Hubby still plodding on with the tiling of the bathroom, 2 walls done now ,but one not grouted.
Just the shower unit and the mirror unit to be delivered !

Morning folks~~

Forecast is supposed to be cloudy with sunny spells.
Well I should have gone to specsavers !!! or the forecasters back to met school for retraining ! all I can see is a very grey sky and we've already had 2 torrential bouts or rain ! It's not too cold tho.

Second day in a row I've done a bit of retail therapy.. it was the funeral yesterday that has brought me down :(

I thought I'd eventually managed to control it at funerals, been to 3 in the last few weeks, but yesterdays was so moving a service, the suddenness of Desiree's death and she and Ernie (widower ) were so kind and helpful to us over the yrs, they were like aunt and uncle to us.
But I totally lost it when they played a song that Ernie chose, a modern song I know he loved and so meaningful to Desiree.

Thanks Paula:)

You'd think at my age I'd be able to hold it together, having lost so many close relatives.
I had to outwardly for dad when mum died in 1991( not in private tho ) and same when dad died in 2004, perhaps that's why i find it more difficult now.
No it's 4 funerals not 3, 2 of whom were my age and friends and ex colleagues.
We had been forecast fine weather, but it has been lashing down with rain here.
Dau not a happy bunny, she feels she is being put on at work , having to teach peeps earning heck of a lot more than her the job she went for and was given to a foreigner, who knows nothing about it, but dau had covered the job and knew it inside out.. PC and supposed fairness given over experience ! Then her optician messed up her glasses and contact lense script, but wants her to wait for 4 weeks trying new contacts which are more comfortable but she can't see thro ! She's giving it a week and going back!!! Then she smashed the wing mirror on her new car, she's not the best at reversing, but even hubby says it's a dreadful car park at work and he an extremely safe confident driver, who can park..reverse anywhere :) Grizzle over....

Off to watch Emmerdale, missed a bit of it.lol

Yes I'd love to see a photo of Lois.. now you've managed to get one of her :))
I'll pm you:)

Good morning ladies~~~~

From a sunny South Wales, lovely blue sky but a bit nippy !!.
Cars were all frosted up this morning, dau came back to ask if we had a spare scraper to remove the frost from her car, we do when when I told her it was probably in the shed she shuddered..she won't go in there in case of spiders.lol.. She has heated front and rear windows !!, just as I was about to go and find one she came back again to say they had cleared:)

We part ex'd my car for her's, too costly to have 4 cars in the family !!
I don't need one all the time now I've finished work.
Must think of the carbon footprint, and it's healthier to do more walking.!!

Must go in the shed and dig out the emergency box I always had in my car,.. It contained 2 spare scraper's, one was always in the door of the car and another in the house, a collapsible lightweight shovel for use in the snow ( my thoughtful dad bought it for me and it has had many uses .lol )
a blanket and and emergency first aid box. She'll need a new blanket and a refill on the first aid box. Oh and roll up florescent sign, which say's 'Call the Police'.. a cast off from the days before mobile phones, when my job involved visit employers. Very useful for a woman on their own but I don't suppose she'll want that !!

Sounds as if Lois is settling in well, you calling her a minx Paula, she's a beautie:)
Gizzmo sound a real character Maz, following you to work and then playing in the garden centre til you come home:)

It's very cold again today although the sun is bright and the sky is blue.It was frosty this morning here too.
Ava is singing songs to me,Molly is snoring and Lois is crying because I have put her in her cage for a nap and some peace for the rest of us!!
Ironing is done, todays washing almost dry.Think I will do birds eye simply fish and oven chips and mushy peas for tea, nice and easy lol
After years of asking my cousin if she had any photos of my paternal grandparents she says she has found one of my NANA Green.I never knew my grandparents as they all died before I was born( Nana Green died when I was 11 months old but obviously I have no memory of her)
I am now waiting for her husband to send me a copy of the photo...

*$parkling $andie* Report 20 Oct 2010 16:31

Paula ~~

I hope your cousins hubby comes up with goods :)
It's such a shame for what ever reason you don't get to know your g,parents

Mum and dad were late having me, so I never knew my paternal grandfather and maternal Nan (but all my elder cousins knew them both ).
My only surviving aunt tells me that they were both the most loving ,caring and thoughtful of all my grandparents, not that the others weren't.
Mum , dad and aunt all lived in the same village so she knew dad's parents.

