That is quite brick wall you have there Cathy!Such a shame your Grandfather didn't feel the need to tell all in his last days isn't it.

Well i don't how if i am going to be able to help much with this cos i don't have world access to records and your Grandfather has lived in quite a few countries abroad.

I will try and see if i can find something for you though.Couple of questions 1st i need to be clear on.

1) Do you know where Norman served in the war?Was the family in the UK when he joined?Reason i ask is there is a Norman listed as dead on the records but he was listed as being born Yorkshire.He was in the Machine Gun Corps.

2) You mentioned your Grandfather born in India was his brother also?

3) At what points were your family listed as being in the UK?Was it around the turn of the century?

4) Any info on where the parents were prior to children being born?You mentioned Scotland and North...is this where they were from?

5) The death in 1966...which country did he die in?

6) The family coming from India to Colchester was this fact-ie have you the records for the return to UK or is this family info?

Also your William Henry and family seemed to move house from Census to census so i would say the address you had was prob where they lived in the 1840's.When he was a child.Also there were no other Matilda's on the 1851-61.So i would say it was the family.Sounds like they lived quite a grand life.

Hi and welcome to Genes.

I do not have access to Scottish BMD's only the census records 1841-1901 for Scotland.

What you need to do is to go to the site i have listed below.Its free to register and search and but you do have to pay to view records.Its the best source though for Scottish BMD records.As you know the names and also when and where they married it shouldn't cost you alot to get the marriage record up.This will show you both parents names and ages of the couple at marriage and then if you give me this info i can then refer to the census records.

For me to search the census for them i will need from the marriage record-both parents names and occupations if listed and the age of the couple at marriage and any other relevant info the record shows.

I am looking for WILLIAM HATELY in in the 1901 census estimated birth 1897...he is age 22 on his marriage cert 1919 in the district of Glendale Northumberland. His Father is Andrew HATELY occupation Farm servant.

Also ANNIE JOHNSON same age probably the same area father THOMAS JOHNSON also a Farm servant.
