Rita Report 28 Jul 2012 16:34

I didnt like the begining of it at all so much flashing and coming and going you cannot tell me you could follow that.it was like being on an express train, rushing through stations.
I found it very confusing and dull. it was towards the end I enjoyed most.

I was surprised that the little deaf children sang God save the King and not Queen. Maybe the teacher forgot.?

I did expect something different to that, I suppose they will give him a knighthood for that

Guinevere Report 28 Jul 2012 16:59

I found it fairly easy to follow - it was edited highlights of the nicer bits of our history. I thought there were too many close ups, and not enough "overview" though. I enjoyed the conjoined rings created in the "furnaces" which I thought worked well.

The children sang God save the Queen to my ears, Rita.
Does anyone else think they sang King?

However, I still think a lot of it was a waste of money that could have gone to better causes. The olympic overspend meant that they looted funding intended for community arts.

I wish the singing and music hadn't been mimed, that spoilt it a little for me. Although maybe it would have been better if Sir Paul had prerecorded his bit.

I loved that children were involved and that it was a lot less regimented and formal than Beijing.

Just wish it was all over now and we could discuss the closing ceremony, ;-) And the news programmes could go back to real news.

i'll be saying what the 'eck for a fortnight Lolly :-D

Will be cheering your Niece on tonight, Spruce, you must be so very, very proud of her, fantastic to have family actually in the Olympics, and in your Country :-)

Rita I tooheard Queen, sure they wouldn't of made a mistake, otherwise it'd be all over the papers, they love it when things go wrong :-)

Gwynne, the news channels are on all day still :-)

Has anybody else had trouble choosing what to watch, I seem to be constantly changing channels, wonderful to have a choice of every event, looks like I'll be following even more sports after the Olympics :-D

Foggy Report 28 Jul 2012 18:16

I watched it and thought it was really good.
The performers did a wonderful job and praise should be given.
I think the only thing I did not like was Paul mac and I think it was the Artic monkeys, but apart from them it was great.
After all, could any of us do better.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Jul 2012 18:18

Yes there are news channels still operating, but at 8am when I tried to watch them, the only news they were discussing was the Olympics. Still the same after 15 minutes :-0

Anyways, Lynda will be pleased to hear that OH now wants to look around the Park, not to see an event, just the Park...except we can't work out

a) Do you have to buy tickets
b) How to get tickets
c) If yes to b, are there tickets left on ANY dates?

Rita

Rita Report 28 Jul 2012 18:34

sorry if I made a mistake but I was sure they sang God save the King and towards the ends they said may she rein over us. which I thought was funny.when they sang God save the King.?

sorry if I heard wrong. but I was sure that was what they sang.

Lynda
I'm like you spoiled for choice but I'm watching some sports that I wouldn't otherwise watch.
I thoroughly enjoyed the opening ceremony and all credit must go to Danny Boyle for having such vision.
I was just miffed that I wasn't there in person to soak up what must have been a fantastic atmosphere.
I'm really looking forward to my visit next week to see the Athletics.
Von
Edit There's a nail biting tennis match on at present

BrianW Report 28 Jul 2012 19:47

Just happened to look at the tennis, A GB palyer is on court and half the seats seem to be empty.

What on Earth went wrong with the ticket sales and allocations?

Seems to have been a shambles right from the beginning !

~Lynda~ Report 28 Jul 2012 20:39

Det I'm am pleased to hear that :-D This is where to get tickets, if there are any left......

http://www.tickets.london2012.com/

But if you can't get ny while the Olympics are on you'll be able to go after to have a look I'm sure:-D

Rita, don't worry about it :-)

Hope you enjoy the athletics Von, I've just been asked if I can do any more Ambassador-ing the week after next, if they need it, I've said I can, and aked if they did need me, I'd like the Park, athletics will be on then too :-)

It's a shame there are seats empty Brian, no idea why that is, I thought that the army were having any empty seats, maybe they don't want them? I'll ask why when I can :-)

