Morning Daff, Well it's getting lightish outside now, so I guess I've managed to stay up all night!!
My bodies awake with all the tea I've drunk, but the old grey matter is in an alternative universe, with all the t.v. I've watched.LOL
Well, I'll do my best to pop back on later, thats if my eyelids are still working.

Morning all... the weather here is dull, but dry... and the sun is trying to break through. Hunky L has brought someone in to help him today... and he has brought with him a very friendly Jack Russell terrier.... lol.... dog heaven here, with all those cats and also the squirrels to chase..... Jethro, of course, wants to be friends.... stoopid boy!!!

Aw poor BC.... you had a bad day yesterday, didn't you? What a shame about the jacket!! And about MU... although that is pure selfishness as R is a MU fan, and son 2 is a fanatic!! He will be unbearable for another week or so.... I don't phone him for a while if they lose, he takes it personally, lolol!!!

Maz, that isn't like you.... are you ok?

Taff, I thought of you at 3 am..... I was awake, blinkin owls were on the hunt!!! They do make a lot of noise... and Mrs Tiddlywinks was out, snuffling and grunting... no sign of Mr or Miss though.... I shall have to keep an eye open for them! Good luck for today... at least you get to sleep now!!

Well.... I must go and buy some sugar......... almost out, and this chap takes it in his tea!! Can't have him flagging due to lack of glucose, now, can we? lol!!

Love

I just hope that all the fruit trees and plants produce as much fruit as they are promising at the mo!

AnninGlos Report 28 May 2009 16:32

Hi Daff,
Found out more about 'my' house from another web site. Seems to have been built in the early 18th century by an Irishman by the name of Bernard Walsh, or Bernardo Valois as he was known here. He was a militant catholic who came from Waterford, one of his daughters called Margaret married Juan Cologan. who was from Dublin. An excerpt from his biography says:

Bernard Walsh showed great self confidence, took difficult decisions bravely and that his ambition allowed him to live a cosmopolitan and luxurious life, like most successful foreign merchants in the Canary Islands.  His houses in Puerto de la Cruz were magnificent and tastefully styled on Canary architecture, with balconies, landings and huge internal patios.  The house he built on his estate at La Paz, overlooking the Martiánez Bay, reflected and still does to this day, very high living standards.  It was surrounded by vineyards and cereal crops and barns and even a windmill embellished the view towards Mount Teide.  The house still belongs to Bernard Walsh’s Spanish descendents but it is now surrounded by apartments, hotels, shops and villas, many of which are also owned by his descendents.  The decoration within Bernard Walsh’s houses reflected his Irish roots, taste and culture, with elegant furniture, London mirrors, mahogany desks, fine China ornaments and marble tables.

Thought you would like to see this follow up.

Hi Daff and all!

boy it's blooming muggy! I dont like this sort of heat - BUT I hate the rain and cold more!

Hope the garden is progressing according to plan - plenty tea and coffee for workmen is bound to ensure that it's finished on time! Cant wait to hear what the end results look like.

Ann in Glos: sounds like the latin equivalent of "Dunroamin" was about right then??? or in the words of the song "wherever I lay my hat, that's my home".

Always nice to get some closure on things, isnt it?

I'm giggling at the name of his son in law - JUAN COLOGAN - a typical Irish name, t'be sure, t'b sure))))) Doubtless BC will be able to tell us if Juan is a typical irish name for a boy)))) I guess maybe the Spanish Armada might have something to do with spanish named irish folk!

Bi for now all - take care!

Jac, I had not realised but apparently there were quite a few Irish emigrants to Tenerife, I guess Juan's parents were the Irish ones who came here. I have to say I have found it fascinating and informative.

Jac

Jac Report 28 May 2009 22:59

Hi Ann = well it says in the speil that Juan was from Dublin!! so I took that to mean that his parentage probably came down from spanish sailors shipwrecked at the time of the Armada!

I do so like a mystery!

Morning Daff, and All~~~,
Well I had fun yesterday!..not! All that just to monitor my brain waves when I'me falling asleep. Then the nice Lady thought she'd wake me up to a flashing strobe light! That didnt go down to well, let me tell you! I,me to old now to playing "guinea pig". So they can go whistle if they have any more tests for epilepsy!!
Well, it looks like its going to be a scorcher here, So you make sure you,ve got plenty of sunscreen on, cos I dare say you'll be in the garden!LOL.

Ann Glos, What an interesting story behind that house!! Love the Name though!
The meet in Liverpool looks like its going to have great weather, lets hope ours will be the same?

I now have 2/3 of a screen working in odd colours, so I'me guessing whats on the right side LOL, (lucky I know this site so well, cos I'me just pointing the cursor, and seeing what comes up!)LOL.
Love as always.

Morning Taff

Have had those tests done - many years ago, not nice is it, hate all the probes stuck to me head and as you say the strobe light is unpleasant , especially if you react to it.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy some 30 years ago.

Take care

Good Morning Daff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hope you have a good day, excellent day for pottering in the garden :))

ButtercupFields Report 29 May 2009 08:21

Morning Daff and all and well done Taff, sleep will seems so sweet now! I just love Ann's story about the house and the history behind it. The thing is that contrary to what we are lead to believe, ( know in our village if someone had brown eyes and olive skin, folks would nod knowlingly ) about the Spanish Armada, Jac, most of the Spanish sailors perished in Ireland. For political reasons the authorities dealt very harshly with any survivors. Of course a few survived and spread themselves around a bit! I know of one woman called Strand whose ancestor from the Armada was found on the beach! I believe they were originally called La Strand.

History is so much more fascinating than real life aint it? lol Beautiful day here, sun blazing away, washing out already. Hope you have a lovely day in your garden, Daff:-) BCXXX

Morning everyone.... absolutely beautiful here, too.

I am going out for lunch with my mother and sister, and then we shall come back here and sit in the garden for an hour... the pub we are going to is only a couple of miles down the road.

Ann that is so fascinating... I love a mystery as well.... I hadn't realised that about a lot of Irish folk going to Tenerife to live in previous centuries...

I did know that Spanish survivors from Armada wrecks were dealt with very harshly, though. :¬((

HL is putting the wall around the raised lawn, and his sidekick is putting in the fence... I will have to go and choose a gate, now!!

I'll put photos up when they are done... I have taken the *before* so will put them up alongside the *after* when it is finished.

Must go... need to shower or my sister will be here and I won't be ready..... again!!

Love

Evening Daffers and all - I do hope you have all had a lovely day and that the sun has been beating down on you!

I'm only here for a moment - firstly to wish those of you attending the meet to have a wonderful time - everything has been laid on for you, weather, wine , grub etc etc. all you have to do is enjoy.

Secondly, I must tell you that I am a grt-grandmother today! One of my son's chooks has laid her first egg! How good is that eh? He only fetched them yesterday, so either the hen is very placid and happy to have been moved, or else she was desperate to eject - lol lol

I dont know which one is the proud momma - it could be Margaritta, Marjorie,Betty or Brenda and of course no one is going to eat this egg - I suspect it will be blown and framed for posterity! I'm so proud - I could have laid that egg meself!

Have a good time girlies - dont do anything I wouldnt do!
Bi for now

It is a glorious evening, we are all packed and sad to be leaving tomorrow but looking forward to seeing how the garden has survived.
