I've got the impression you are in the south Jude? I wonder if it's the same one flown down from Conwy or if others have been taken off course?

Not been on much lately but have been reading the threads.

Spring is late here in Berkshire. Still soggy too, but warmer.

Nice flock of birds when we came in from shopping at lunch time today.... the waxwings are back !! Only said a day or two back we hadn't seen them this year.

Hi Jude ,Ann and everyone.
It has been ages since I posted and the last week or so when I have tried I just can't post :-S :-S :-S.I type out a long screed and then Poof it just disappears :-|
Just giving it another try now.
Lots of birds here and the sound at just after 5 in the morning is soooo lovely My Robins are being very cheeky and too tame.My favourite one I call Buster ,I'm having to stop coming into the house.I quite expect to see him sat at the table one day waiting to be fed lol.

Jude I lost my lovely Chester just over a week ago.We had to have him put to sleep due to Kidney failure :-( :-(

It's nice to see the swifts and swallows back. Hope they are not finding it too cold this year.

The swifts have started nesting in the eaves of our house again.

Jane l am so sorry to read your sad news about Chester, sorry to that l have'nt been back on this thread.....l would have known sooner. How are you both? It takes a while to get used to losing our best friends!

KenSe...we've had the swifts/swallows too, we actually added water to a puddle couple of weeks ago, it was when it was warm and the puddle kept drying up....and we could see the birds picking up mud. Don't know where they have nested, they used to use the bungalow opposite but the man that lived there ripped the nests down:((((((5 - 6yrs ago now).

We've had a pair of Bullfinches call in everynow and then and we can see them eating the dandelions seeds, all the bits of white fluff blowing in the air, lovely:))

The woodpecker is back regularilly and the Jay most mornings, but l'm too late to see him. l heard him this morning, the dog frightened him off!!

Jane I am so sorry to hear about Chester.

How lovely to have tame robins although not sure I would want them in the house.

We don't see a lot of birds here in Tenerife North but looking out from the apartment we do see frequently a couple of hawks and lots of swifts. This morning on the patio there was a blackbird carrying nesting material. We also see blue tits and tiny busy canaries, we can hear them singing too. We can also hear the para queers. I shall leave that in because it made me chuckle and I hope it does you too. I did of course mean paraqueets.

I thought I would tell you about Duncan... you can google him... he is a Kokako and whilst they look like they can fly they are amateurs at it and mostly hop along.. he disappeared from his home area and managed to travel quite a distance.

They say he left because his girlfriend spurned him, she fancied another kokako who had a bigger blue wattle at his throat.

What you have to realise is a lot of our native birds are endangered species so we look upon them a bit like family and get concerned when they aren't where they are supposed to be etc.

Aaw, nice that he has been found safe and well, little monkey off looking where he thought the grass was greener.

4 weeks away = a lot of grass! So we were cutting the lawn, after T strimming it the day before yesterday so it would dry out. And would you believe a collard dove has built (well I think she threw it together) a nest and is sitting balanced precariously on an outer branch of our apple tree which is right at the top of the lawn. It doesn't seem to bother her that we are gardening underneath her either. I have been pulling up weeds and thug hardy geraniums and she hasn't moved. I say 'she' but we have just had a shift change, the current one is a bit bigger so I assume it is the male. the first one is quite small and was not at all nervous about us. The one sitting now didn't like the lawn mowere, kept moving its head but has settled now. What a place to put a nest, must have been quiet while we were away. Having said that, all winter they have been feeding on the seed feeders so i suppose they were eying up the tree.

We have several baby chicks about, Thrushes,Blackbirds,Robins,Blue Tits, Great Tits, and two baby Woodpeckers. Also have Jackdaws and Jays raiding the birdtables.

This thread has been languishing since June, nobody obviously has any bird stories. However I'll boost it up and try and get it transferred. Meanwhile I might put another bird thread up on the new board.

Oh I'm so pleased to see the thread still here .I thought it had vanished !
Birds very busy here .So many Blue Tits !!!.All feeding like mad on the coconut and the FatSticks .My Robins look so tatty at the moment.I don't know if they are moulting or what but they look a real mess.There only seems to be one that looks like a proper Robin lol
Two young Woodpidgeons seem to be in love and I have seen one bringing sticks and taking them into the hedge.We are going to be having major work done on our massive Yew Hedge and a few trees,but will have to make sure there is no nesting going on.The tree Surgeon has said it should be fine to do the work in about a month.Thanks for bringing the thread back up Ann :-D :-D
