Hi all, Thought I'd have a short visit on the computer. Everything is packed and washing and ironing finished. I've been sitting making more cards. The weather is very windy and raining non stop. Yes, it was very windy here also in the night. Just had to break this message as I was chatting with my daughter. Fun, isn't it? I don't think I'll need sunglasses, maybe wellie boots. If I get blown across the Channel, you may see a bedraggled figure on your shores - speaks English, but will need a bed for the night! What a pity Jude is going to leave us. Another good writer gone. I shall miss her episodes, just as I miss Di's. Keep the thread going. Love, Sylvia xxx

Evening all, I just realised I haven't looked in all day! We had visitors, then visited Mum, cooked a meal at teatime and seem to have been busy all day! My run of good luck continues - I got 4 numbers on the Lotto last night and am another £72 richer! It is ages since we even got £10. I may end up renewing my membership yet - just that there are always things to pay for. I haven't read everyone's postings yet but will look in again tomorrow. Perhaps something else will arrive in the post to swell the coffers. Perhaps some long lost millionaire has died leaving me all his money - then again probably not! Sleep well. Elisabeth xx PS Have a good trip Sylvia!

hi all, realised I haven't looked in for a couple of days. jude don't go.... please.... we will miss the stories about Madoc. it has been very cold here today, thought it was going to snow, had a flurry first thing, then it stopped and that was it, so all those children who got excited when they saw the first flake were disappointed. yesterday went up to webbs and then back to the golf club for lunch. Today we were invited in to have lunch with our neighbours to christen their new dining room. They did a Christmas dinner which was very nice, home made pudding and all. other than that, wrote a couple of letters and spent the rest of the time mesmerised by the boards. aren't the photos of the meet up great? sylvia, have a lovely time, will look out for you sailing overhead if you et caught in a large gust. No more news now. take care everyone Ann Glos

Hi everyone, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY It's still very windy here and cold with it even thought the sun is shining. Yesterday, being as it was too cold to go out, I spent most of the time writing notes on my rellies to forward to this man who has sent me all this information. It was a trip down memory lane for me, as I remember a lot of the places I was writing about. Fred, Sorry to hear about your heater packing up, you certainly need one this weather. I have a heater in my garage from when I had my kiln, when I was preparing the greenware ready for firing it was cold without it. I haven't used it since but keep holding on to it just in case I need it. Brenda, That dinner sounds delicious, you are making me hungry now. I think John deserved his time watching the match if he had been through here, I think the snow must have been between here and Manchester, because between here and Cleveleys was clear. Good luck with the rellie hunting. Sylvia, I hope you have a good trip, pity it cant be a bit warmer for you but I am sure you will enjoy yourself. If you fly my way, drop in for a cuppa, lol Jude, I hope it wasn't cold water you were hosing poor Madoc down with, poor Madoc he will think he's been naughty. lol Beckham is only small, so I throw an old bath towel over him and take him to the shower, he just stands there, he loves it. I hope you change your mind Jude but at least we have a little more time to enjoy your stories. Elisabeth, Congratulations, I hope your run of good luck continues, we dont want to lose you either, we like our little safe haven here with our friends. You joke about being left money but a friend of mine had Fourteen thousand pounds left her by an aunt she scarcely knew, anyway here's hoping. Ann, Glos, I dont think you have any time for news with all that eating, lol I'm only jealous really. Well I will go back again to my notes on rellies. I have meant to do this for ages and now I have got down to it, I am really enjoying it. At the same time I am looking on the census and am finding out things that I'm sure were not there before. My daughter has found new information on the LDS IGI too. Have fun everyone Love June xx

