She will find out what it is all about and if I am right she will tell him no, don't want it.

Hope everyone is keeping snug and warm, it's freezing here and keeps hailing.

Love and hugs to all
Caz xx

Hello everyone, what are we doing on page eight? Only Liz posted yesterday, are we all suddenly feeling better or maybe too busy with Christmas. I haven't even thought about it yet, I'm going to have to get my cards done as some need to be sent a long way.
Macmillan nurse rang to say they are still chasing my information up so I will have to wait.

To those peeps I pm regularly, I can't type for long now owing to hands but I can still read so can you let me know how you are, specially Christine.
Has anyone heard from Angela lately? I do hope she is doing ok.

Love and hugs to all

Been very quite here.

My excuse Caz is getting ready for wedding this weekend. I cannot seem to get going though, so lucky gave myself a few days. Organising for pets to be looked after is the hardest.

Thinking of all of you.

Love and hugs

Morning everyone, Sorry I've not been on, this will be a quicky too as I have to go to the dreaded dentist again today in about an hour.
Yesterday I went into town with mum to meet up with my sister for her 41st birthday, it turned into a bit of a disaster, can't go into detail here but my sister is unwell mentally and drinks far too much, we ended up having a blazing row, but it was all sorted in the end, she instigates these rows and then wonders why half the family don't have anything to do with her. I know she is ill but she won't have any help for her illness and won't listen when we are worried.
I know I must be mad as I am going out with her again today after the dentist just for a couple of hours.
Good News!!
My youngest son that left home to live with his girlfriend moved back home yesterday, he finished it with g/friend and wants his own space back, lovely to have him home but what a mess the place is in now.
I must admit I am really happy to have him back, Ive missed him so much.

Love and hugs to all

Off to my nlp, lol, not sure why - will tell him today I am not going under!

Love and hugs to you all,

Caz, quite understand love, don't worry.

Gail, have a good time, you should have asked me earlier, would have come and chook sat etc lol

Gillie, good for you for making the effort and hope your sister can be ok today. Nice to have your son back but if like me and mine last year in Malta, hard to get used to sharing space again. Maybe cos mine has been living away from me for so long.

Love to everyone, must go,

Hi Everyone, just a quickie, Macmillan nurse rang this afternoon saying she'd had a word with the doctor who sent me for MRI scan. Said she wanted another one as the one last week was inconclusive, didn't say why she wanted it though. The nurse told her I didn't want radiotherapy, she told me to cancel next weeks scan and she will have a good talk to me on the 17th, my next appointment. I am still having trouble with my back because I had to lay flat, it's alright for the doctors they don't have any problems. FGS they even sent a hospital bed to my home because I can't lay flat, what does she want to do, break my back?

Sorry I got a bit angry but it hurts.

Caz xx
