Thanks once again Michelle, you've moved my tree on leaps and bounds today.

I've got George Bowler on the 1881 as born at London, Essex, England and on the 1891 as born at London Bow.

Like you say i'll probably need to get his marriage cert to confirm which one it is.

Hope to be in touch soon
best regards
dave

Tricky one!!I have been looking for them on the 1841 and i hate to say this but i think this maybe Lucy and her children in another house. She could be living there?visiting?and the bad news is i can't say for certain it's her because most of the census image gives initials for householders!!i hate these 1's!!!!Dates and initials look good though and i am uncertain as yet whether the Alston's are mistranscribed...need to look at this further

Hi Michelle

I've got a relation Bridget McSorley who on the 1841 was living at Jacksons Row, Wigan Lane, Wigan with her husband Hugh, 4 kids and 2 lodgers.

I have a record of her death between [AMJ] 1951, but cannot find her on the 1851 census. I know thw census was taken 31st March 1851 so she should be recorded somewhere. Her husband Hugh died in 1850 for the record and her son Thomas was my GG grandfather.

I'm trying to establish if she was born in England or Ireland, could you check your 1851 for me as you always seem to get better results.

thanks

Been looking nothing so far....on the 1911 were both parents still alive?I will keep looking for you and come back to yours after i have done a couple of others.

Their is also the poss that they were on holiday,or they were 1901 strays...left off the census records?-although i have looked at a couple of sites on this option.

David

Bridget's death was registered in June and like you say the census was taken March 30th.I am a little unsure re death records but i know re birth records quite often these were registered a few weeks after birth sometimes a few months!I noticed 1 daughter in a workhouse and a son as a servant and that was the youngest son so i would say she was dead late March or dying and in a hospital for the poor and not all of these can be found on the census records.Remember this is still early days of registration which began in 1837 and although these days deaths are registered within 5 days things were very different then.Have you thought about sending for the death cert?

Also something to bear in mind some of the 1851 census records for some areas of Lancashire were water damaged.Wigan is not 1 but Bridget may have been visting that night in an area where records were damaged.

Shemp

Hi Shemp do you have the district Annie was born in please?i should imagine the s on the Annes on the wedding record will be a transcript error and she is was either Annie or Anne on earlier records. As there are choices and not just 1 Annie-Anne Kemp i could really do with district of birth as well as County.
Do you have any of her children's names and places of birth? So i can look for her under Smith...quite a few John and Ann-Annie-Anne Smith couples on the records.

Thanks
Michelle

Hi Michelle, I have given up waiting for a reply from my contact re the last family I was following and which you so kindly helped me with, and have decided to move on.

Today I received a marriage certificate for OH's great grandparents. I have checked the 1881 to no effect so I am turning to you for census help once again.

If possible could you check the 1861/71 census for:

ELLEN LAVELL born c1857 in Liverpool as far as I know. Her father's name on the cert is Thomas Lavell a labourer. On the cert the address is 28 Rutter Street, Liverpool.

I have what I think is her birth Mar Q 1858 on freebmd in Liverpool.

Many thanks. ps. I am having some probs with my ISP and getting on the net is very hit and miss. Please forgive me if there is a delay in thanking you!!

Hi Michelle

Thanks for trying with Bridget McSorley.

Linking to that i'm having trouble finding her stepson my GG grandfather Thomas McSorley [1827-1871] on the 1851 census.

I've been told that his younger stepbrother Henry McSorley c:1838 was registered working as a servant on a 17 acre farm in Wrightington, Lancashire for a Joseph Oliverson [age 45] and his wife Elizabeth [age 49], but again I can't seem to find the record.

In 1861 he was living in Bolton at 9 Bens Court with his wife and kids, but for some reason all the family were listed as Marsh.

Hope you can help me out.

regards

Hi Michelle,
I am looking the Evans family in 1851 in particular the parents Joseph and Ann and their daughter Julia. In 1841 they were living in Bedminster. Joseph (1801) was a farmer, Ann (1806), William (1824), Ann (1826), Louisa (1829) Mary (1831), Sarah (1833), harriet (1835) and Julia (1837). All were born in Bedminster except Ann (mother) who was born in Barrow (Gurney) Somerset.
Louisa married William Lodge in 1846 and in 1851 was in Reading. Julia married Thomas Long in 1859 and her father was deceased then. in 1861 Ann a widow was living in Bristol with William her son?? aged 13. I have Ann and Julia in every census until their deaths.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Susan.
