You really MUST watch the opening ceremony. I was at the rehearsals last night, and it was truly a magnificent, on the night it will be spectacular, there's something for everyone, the young, the old and those in between, it's musically beautiful, and it caters for all tastes.

We were asked to "save the secret" and not give details of what's happening, as not to spoil the surprises, and I think it's a shame if anyone does.

So, if you don't want to miss a breathtaking event, watch it :-D

I'm quite happy to watching the opening ceremony Linda, it is the rest of it that I will give a miss. No doubt the OH will hardly miss anything.LOLOL

Same as Julia...will watch the opening and closing ceremonies but very little of what's in between. Actually looking forward to the opening ceremony..if it's anything like as good as the Jubilee special effects I'm sure it'll do us all proud x

BBC scheduling starts at 1900, BUT apparently the Ceremony doesn't start until 2100 - so don't bother switching on until then if you want to avoid the waffle.

If Lynda has inside information for the *timings* which is different to the above, please do say. You probably wouldn't be breaking any confidential agreement with that additional info!

Muffyxx Report 24 Jul 2012 08:57

Ta for that DET....I don't want to watch all the fluff before it... just the ceremony itself... so I'll not rush to be ready at 7 if I have to watch 2 hrs of waffle lol x

Julia Report 24 Jul 2012 08:58

Who, I ask, is paying for those that are going to be doing the 2 hours of waffeling before the actual event. Is it coming out of my licence money.
Only person that has deserved it this year, in my opinion, was Gary Barlow and his programme about how the Jubilee song was made.

PS. Not that I am particularly a Gary Barlow fan, but the programme was superb.

The preview summary says (quote)

1900 - Countdown to the Opening Ceremony with Sue Barker and the BBC Team...... joined by some of the biggest names in sport

2100 - Coverage of the opening ceremony which officially starts at 9pm.....etc

Added - the scheduling finishes at 0030, which probably allows for over run and more waffle.

Julia

Julia Report 24 Jul 2012 09:11

Hasn't Sue Barker made enough money from blowing up Mr. Go Compare.???LOLOL

The BBC have a history of dropping female presenters when they start to get wrinkly.....but that's totally off topic :-D

~Lynda~ Report 24 Jul 2012 09:19

There's a big "thing" at 8.12 p.m, as in 20.12.

Friday morning there are bells ringing all over Britain, that's at 8.12 a.m, that'll be for 3 minutes, that should sound beautiful.

I don't think there will be any" waffling" beforehand, I'm hoping it will be just "bigging up" Britain, and all the good things that we are great at.

As for who's paying for things, there is massive sponsorship, from different companies, so much so, that you can only use a Visa debit/credit card, within the Olympic parks, not that I agree with that, but apparently Visa are massive sponsors, so a lot of the cost, is being met by sponsors.

There are things that maybe aren't how we'd like them, but nothing is going to change now, so I'm going to just go with the flow, and enjoy every minute. :-)

I start working, as an Ambassador on the 1st August, by that time I'm hoping that all the problems are ironed out, and people I meet are pleasant :-D

Edit to say.... You can use cash in the park, but can only use visa cards

Can you encourage the BEEB to show more of the skill sports,

rather than the stamina ones? such as Archery, and Shooting?

~Lynda~

With you all the way on this ! Will watch the opening ceremony and will be cheering on Team G.B throughout the Games.

Well done you for volunteering and hope your days as an ambassador go smoothly.

Jo :-)

~Lynda~ Report 24 Jul 2012 09:31

Will have a word Bob, but I'm sure there will be at least some of the archery & shooting shown on t.v, it was in Beijing, and not to forget that there will lots of events going on at the same time, they can't, sadly show everything.

Thanks Jo, I'm really looking forward to it, I love London, will love showing it off, in all it's glory, and telling the world, what a great place it is, to spend there money, and hope it helps to get the economy going to how we deserve it to :-)

Although my feelings are known, I too hope you enjoy your Ambassadorship - and yes, any problems should have been ironed out by August.

Let's re-phrase 'waffle' to 'An interesting 2 hour discussion of the History of the Olympics, previous medal winners, and the expected achievments of entering teams. Special attention will be given to the selection and form for members of Team GB'

:-D

I am looking forward to everything :-) :-) :-)

I enjoy theatre/live performance.

Am also a fan of athletics, gymannastics, football and anything else that comes my way.

Lots of special tv channels devoted to the Olympics, so should be able to watch archery, shooting etc.
A great chance to see some minority (in this country) sports.

Thanks Lynda, for tipping us off.

Hope everyone enjoys London 2012.

Come on Team GB :-D :-D :-D

~Lynda~ Report 24 Jul 2012 13:56

Tess, I'd liken the opening ceremony to the theatre, I love the theatre too, in fact I like most things, perhaps that's why I'm never bored :-)

The Olympics are a great way to see some of the minority sports, but with my sporting lust, I don't know how many more I can watch :-D
