Hi Sharon....just a quick update....Benjamin Brentnall senior apparently died 1886 in Notts.
Benjamin Brentnall junior married Ann fourth quarter of 1859 in Nottingham..and had six children
In 1871 Father benjamin was living with them.
In 1861 Father benjamin was living at Saxondale Village on his own.
1851 living at Bingham with his son John aged 10..who clealry had moved on by 1861 And don't forget that Ben senior was widowed by 1851, and since i can't find his wife asnywhere she probably died 1841. perhaps in childbirth..remember also benjamin junior was born 1834..and john 1841. Good hunting

Hi Derek
Hope you can help.
My gg grandfather was William Needham b 1796 in Tideswell, died 1885 in Windmill. He had two wives (1) Sarah Gregory m 17 Sep 1817 in Hope, who died before 1824 when he married (2) Hannah Downing in Nov 1824 also in Hope. My ancestor is his first child with Sarah, Mary, b 1818 in Tideswell, though on census records that gets altered to Windmill, Bakewell or Cressbrook. She married Abraham Oldfield in Macclesfield, and there the Needham line ends for me.
In 1861 and 1881, William is living in Little Hucklow. In 1851 in Litton, and in 1841 the same. He died in 1885 in Windmill, Little Hucklow.
As far as I can determine, William's parents were George Needham b 1765 in Beeley and Rebecca Drabble b 1765, married 1791 in Eyam. No other records seem likely, but there is no evidence to say that this one is correct.
I get a bit worried about them all dashing about between Hope, Eyam, Tideswell, Cressbrook, Beeley, Windmill and Bakewell. Although all those places are in the locality they are not particularly close for a family in the late 1700s with no transport. I live in North Derbyshire myself, so I know the locality, indeed my daughter has just booked her wedding venue for next year in Hope.
Given the Tideswell connection, I have scoured Tideswell Church cemetery and there is not a Needham in sight. If you look at the cencus records for Tideswell in 1841-1861 at least, the place is full of Needhams, yet none are buried in the "Cathedral of the Peak" churchyard. There is a Catholic church in Tideswell, I wonder if that is worth a search? I have tried the one just out of town off the main road, but those are later deaths (Municipal graveyard).
I have made VERY good friends on Genes with a chap whose ancestor is Thomas Needham born around 1800 in Tideswell. We can find no connection between the two of us at all.
I feel that cemetery records are likely to give us some information - do you have any?
For some reason the screen is not now letting me go back to FTM to give you further information on these families, but I do have some.
Are you able to help at all from what I have said?
Can add more later if need be.
Margaret

Hi Derek
You are confirming our findings so far. We believe that the Thomas who married 3 wives is the same one as the children appear with him and whichever wife at the time. My friend's ancestor is son Edward, born to Margaret. I don't recall if my friend knew of baby William but I think he had the death of Margaret.
It seems possible that St John the Baptist was their church - are there any records I can access?
Many thanks, and for your PMs too, I have probably repeated myself!

Hi Margaret.Your friend's THOMAS NEEDHAM was not baptised at Tideswell..unless he was born either 1785..or 1815..there is no Thomas in between.
By the way.no Needhams in the catholic Church..

Hi Derek
The only baptisms for Thomas that seem about right are in 1800 in either Monyash or Chelmorton, born to Joseph and Mary. I cannot find such a Thomas on the 1841 or 1851 census living in those villages, only the fella in Tideswell. So we are a bit stuck there.
I wonder if you could look at the burial records for Thomas d 1877, William (mine) d 1885, Edward d 1895 and possibly George, b 1765, d after 1806. Might these tell us who else is buried with them?
Many thanks
Margaret

Ok Margaret..I have good news for you about Your WILLIAM NEEDHAM...He IS the son of George and Rebecca.which means i can give you two further generations before George... George DID marry Rebecca Drabble 30.08.1791.....at Eyam..but he came from Hope to do it....which is a common factore in most of my work on here....the spouse finds his girl maybe a few villages away.and almost always marries her in her home village..so we have a definite match george of Hope married Rebecca of Eyam He then took her back with him to Hope...and they lived at GRINDLOW next village to Little Hucklow. So even me with my pedantic correctness,am happy you have the right William and the right George.
George and rebecca had the following children,,registered baptisma at Tideswell.. William 17.07.1796 Robert 13.05.1798 Samuel 30.12.1804 Peter 30.04.1806
Get back to you in a mo with George's pedigree.......

Lets go back to c 1670..when one THOMAS NEEDHAM was born..he married ANN.and moved from wherever to Beeley...There is only one family in Beeley and its all yours.... Their children were: CHARLES NEEDHAM b.02.05.1693 Hannah 12.05.1695 Deborah 09.11.1699
CHARLES married Sarah Calton (of bakewell) 19.08.1726 and their children were: CHARLES NEEDHAM 29.06.1729 Mary b 05.01.1735
CHARLES married Elizabeth Bradley (of bakewell) 18.05.1758 and had the following children:
Henry 18.02.1759 Dorothy 27.07.1760 Charles 23.05.1762 John 13.10.1763 GEORGE 17.03.1765

Hi Derek
This is impressive after such a short time!
I sort of "had" William's brothers, presumably from IGI, I have an extra one Francis born 1793, but the confirmation is great cos of course I only have access to whatever is on IGI. I also sort of "had" George's brothers (but not the exact dates - are these birth dates or christening dates?).
I also sort of "had" Charles born early 1700s as a guess on my part, so 1693 is right.
Now re Charles b 1729 and Mary 1735, I also have Elizabeth 1731, these are probably from submitted records to IGI and unreliable compared to your records. I did not go any further back, so it is great that you have done so.
I note, however, that you have not located any fortune - and so far no Thomas, but I will see if I can search for George's brothers in the 1760s.
Unless of course, you'd like to do it for me....
But I do feel I have taken up a lot of your time.
Any luck with the burials I suggested?
Do you have any Cheshire ancestors I can help with, I have all sorts of CDs and stuff for the Macclesfield area.
Many, many thanks.
Margaret

Hi Margaret .I'm more than happy to follow up George's siblings for you......I'll let you know what i find...... Unfortunately i only have partial records for Hope Valley area.....so I'll have to search for Thomas elsewhere i think...... As for burial records....the only way you can find out who is in a grave is by whats on the stone.....or by cemetery records.....very difficult to find before about 1870..and we have 52 burials and no stones!! (at Tideswell.......