Hello all, have not been around for a few days as Susan has been having a difficult time and getting very stressed. Luckily she had some strong painkillers and finally got a good nights sleep on Saturday so that on Sunday she was feeling a little better, same on Sunday night and today I took her to the hospital where the Macmillan nurse explained to her again what her treatment would be. Not nearly as drastic as she had first thought, one day a week for three weeks she will have chemo at our local hospital followed by three weeks of daily radiotherapy which will be at the Middlesex hospital in London. This will be followed by Tamoxifan tablets for at least 5 years plus frequent checks. Also she will be seeing her doctor for some medication to help with the stress. So hopefully by the summer she should be feeling much better as everything should be healed and all the nasty part over. Elisabeth, I never seem to manage more than one number on the lottery so it's good to hear of someone actually having a win. Fred, I hope your seeds don't succumb to the cold but sometimes they do better as long as they don't get frosted. What a time for your heater to pack up. June, did I read your message right - you've had snow again? We have had a few flurries but quickly followed by rain and that awful wind. It has been dry during the day for the past two days though so that's something to be thankful for. Jude, I do hope you decide to stay with us please. We would all miss your stories of Madoc and your walks plus your great sense of humour. Brenda, I can imagine how many disgruntled visitors you had in the library with no access to the computers. What a nightmare!! Hope your leg is feeling a little better now. I have met a few GC members but none on this thread but strangely enough I feel that I would recognise you all if we should meet up somewhere. Must away to my bed now - I should sleep better tonight. Sorry I know I haven't mentioned everyone but my brain is exhaused!! God bless you all Love Kathleen

Hi everyone, It looks like we are in for another sunny day, I hope that cold wind has left us. I didn't go out in it yesterday apart from putting the bins out. I did the usual dusting and hoovering then had another go at my family history but wasn't has successful as I was on Sunday. Brenda, I am only getting around to writing notes etc on my rellies because this man has forwarded me his beautifully documented notes, I felt ashamed to send him just bare facts. I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner, pity about th sausages though. Kathleen, I'm sorry Susan hasn't been feeling well. The Macmillan nurses are very good and very supportive. My next door neighbour had that treatment just before Christmas and now looks and feels well, she is now back to driving her car (short distances) but not back at work yet. It was only a flurry of snow, it didn't even cover the ground, so really the only snow we have had was Christmas Day. Brenda's John saw snow when he went through to Cleveleys but there wasn't any here so it must have more towards Manchester, that he saw it. I hope its warmer for Sylvia Well I will now go and get dressed, I have been up since 5.30, I dont know what wakened me but I could n't get back to sleep again. Love June xx

Morning all, It is a much calmer day today, the wind has finally dropped though it is still cold. I have already been out to the station, as my husband has a meeting in London today, so I dropped him off there. Kathleen - I am sure Susan will soon be feeling much better and that the Macmillan nurses will give her lots of support. I have a friend who went through the same series of treatments a while ago, and she is now looking and feeling like her old self. Much love to Susan for a quick recovery. June - I am going to put a thread up on the Tips board about a site for lots of pictures, some old, some new, of lots of places in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. I came on the computer last night, and spent ages just trawling around the villages I know. You must have a look. Hope everyone else is ok. Time for some chores now. Elisabeth xx

Morning all .Brenda [fred ,fred ,fred ,fred..[pleeeeease] Kathleen, thanks for the update on Susan,i do hope she continues to improve quickly, and hopefully ,by the summer will be a picture of health ,i still have my fingers crossed for her. Jude, stay ,stay, stay ,stay.he he [mean it though]. I checked on the price of the greenhouse heaters yesterday and had a fit.The one i need ,a blue flame ,paraseene heater costs £65 but seeing as i can almost see my seedlings shivering in the cold i think i will have to bite the bullet. At the minute the sun has come out and it looks quite promising for Sylvia ,so long as she wraps up ,and dos'nt have a biting wind like we have up here. time to take the boss shopping now ,so i will gently push her towards a garden shop to see if i can persuade her to let me have my new heater.if not it looks like making like a red indian and having a small fire in the middle of the greenhouse floor ,lol.Fred.Pyfg.&a&g&s.

Hello from a freezing manchester, very sunny today but oh so deseptive, when you got outside it was COLD. Sorry Fred ,the dog is named Rascal, did my best for Fred or Jack but was out voted.(mind you he is not my dog,so I don't count i suppose). I have always wanted a greenhouse but have never really had the room or money for one,now I don't think I would have time to tend the flowers properly. Jude could you keep in touch with one of us by email and let us know now and again how Madoc is gettin on,that is if you don't change your mind and stay.? June,John hasn't said where the snow was, but we had flurries here as well. Elisabeth ,some of my rellies appear to have come from Oxton in Nottingham ,so I would be interested in the villages, where would I find them.? Kathleen, great news about Susan, hope this news helps to take some of the stress away, that can be worse than the illness ,I think. Off for an early night as I have been on 12.30 -8pm today ,off tomorrow but at the hospital for the results of the scan on my ears ,and my dizzy spells. Take care Brenda

