Hi Helen

Are they still in the envelopes - you might want to consider before burning them if any of the stamps are worth collecting. Who knows you may have a rare stamp stuck on one of them lol

Oh how lucky you are, I have nothing like that. My Mum always said she kept her engagement ring from her first fiance who died and was keeping it for me, but they got really hard up and she sold it.
My parents met in October 1945 when Dad was on demob in Norfolk and Mum was a Land girl, and they married a few days after Christmas 1945. There was hardly time for it to be a shotgun wedding but Mum borrowed her sister's wedding dress so it went back after and no souveniers except a few pieces of card cut from political cards (my aunt was strong Labour supporter) with names of who sent gifts, so I expect the pressies were opened and laid out with these labels on, there was one gift tag written out from one person themselves. I still have one plate from Mum's wedding gift dinner service and some wooden eggcups on a stand and a wooden fruit bowl, both handmade as gifts for them.
I suppose a lot of stuff got slung out as they moved to my Dad's home county of Buckinghamshire after the wedding but didn't stay long as Mum and Gran didn't get on. There was a baby boy who was stillborn while they were there, and my Gran was so unsympathetic to Mum she wouldn't stay, so we ended up back in Mum's home city of Norwich and didn't see much of the Bucks rellies. I was born in Norwich in 1947.
There wasn't really any time for Mum and Dad to write to each other as they were close by at Trunch (the demob place) and Cromer where Mum had lodgings. They met when Mum was riding her bike back from work to Cromer and Dad whistled at her lol
Brazen hussy must have stopped to speak to him, wonder how long it took her to stop lol

Hope you enjoy reading of the love between your parents Joy. I only have a few cards they sent one another, my brothers threw a lot of stuff in the skip when Mum died, before I could get to look.
