I watched a good western this afternoon starring Henry Fonda and Victor Mature and Ward Bond.My Darling Clematine its called.

A suprior version of the gunfight at OK Corral made in black andwhite

Did Doc Holliday have a smokers cough or consumption (TB)

Was Maddie David's uptown girl ?

She owned the business, was his boss as I recall

Doc Holliday did indeed have TB. The best version of the story I've seen is Tombstone, which had Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

It dealt with the aftermath of the Gunfight at the OK Corral as well, where the surviving Earp brothers, Doc and two others hunt down the gang (referred to as "The Cowboys" in this iteration of the story).

It portrayed Earp nearer the truth - bully, adulterer and hard-headed businessman who is just about the right side of the law himself. Ike Clanton is a minor member of the gang and shown as nothing more than a cowardly sidekick to the more prominent members of the gang.

If you get the chance to see it, it's well worth a look.

Thanks Ed. I actually own the video. I bought it a car boot sale, but I haven't seen it yet. My wifes not into westerns so I will have to wait for an opportunity to watch it.

Yes another fan here of Moonlighting, it was a bit daft at times, but enjoyed the flirting between Bruce and Cybil!

Indeed a good film Tombstone, but I preferred the one with Dennis Quaid playing Wyatt Earp, but thast's 'cos I quite like Dennis!

Think we may miss Elizabeth tonight...Steve McQueen is on TCM!!

I missed a good one last night, well I saw the last half hour or so of it...Angel Heart starring Mickey Rourke, bit blood thirsty and in parts very shocking but Mickey was lovely in the eighties!! I remember seeing it years ago. Talking of Mickey, I've just bought the DVD of nine and a half weeks off E Bay.

Glad you and your girls enjoyed the film with Heath Ledger in it, it's supposed to be very good, so sad he died so young.

Did you know Raymond Burr's film career goes a lot further back than A Man Called Ironside and Perry Mason (great signature tune)

He played the heavy in films ans was even in westerns

Hello David.................Raymond Burr was the baddie in a classic film noir called "Desperate" with Steve Brodie and Jason Robards. Very rarely shown on TV, though.

Raymond Burr was the bad guy in Rear Window - presume that would be before Perry Mason but not sure.

Will have to get Tombstone out of the video store. When we were in Tombstone my father went to one of those reenactment shows of the Gunfight at the OK Corral. He was a great western fan and in those days we had TV shows such as Laramie, Tombstone Territory, Maverick, Wyatt Earp, Gunsmoke etc and of course Clint Eastwood in Rawhide.

In those westerns we are entertained with some fancy shooting of great accuracy.

The guns of that era were such you'd be lucky to hit your man never mind shoot the gun out of his hand.

The best revolver play I saw was Lee Van Cleef with his rifle extension to give him a greater range over Clint Eastwood and others

We must be physic David (well it's deffinatly something mental with me!) I was listening to film tunes on You Tube the other evening and listened to a couple of the spaghetti western ones, great tunes!

With Clint Eastwood's megastardom I sometimes wonder if he bought all those black and white episodes of Rawhide. In it he wasn't always the star or the centre of the story.

I also liked John and Buck in High Chapperal, wonder why they don't repeat these ?

I always liked Manuelito in High Chapparal.

I also remember Sheb Woolley being in Rawhide
He sang : I told the witchdoctor ------- ooh aah walla walla bing bang

and he did the Purple Eater song as well. But Frankie Lane sang

head em up move em out Rawhide.

Victoria was ok too

mmmmmm....so let me work this out...all the fellas fancied Victoria and the ladies liked Manuellito, and no one fancied 'horse', ha ha!