June Report 16 Feb 2005 08:33

Hi everyone, We have a nice sunny morning again although last night we had a hard frost. You know I am tidying up the information on some of my rellies for this gentleman in Canada, well on this particular side I have found them in each census from 1851 to 1901 inclusive, which I think proves that some areas are better transcribed than others. It makes it a lot easier when you can confirm family members on the census. It has made me all enthusiastic again. Elisabeth, Thanks for telling me about the web site with old photos on, I'm not sure if one of them is of my father, he used to own some buses. and there is one of Stoppards, who were friends of mum and dads. There is a story about Eva Stoppard, she gave her husband the same Christmas and Birthday card every year, never bought a new one. I haven't seen them all yet will just keep popping back to see more. Well Fred, did you get a heater for your greenhouse then? Brenda, We may end up related! A lot of my rellies come from the Nottingham area, and I lived 13 miles from Nottingham itself up to the age of 16, I have fond memories of going in to Nottingham with my friends shopping, and then we used to go to a restaurant and have tea and put it on my father's bill, lol Kathleen, I hope Susan has relaxed a bit more now after her chat with the nurse, you take care too. Jude, I hope you change your mind, I'll miss you and Madoc. well I had better get dressed now, Love June xx

Morning all, Quick visit before I take Mum-i-l to the eye clinic for her post op check. June, I'm pleased you liked the pictures - it is fascinating to see all those old views of villages. As you say, some of them are not really old. We even found one of the house my husband grew up in, and it is dated 1995! It's just a collection of various photos. Brenda, go to www.picturethepast.org.uk. On the lower portion of the search page there is a scroll down list of villages. Off hand, I can't remember if Oxton is there. Worth a look though. Fred, I hope you got your heater. We have a very hard frost this morning! Off now... Elisabeth x

No,poor seeds did'nt get their new heater, cor, my missus is a haaaaard woman at times, she is here ,sitting in a nice warm house ,and i get her breakfast every morning.[perhaps ,you ladies coming to the northern meet can get her in the corner ,and give Fred a bit of support He He.] I will go up my old gardens this week and see if i can pick up an old valor fire to convert,i should be able to do that again with any luck. We've had a hard frost again too,so i won't be in the garden 'till this afternoon, but it does look promising, the sun is out nd the frost is already melting..Well ,my birds are milling about on the patio ,giving me the hint that they wan't fed ,i don't know ,first the wife wants her brekkie, and now the birds[grumble mutter] i suppose i had better give in and give them their food ,poor little beggars.[i love my birds really].Fred.ptfg.&a&g&s.

Hello all, a lovely bright sunny day here in Gloucestershire, but a very hard frost this morning. Tony has gone to golf, the course opened late when it had melted a bit. I have been making Easter cards, but I am aggravated because i can't find my 'Happy Easter' peel offs, I know I saw them at Christmas but i have looked everywhere. So the cards are half made and will have to wait until i can get to Hobbycraft. have to make them all now as we are away from 1-21st march and Good friday is after the Tuesday we return. Kathleen, sorry to hear that susan has not been too good, hope that she will soon overcome the stress, maybe once the actual treatment starts she will be better, sometimes it is the anticipation that is worse. Fred, poor chilly seeds, do hope they survive. Did you find a heater to use? Elisabeth, must look at that picture site, not that i haveany relatives in the Nottingham area, but i did in Derbyshire (Belper). June, I have written biographies (potted) of my relatives back as far as Great grandparents. I have used all the information i have on censuses and certificates, plus what I know from the family. it makes good reading and does help with research. My next step is to try and get something down on the Gt Gts, using the same methods. it does expose gaps because you are studying each one closely. At the same time I am writing my own family history, using a very good boof 'Writing your Family History' as a guide. It is surprising what you can remember when you sit and think. Then, when you write something down it triggers off further thoughts. great fun and very self indulgent. Jude, how did work go yesterday? How long will you have to wait for a reply to your application? Brenda, how is the newest edition to the family? Rascal sounds a very apt name for a Jack Russell cross, they are often a bit of a handful. Sylvia is off on her travels but i hope she is enjoying herself. My daughter is in tenerife and according to someone on the General board who has just returned, the weather isn't too good there. Hope they at least get some sunshine. Take care everyone, hope I haven't missed anyone ann Glos
