Hi Derek, Do you by any chance have Repton death records for years 1833 until about 1845 ? I would love to find the record of Gilbert's wife Mary Ann Measham (nee Parker) between this dates. That would prove that he was married twice and also that Gilbert and Mary Ann were the parents of Thomas Horatio Frederick . Thats quite an impressive handle isn't it LOL.

Thanks.

Derek

Derek

Do you have access to Glossop records?

Don't worry, I don't have such knotty problems there as the Needhams of Tideswell!

Hi Derek, well, it is actually a burial I am looking for. James Stokes, died between 1848 and 1851, I assume in Glossop. I won't go through the whole sorry tale, I will leave it at that. His father was William Stokes, his widow was Elizabeth (Betty) and he would have been about 30 or younger when he died.

Being even more exciting, I might have a C of E priest in the family. One William Goddard, born about 1706 in Glossop. supposedly son of John Goddard, per the Glossop Parish Church Website (All Saints). He was educated at Oxford, and returned to Glossop as priest of Glossop Parish Church from 1728 to I am not sure what. I tried Crockfords Directory but their records do not go back that far, and they told me to try Matlock.

He supposedly married Elizabeth Grogat. My relative is their son Joseph born 1742, who married Sarah and they had a daughter Betty, born about 1765 who married John Ratcliffe. They in turn had a daughter Betty junior born 26 May 1804.

I am now seeing the value of what you do, i.e. visiting the records office almost weekly to look up one or two things. In contrast with my mega list of 100 relatives to find in half a day. Not possible eh?

I am aware that I am dominating your threat and there are lots of other people who need your help and who live miles away, so leave me till the end. I will get to Matlock again in a better and more organised frame of mind.

Thanks for everything

Margaret

Derek,

I would be so pleased if you could find a baptism for the following:

John (H) Pear or Pare or Wain. On 1881 census he is shown as born Alfreton c. 1870 and is living in Shirland.

(In 1908 he married under the name of John Wain, stated age 36, showing Jacob Wain as his father. I believe his mother is Sarah Pare or Pear.)

Thanks very much.

Elisabeth

Hi Derek,
My 3x Gt grandfather is persistant on the census's back till 1861 that he was born in Derby, Derbyshire.
His name is John Randall/Randle b1835 and was a boatman, he married a girl in Dudley in 1856 and his father was Richard Randle on the marriage cert.
I would be very grateful if you get a chance to have a look and put my mind at rest, i have been searching on and off for him for years!
Many many thanks,
Jaine

Hi Sadie...I'm sorry that you have not been getting any replies..lack of courtesy I'm guessing......Unfortunately anyone born in 1925 will neither be on any Census nor on any published Parish Records.
The only real chance is with your local Birth.Marriages and Deaths registers. Commonly known as BMD's.
You can try FreeBMD which free online.

Sorry..good luck.