George Report 28 Jul 2012 21:11

Yep, watched it, didn't the kids have a cracking time :-D :-D :-D
I thought it was really well put together, a little slow at times, but good.
Not bothered about the Olympics, but thought the opening show was good.
A lot of hard work for all the people who were acting in it :-D :-D :-D

George :-) :-)

~Lynda~ Report 28 Jul 2012 21:25

That's the best thing to do when you don't like something Ronald, I'm with you on that :-)
I've just read something on the internet, where someone moaned about everything they saw at the opening, then moaned about all the sports that they've watched which were useless, they must of wasted 10 hours watching things they dislike, and I expect they'll do that for a fortnight, how daft , when all they have to do s turn the tv off:-D

Thought the kids were great too George, what a lovely memory for them too. Imagine having that on film to show your children & grandchildren. I went for two auditions, for the opening ceremony, but didn't get through can't dance :-) If you got in you had to be really committed. They should all be very proud of themselves :-)

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 29 Jul 2012 00:09

Thank you Lynda - we'd tried the link earlier, but even showing all events inc those full, it only went up to next Friday.

The report on tonight's news said that Loci or what ever they are called, thought the empty seats were those assigned to sponsors and were going to find out quickly why they weren't used. A real shame if there were sports fans who would have liked to have purchased them.

I missed the opening ceremony live, because it began at about 5am

So I stayed up half the night to watch the replay. Started at midnight, and I watched it until Paul McCartney came on. Went to bed some time after 3am, so I'm a Zombie today.

Loved the music bit, with the house in the middle.

I think they did a great job, everyone looked like they were enjoying it.

Who got the job of picking up the squillions of bits of confetti? :-D

Ashamed to admit I spent about 4 hrs watching the cycling lol. OH told me it was a near guaranteed gold so I sat there waiting......no gold but hey ho......lol.

Enjoyed it though much to my surprise...May even watch the women's race later now x

Rita Report 29 Jul 2012 08:52

I am not surprised there were tickets over. lets be honest it was a bit of a shambles when they went on sale.. many of the Radio programes have been having competiitions to win some. I suppose that is one way of getting rid of the tickets.?

shame they could not have given the spare tickets left over to some of the lads who were injured in Afganistan instead of seeing many empty seats.

~Lynda~

~Lynda~ Report 29 Jul 2012 09:15

Det, I'm hoping that something will be done asap about the empty seats, apparently it's either corporates that aren't turning up, shame on them, or tickets allocated to other athletes/coaches to come and go, whatever it is they need to sort it . I'll see if I can find out any more re the park tickets, if I do I'll let you know :-)

Scozz, pleased you enjoyed it, you did the right thing turning Macca off, he was awful, with all the British talent there is , no idea why they chose him, or the song, I'd of done better, and I can't sing, bit like Macca really :-)

Rita, last year when I went to training, I was told that there would probably be seats available on the day, looks like that may happen, hope so, I don't think tickets need to be got rid of, there are thousands of us who'd buy them, it's seems like it's a blunder, that I HOPE gets un-blundered very quickly.

Muffy, don't be ashamed, you could become a sports addict, not a bad thing :-) I watched t.v form 9 a.m - midnight ! I now have other sports to add to my ever growing "quite like that, will watch some more" list., enjoyed the archery, basketball, even the volleyball, loved the men's gymnastics. looks like there could be a gold there, said crossing fingers :-)

We were trying to get out today, but swimming is on, and I love swimming, I swam for London a few times, and had a private coach, who was an Olympic medallist, but all those years ago, I didn't have the commitment to work as hard as you need to, to take it further, silly girl I was :-)

I really cannot believe that all the sports on, are on the t.v live, it's fantastic, great for the minority sports, and it's followers :-)

Good luck to Spruce's niece, I think it's this morning she swims :-D

Off to watch........... everything :-D

Corporate seats are sold off at Wimbledon if they aren't taken by a said.

Maybe a similar system could be introduced at the Olympics.

Go Team GB :-D
