Dionne, I started to read your thread as I caught sight of the mention of the Army Personnel Centre at Kentigern House which is where I work. several hours and now cold feet and hands later I came to the end of the thread, My what a journey you have had.
Can I just say that there will be a little delay in Disclosures getting back to you as they are very busy answering lots of queries from people like yourself. Also have you considered getting in touch with the Army Medals Office which is at Innsworth, I can give you the address for that if you PM me.
Even today children might not be entered on a service person's record if there were no monetry reason for doing so. Also records have always been subject to the soldier reporting the matter or the clerk updating the record.
I found one piece of information very interesting from his record when it says he was removed from the QM Dept for misconduct. Was there any record of a charge on his record?
Thank you for a fantastic read. I have always known that folks on here were great but this thread has just confirmed everything that I thought.

I've finally gone back and read this from page 1, and I wondered if you exhausted all the information you wanted from the orphanage at Clacton?

Unfortunately looking on SEAX, the Essex Record Office index, they only have building plans. But I then found a thread on rootsweb via google, and the entries in the census list had all the children on a page as born in London, which implies perhaps that your father was sent there from London, not because of family ties with the Clacton area.

I'm sure there must be more history on this if you are interested. There appears to be an orphanage taken over by Barnado's in 1947, and I can't think that there were two? Also the orphanage was evacuated in WW2 and the girls went to Gloucestershire under the care of John Groom who had set up the orphanage, but I think your father would have been there later?

Thankyou for your posting. I am going to read this again tomorrow when I am less tired. I to think I have to go through everything all over again as there is so much information and things can get quite confuseing.I do know that Edwins sisters seemed to settle near Clacton but I also take your point on board about the London children being sent to Clacton.
I am still greatful for any information that I can get.

I've just read through your thread from page one and can't believe the similarity to my own search!

My maternal grandmother left her first born with relatives, her second born (my mother) with strangers in North Wales and her 2 youngest were adopted.

I managed to trace the first born and he and my mother were reunited last year after 67 years. As siblings, they were able to access the adoption records of the younger 2 and also the court records with my grandmother's original statements regarding the adoptions.

We've managed to contact the younger siblings and are now in constant contact.

What you will need to do is contact the Social Services in the district that the adoptions took place. Your father, as the sibling, will be the only person who can access these records. There shouldn't be any cost involved (there wasn't for us) as most local councils now have government support for tracing adoptees.

What a wonderful ending to you search.I am so pleased that you have had such great sucsess.

I know that my father can request records on his sisters and this is something that we are going to do.But as you can see there is so much going on in this story at the moment and with so many things still to be sorted.The sisters are very much on top of the list. I also have to prepare my father as I know that he is the one that has to make the first contact with social services.At the moment I dont think he is 100% ready to do this.It seems every few weeks I am giving him more information on the family that he never knew he had.

Read on this site somewhere the other day that GR had lost/removed somones entire thread!!

Might be a good idea to print off your entire thread for your records and also maybe save it electronically, that way if the worse was to happen, you could just copy and paste it back in. It would be awful to lose this thread til you have managed to close it yourself.

To all interested parties.

I found that William Livermore & family moved to Colchester in 1893 & lived at no 9 Balkerne Lane. In 1905 he moved to no 42 Maldon Road then in 1911 he moved to no19 Alexandra Road where he stayed until his death in 1940. When he died it would appear that his wife Sarah moved to Copford Essex to live with her daughter/sil where she died, both are buried in Colchester cemetery. This info is from the Electoral Rolls in Colchester library.

William & Sarah were married in 1883 so 1933 would be there Golden Wedding anniversary, will have a look for that.

UPDATE.....
I have what I think to be a great breakthrough on Edwin Livermore.I reveived an email today from the Army Medical Museum. I have pasted it here for you.It goes as follows..

Dear Dionne,

I have had a chance to look at the papers you sent me. It appears Edwin/Edward was a trained nurse,highly qualified during his time in the army. His records show he was discharged from the army in 1912 in Pretoria, South Africa. I would have thought it likely he remained in the nursing/medical profession ! I hope this has been of some use.
