Good evening all

Diane and Nikki..

Bith of your stories are also very interesting to read. Fingers croosed to the both of you that you get the results you want.

Malcolm..

Thankyou for your continued help and support and the articles that you have sent me.

Ann..

The photo's were brilliant wern't they? I am so glad that you got to put faces to the names...

A quick update for you.

A few months ago I wrote to a Pamela Davis. She was the daughter of Edwin William Livermore Junior..
I received and email from her son in law informing me that she had sadly passed away. On talking with his wife he daisd that although Pamelas name was Livermore they didnt recognise any of the other names that I had given them. So there cant really be a connection..So again another brick wall.

My mother accidently found a very old photo of my father aged about 15. He is stood with three friends outside a back door of a house. He is holding a dog. When he saw the photo he was very clear that the dog belonged to the two women that he use to stay with.He remembered the dog with great love and effection. On the back of the photo was the written address. It reads ....

8 ARKLOW SQUARE
RAMSGATE.

I have done a quick search but so far nothing.

Have a good week everyone.

Hi Nicola.

Thankyou so much.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that we might get a Livermore connection with this address. My dad was born in 1942. He was around 15 in his photo so that would take it to 1956-1957.
But then again it could just be an address where my father was sent to for some respite. I really dont know.
Thankyou
Dionne

Would be tempted to get in touch with the Family History Society in Kent/Ramsgate. A similar society in Scotland has helped me so much in the past fortnight giving me the names of people living at various addresses at various years dating back to the eary 1900s.

Take care

I agree... Ramsgate library will probably look up the electoral register for you for 1955/7 by email, I've had some libraries do the same for me.

Good luck !

Dionne Report 29 Jan 2008 13:33

Good afternoon.

I received an email today as follows.....

Dear Mrs Kendrick

Thank you for your enquiry. We don't hold any electoral registers here, but we do have some street/directories covering the years 1953 (not 1952) to 1960 for Ramsgate. These reveal that 8 Arklow Square, Ramsgate was Aivleys Guest House, run by P Chamberlain and Mrs S Cross.

I hope this helps to put the photograph into some context.

Your sincerely

I spoke to my father and he said he could remember the name Cross.
He then said that when his school closed down for the summer all children without family to go to were sent away for two weeks in the Summer. So it looks like this was just a guest house that he stayed at. But I am really glad that he has happy memories of his time there as he didnt have many happy times as a child.

Dionne Report 21 Feb 2008 20:39

Hi All

Thankyou for all thinking of me and my father and asking after our epic of a story.

Well I do have an update of sorts but not on the Livermore side of the family tree. It is on the Sloper side. As you know I have been having contact with my newly found cousin Pamela. She is the daughter of Jean Ann( Jean Ann was my fathers sister and the daughter of Herbert Sloper. Herbert took Jean Ann to live with him in Wales).

I received a letter from Pam today with more photo’s of Jean Ann. She looked so much like my father in her younger day’s it is un true. She hasn’t been able to remember many details about our grandfather Herbert but little things are coming back to her. One of the photo’s she sent me was of Jean Ann and a lady. The ladies name was Mrs Annie Murphy. She said that Jean Ann and her father went to live with this lady when they left London for Wales. Pamela knew Annie as her Nan. I t was only in later life that Jean Ann told her daughter the truth and said that she wasn’t her real Nan. Jean Ann lived with Annie until Annie died. So I am wondering if Herbert was having an affair and moved in with this lady.

Pamela then went on to say how strict Herbert was on the few occasions that she met him he was stern towards her. Pamela can remember her mother telling her that Grandad Sloper was very much into the Salvation Army and in later life when he couldn’t care for himself he went into some sort of home run by the Salvation Army. Pam then said that in later life her mother went to work at Chepstow Hospital in Wales. She included some further photo’s of her. In later life Jean Ann become very involved with the Catholic Church and even changed to the Catholic faith. It was nice to have a little more detail on my fathers sister and his father and my father is really happy hearing about it. I am hoping that in time Pamela will remember more things to pass onto me.

As for the Livermore’s and our mystery Edwin William Livermore. The journey has really come to an abrupt end. I have explored all avenues and am still no closer into finding out 1. Who he married and 2. Where he died. I think I have finally admitted defeat. It is a shame because this is the last piece of the Jigsaw. The only piece missing. But I really don’t know where to go next. You name it and I have tried it. You never know one day something might just turn up.

I have suggested on a few occasions closing this thread but have been asked by a few of you to keep it open. If anyone still thinks that it is worth keeping it open then I will.

Many thanks everyone
Hugz

Good news, Dionne - it's all part of the family picture. Please keep the thread here - you never know what might turn up one day. Incoming passenger lists are coming online at some stage - that might provide the clue!

Don't close it Dionne. There's no need. It will disappear from view when not wanted & you never know who may join GR at a later date from South Africa & go searching for Livermores from England!

Keep your fingers crossed.

Ozi.
