Hello Kay..sorry about the delay in getting back to you..I ws looking for you on my other Thread...now I've found you i can get on with some work for you.

EDIT 14.32.............first impressions are that it looks quite simple.......I have what appears to be an unbroken line from JOHN GRETTRIX 23.09.1710..son of ADAM b 26.02.1675 and Ann...............John Grettrix/Greatorix marries ELIZABETH ELLISON 14.07.1730..and their son Joseph is baptised 01.04.1737.....brother of John 1741 ...etc etc.....but of course I need to collate it all properly..and get back to you..

Derek.

Hi Derek hoping you can help with the Greatorexes of Alvaston. Nearly every tree out there in Ancestry, Family Search etc lets me trace my ancestors back to the 1650s. I would love it to be true as I was brought up there too but I think there is a 'break in the chain'...or maybe everyone else has some info I don't.
I can trace back with reasonable certainty as follows: (all Greatorexes born Alvaston)
Susannah Greatorex b1846 child of
Henry Greatorex b1821 m. Sarah Rushton & child of
Joseph Greatorex b 1795 m. Hannah Daniel &child of
John Greatorex b1741m. Ann Wakefield
then pedigrees always give John's parents (and his brothers Joseph & Thomas) as Joseph Greatorex b. 1710 m. Elizabeth Ellison.
However, the only christening records I can find for Alvaston show a John Grettrix ch. 14 March 1741, father Joseph G. but mother MARY. Ditto for Thomas Grettrix ch. 2 Oct 1739.
Thanks Derek.

Hi Derek, Am I in the right place this time? You told me to find your thread and I hope this is it.
I am looking for the marriage of Eliza Bunting born in Dore or Totley to William Barlow born in Flixton Lancs.
It must be around 1830 as their son William was born in 1832. She died in 1850 I think and he died in the Ecclesall area in 1851.
I think she might have been born at Fanshawe gate as there is a record of the same name for there but I am stuck on the marriage. As their children were born around there I cannot think that they married elsewhere. I would be very grateful if you can help me. Regards Rita

Hi Derek

Hope you are still around..

Just wondering if the parents of a William Wragg born 1797 in Heath Derbyshire was something that you 'could' dig up so to speak.

Thanks in advance

Hi margaret..I meant that Jeremiah was alive and kicking with family on the 1891 census.....I think I looked and failed to find the burial on one of my original searches at matlock for you...........which is not to say it wasn't there!!....lol

I don't know whether there is any relationship between your Joseph Wood..and one JOHN WOOD of Glossop 1784-1854...but was perusing the meetings of the Glossop and District History Society..and noticed that Mary findlay and Owen Russell gave a talk on the Family and descendents of that John Wood....(this was september 30th 2011)........might be interesting if Joseph was in there somewhere...

Hi Derek

What I really want is a burial for Mary Wood. I am sure it would be at All Saints, Old Glossop. I know she lived in Padfield, but all her connections were with All Saints. Does Matlock have the records for this church, and if so I will go and wade throught them to find her burial.

You say that Jeremiah had children as late as 1891. That is an eye-opener for me. He died in 1891. His wife Ellen Nisbett was aged 65 by then - not likely of childbearing age. Their children were born between 1851 and 1866 according to me, the youngest being Hannah, 6 Sept 1866, who is the focus of my family tree. I don't think he had any more children.

You are right in all the other children and ancestors. Nope, no evidence that Mary married Robert Crossland, but I believe he was Jeremiah's father anyway. Robert was just not the marrying kind it seems.

Padfield is 3-4 miles from All Saints Church, but I know that the Church was a significant one - even St George's Church New Mills (8 miles away) was a sub-church of All Saints, Old Glossop. All Saints reigned supreme, it seems.

You are right, I will get the death cert of Mary.

Ta.

Love

Margaret
