Before i place anymore....is either him?I have very little info from you on him so best you look and if either is him i will break it down.
There are no age 18 on the 1841...the 1841 is not the most accurate census for birthyears though.

If neither him i i will post a few more possibles.

Only got the 1861 and 71 for John.He is a tricky person to follow back. There are a few possibles on earlier census records.I suggest you obtain 1 of his children's birth certs and get his wives name(Maiden name)then you can obtain the marriage cert,to see what his father's name was.
There were a few possibles for marriages too!!

I am sure you have the right Sarah. If the birth cert states John Storey as father and Sarah as mother.
The 1861-71 both state John Storey's birthplace as Cumberland. He is not an easy person to trace back...as he hasn't really given a district of birthplace.I am looking for their marriage but that's proving tricky as he was from Cumberland and she was from Lancashire and they lived in Durham!!I looked on free BMD and no marriage listed..??I will take another look on my site later.

Hiya Michelle, thanks so much for looking on 1841 census for my William Richardson, all I know from his marriage cert is that he was age 19 in May 1842 and his father was Thomas, a Labourer. He married Isabella Holmes in the parish of Burton, Westmoreland. On his sons birth cert in 1854 he was in Holme, the reg district was Kendal and the sub district was Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland and Lancaster. Would be grateful of any info. Thanks Carolyn

Hi Michelle, I am having trouble trying to find some deaths in my direct paternal line. These are those giving me trouble:

William WAY born 1797 in Tolpuddle, married Ann Penny Miller. Last born 1837. Ann died 1879 Dorchester Union.

William WAY born 1824 Athelhampton, married Maria CLARK. Last born 1863. Can see him in 1881 census with daughter Mary Ann whilst wife was in Lambeth with family. Cannot see him on 1891 census. Cannot find him on FreeBMD.

Joseph WAY born 1856 Tolpuddle, married Mary Ann FOOT in Lambeth. Last born 1890. I can see both him and Mary Ann on 1911 census but cannot locate death.

Have you got and ideas on these at all please?

Best wishes,

Hi Michelle

I seem to have hit a brick wall and hope you can help. I have traced my great great grandfather(James Loughlan) on every census from 1861 and each one says he was born in Leeds, there are alot of variations to spellings of his names and i have checked each one out. On the 1861 and 1871 census he is living with his father Peter but his mother is deceased. I found a birth in Leeds in 1855 under the spelling Laughlin but they have e-mailed me to say that it is not the right one, fathers name is not Peter. Have you any idea's as to what i can do now.

Kind regards

Danielle

Hi Michelle, I've been to the attic in search of info I was given on Channel Isles etc and found some old sensus data that might prove useful.

I found 1871 census Tolpuddle 1871 with what looks like wife Ann WAY as lodger and widow. she died in dorchester Union 1879 and buried Tolpuddle. So your right William may have been buried channel isles. Although I found a piece of scrap paper stappled to census data with William WAY death Apr-Jun 1869 age 72 district Weymouth, county Dorset etc. I think I will send off for that certificate. In the mean time i'll post on channel islands mailing list to see if someone can check out for a death over there.

Best wishes,
Derek

Derek Report 7 Feb 2009 17:13

Hi Michelle, I agree William 1824 looks like he died 1881 - 1891. He was with daughter Annie in Moreton Dorset on 1881 census whilst wife Maria was in Lambeth. You've narrowed the search to ten years now. I will try and get a look at the PRO indexes and see if I can find the death.

As for Joseph and Mary Ann, I haven't a clue with these too. They are on the 1911 census onlinestuff. Is this a case again slogging through the PRO indexes do you think?

Best wishes,
Derek

No obvious death for Joseph but its poss he lived to an old age and would be on the BMD Index. He may have died aged 80 plus this would place him on the index and not show him on the transcribed records.I will take a look later for you.

Danielle

Hi Danielle

A name with transcript nightmares!!Well my 1st suggestion to you is to send for James's marriage cert to see if father is listed as Peter on that.

There are several possibilities which i am sure you also have considered.

1) James was not born in Leeds and was born in Ireland. He may have come over at a very young age(as a baby) and so therefore considered Leeds and Yorkshire as his homeplace.

2) His birth may not have been registered. It was not compulsory to register births until 1875.Quite alot of births were not registered.

3) Peter was going by his middle name on the census records. What was the name of the father of the 1855 birth you sent for?It is poss for example that he was John Peter and favoured his middle name?

4) The birth record could be badly transcribed.

So as you can see there are several explanations for the birth record.

What census info have you on Peter prior to 1861?What i also found interesting is i looked for a death of a Loughlan female dying between 1855-1861 in Yorkshire and nothing???So did she die in England?

Also on the 1871 was the Peter you found a Clothes Dealer?

What are your thoughts?

David

David Report 7 Feb 2009 20:52

Hello Michelle

Thank you for taking your time on this for me, I ended up working for 4 hours and think I've finally sorted it. GRO didn't send me the certificate as the fathers name didn't match but I have sent off for it again and not filled in fathers details. On the 1861 census James is living with his father Peter and they are boarding with Margaret and Catherine Clifford (down as Clillord on census). On 1871 census he is living with his father Peter, who has re-married to someone called Margaret and had Catherine and Bridget. It turns out that Margaret is Margaret clifford from the 1861 census and from looking up the marriage she married a Patrick Lochran so after all that Peter is actually Patrick. Could you tell me if there is anything on the 1851 census for a Patrick Lochran/Loughlan/Laughlin/Locklin please?

Kind regards

Danielle