I was 5 when mum.s dad died and I do remember him, he had a huge house and and I mean huge, his sons and dau 's all except my mum lived there with their families when they married, my eldest cousin is over 20yrs older than me.
So they all remember both their g'parents with great affection.
Dad's mother died when I was 16, she owned 2 houses next door to each other, dad lived in one and nan lived in the other with her dau and their family and in her later yrs after a falling out with her dau nan came to live with us,our house was altered so she had a granny flat.. her choice a very independent lady ! Postmistress of the village for yrs .
There's me rattling on again .lol

Must go and do tea.~~~~

*$parkling $andie* Report 21 Oct 2010 16:43

Hi Ladies~~~

Oh thanks Paula for your kind words.
I often feel I'm rattling on and boring peeps, but on the right topic I can talk for Wales.lol
I also love reading other peeps posts about families, it's good to share both happy and sad events that have occurred in your life.

Well here I go again.. Part 2 ..why nan(dad's mum) fell out with her dau.

Nan was a no nonsense lady and ran her village post office perhaps a bit too officious ( according to my mum's sister) and could appear to be quite stern. Trait followed thro to my dad, sister and myself (perhaps not so severe as nan.lol, but none of us are walkovers ! )
As a family nan, hubby and children lived a few different houses in the village eventually ending up in what they called Jubilee House quite a big house by the village standards at that time, but having a good job nan had taken out mortgages(. I had all the deeds and mortgage details before we sold the house, it was very interesting reading , I only wish I'd photocopied them )
When dad and my aunt got married , Aunt stayed with nan and dad and mum moved to the house next door, that nan had bought .
Eventually when nan retired as postmistress my aunt took over as postmistress, she was also nursing.
Unfortunately aunt's hubby had a gambling prob, and dipped his hand in the till. Nan sussed this and warned my aunt that's when she came to live with us.
So I've found out later, don't know if dad ever knew, aunt was borrowing from a local butcher to make up the deficit in her takings.
A spot check from the PO found her takings to be out before she could replace them and she was taken to court. Dad was the Postmaster in a nearby town at the time and offered to support her in court, which she refused. She got off with it .. don't know if she was fined, probably was !
She never spoke to Dad or nan after then !
My nan changed her will so that whilst auntcould live in the house for her lifetime, it would be then left to her grandchildren after her death.
Uncle must have had mental probs, cos he burnt his dau's veil on the eve of her wedding !
When my aunt died my sister and I decided to let the nutty uncle stay in the house for his life time, we could have forced a sale at that time but choose not to.
He did prove to have probs as he tried to electrocute himself in the house, failed , then went missing and was found in a shed a few days later in the village.
What a dysfunctional side of my family !! ..just the one, the uncle who married into it !
To be continued :)) not much more but I must do tea

Maz ~~
Hope you have a good time with your mum :))

*$parkling $andie* Report 21 Oct 2010 21:38

Part 3..lol
I'll correct the last statement, because of his actions in later yrs we didn't consider him as family ! more of an irritation and embarrassment.
Most of the the peeps in village saw thro him too !
When aunt died altho she and dad hadn't spoken for yrs.. and they still lived next door to one another ! , dad wanted to go to her funeral as there was no malice on his side ,do I took him., we weren't welcomed, but dad knew he'd paid his respect to his sister.
Yrs later after dad died my sister contacted our cousin thro Friends Reunited, neither of us had spoken to her since leaving school, when cousin moved away.
My sister who now lives in America invited her family to stay with them whilst my cousin was visiting the US.
They stayed with my sister for 3 days and they reminisced about the past, and my cousin explained how much a problem her father had been over the years to her and her mother and blamed the family breakdown on her father.
Wish that it had been admitted to my nan before her death, she and my dad would have made up,which was what he always wanted, but I suppose my aunt was standing by her man thro thick and thin !
They say you can pick your friends, but not your relatives.

Here endeth the epilogue.......

Skeletons in the cupboard eh !, I suppose it's mild to what some peeps have....

thanks for sharing that $andie. As you say we all have a story to tell but when you are living it, you just get on with things as best you can lol
Ava is much better. After a week of hardly eating a thing, today she started with a bowl of porridge when she got here, an hour later it was a cup of hot chocolate and a lemon cake. Later it was a dairylea dunker, closely followed by a bag of cheesy wotsits and now she wants to know what's for lunch....
