Looking for the death record for my Great Great Grandfather James Thomas Potter, born 28th Dec 1855, at Woolwich Dockyard, Woolwich, Kent.

His father Samuel Potter was a policeman who lived at 13 Upper Harden St. Woolwich. 1823-1889
His mother Elizabeth Fletcher 1834 -1871

Brother Walter born 1862
another brother William born 1867

Wife Elizabeth Stafford 1860-1908
Married on 21 August 1878, Sardis Chapel, Pontypridd.

James and Elizabeth had 5 sons;
Thomas James Potter 1878- ?
William Walter Potter 1879-1939
Arthur Potter 1882-1961 (my great grandfather)
Samuel Potter 1884-1916
Charles Potter 1887-?

I have been told by his grand daughter that he was the black sheep of the family, she believes he was wanted for theft and moved to Wales.

I know for a fact my great grandfather Arthur Potter(above) lived at 5 Arch Street, Pontlottyn, Wales.

No one in the family seems to know what happened to him, just a date and place of death would help. Any other information would be a really big bonus.

Can't see a marriage

Elizabeth Williams in the last entry, is Williams the maiden name of his wife, I have her as Stafford.

Could have been, funny thing is there are a couple of queries around this area in the family, and maybe thats where it is. Just having a look.

Well, James was - presumably - around when Charles was conceived, but Elizabeth had taken up with Jenkins by early 1889.

No sign of JT after 1881 on any records that I've checked so far.................

This part of the family is so complicated, my gg grandfather has half siblings with the surname of Jenkins.

Also I have in my records Elizabeth Stafford (Williams) 1860-1908, I wondered where the Williams came from.

Looks like she was a bigamist.....................otherwise, she'd have married as Potter

Elizabeth Stafford's mum was Mary Pricilla Williams.

I had just assumed that James died/ vanished or went to prison after Charles.

No wonder I have been having trouble putting it all together.

At the moment, I'm unable to see him after 1881 - got to log off now.

I'm sure someone will find him .....................
