Hi Lorraine
Would you be able to find Maria May Jones b. Scranton, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1887? Her father was Robert Jones b. Dec.7, 1864 Rumney (Rhymney) Monmouthshire, Wales. He was a miner. Mother unknown. Maria and Robert returned to UK and I think they appear in the 1901 UK census.
Thank you Ted

Thanks for looking, Lorraine - really appreciate it. I was once told that not all births had to be recorded in Scranton at that time. Would this be right?
In 1901 family was living in: Ecclesiastical Parish - Ferndale, Christchurch Civil Parish - Ystradyfodwg
Maria was said to be born circa 1900 - British Subject born in US
In 1911 Census family was still living in Ferndale. Maria was married then and not mentioned with the family. Robert's spouse is Elizabeth. I believe she is his second wife. They had been married 16 years. Maria usually went by the name "May".
Thanks again Ted

Thaks very much Lorraine for your help that's the fella. My aunt said that he was married and she died in childbirth so its stranges. would you try something for me would you look for a marriage under the name Garland Massey. If you look at my threadsa nice person sent me a thread which was a little strange but interesting. On the info that you sent me it says some about marriage with dependants, i did ask what this meant and i was told that he had been married and the was a child or children so its a bit strange isnt it?
Thanks very much again Mike

Hi Lorraine,
Many, many thanks for all your hard work finding the Goldsmiths for me. It was my last idea of finding them. Because of nothing in the UK I assumed they went to USA because of how the tobacco trade was developing at the time. Hopefully with all this wonderful information you have given me I can find out where they hailed from in Holland.
Thank you so much! :) Best wishes, Marie.

Hi Lorraine,
Can I just ask, if an address is written as 30 W. 3d. h 216 Wooster and another as 39 First av. h 119 Seventh, how do I work out what it all means? I was given these details from another GR member from USA directory and wondered if it was possible to find the buildings on google maps as it is very good with street view of New York. I just dont understand all the figures etc! I could if it just said First Avenue but all that stuff after muddles me up!
Thanks again, Marie.

Hi Lorraine,
Any chance in finding a Thomas Hutchings b 1867 Devon, that emigrated to Montreal Canada 1882,. through out his life he came & went back & forth UK & Canada. I have most his passengers lists.
He was once living in Manitoba. Canada with his family.. also lived in Quebec with his family. This is them in the 1911 Quebec Canada Census His wife was Ellen s1884. Rusk b 1896. Frank b1898 Muriel b 1899 Monica b 1910.
Although he did come home to England many times , he never died in the UK. So he must have died in Canada. Ellen he either left or she died because he married later in 1831 in USA just over the border in Illinois and that Marriage ended . and he went back to Canada. Hope I haven't overloaded you .So sorry if I have ,but its just a DEATH that I am after. Please Lorraine. be grateful for anything !!

will take another look under massey and see what i cant find
nothing under that surname
I did find a marriage for a columbus may and katie cross in 1913 in polk tennessee ( polk was mentioned in garlands ww2 index) so its a pretty good bet these are his parents

found this now wifes name is harriet but born north caroline, head of family just has initials but born george and right year of birth for luther

Hi Lorraine, Don't know when 1st wife died as I have been unable to find her death anywhere. I suspect this is because 'Minnie' was not her real name but a nickname. It is believed within the family that he went to USA late 30s. Oleafa was on holiday when she died and I'm sorry for lack of info but I don't know if she was alone or not. Many thanks for trying to help, I'm very grateful but I knew it would be a long shot. As he had no children with either wife it is proving impossible to get anything on him. Sorry for not having more to go on, kind regards, Cath
