I think our messages crossed, I used to work there :-) I was there when the hippy invasion was only just beginning, about 1976-1980. Lovely area, and very nice people. |

You may guess from my 'name' I am definitely a Yorkshire lass - born & bred so to speak. Just wish some of the ancestors had stayed in one place - would have made things a lot easier!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to worry! cheers Sue |

Hi Sue, On my mums side they came from Ireland, and lived in Holbeck area of Leeds. As soon as I got to first generation of Irish I started having problems (no way of tracing them - as yet). Good luck tho with your searches. LL |

Not got to Ireland on my side yet - although Dad said he was from Irish/Spanish stock. (not found anyone from Spain either come to that!) Most branches on hubby's side lead to Ireland and stop! LOL Sue |

I think this thread is great, I have been to a lot of places mentioned. Have any of you heard of Jump? Yes it does exist, my husband was born there. It is so many miles (can't remember the number - OH has told me) from Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham. By the way he took me to prove it. |

Hi Granny Carr, Glad you like my thread. I was going to delete it as I thought it had ran its course and didn't want to bore people with it. I will keep it going whilever people are wanting to use it. I cant say I have heard of Jump, You have me on that one. Now thats one for me to remember to look up on a map. LL |

Valium, My dad was born in Pontefract. Funny thing is I always assumed he was born in Leeds and it wasn't until I sent to Leeds for his Birth cert that I found out. LL |

Hi LL I was born and raised just north of Wakefield. Nice to see there's more Wakey folk on this site. I've lived in Oz for 24 years now but will always be a Yorkshire lass at heart. I've still got the accent too. Lesley :-) |

Just thought I would nudge this up with a little more info about me and the rellies... As I said before I was born in Horbury, Nr. Wakefield... My rellies originally came from Pontefract area, Womersley, Knottingley, Whitley Bridge, Criddling Stubbs... and then one of them settled in Alverthorpe in Wakefield. They must have moved between 1909 and 1918 to Ossett where one of my uncles was born, so I have to wait for the 1911 census to come out before I can get that information. My father was living in Pickersgill Street in Ossett when he met and married my mother and they lived in Prospect Street in Horbury for the first few years... that house is still there..I was born there. Between 1946 and 1950 they moved to 'The Avenues' in Horbury. My two main ancestral lines are FRANCE and WALMSLEY... Anne :))) |

Hi Linda Sheffield has changed big time - don't know whether to say better or worse! lol Don't go to town much as I prefer Meadowhall to be honest - only go into town for a drink. I'm Sheffield born and bred and still there - moved around a bit and now live closer to Barnsley than Sheffield town centre, originally from Hillsbrough and do miss living there as it was so central for everything Joanne |
