Good upside down morning,

My fruit and her partner have moved into their own home and have been chopping out a lot of growth that was too close to the house, covering windows etc.

Now they have birds (she can't tell me which - sparrows or the like I would think),
literally pecking at the bedroom window each day.
I have never heard the like,

Can anyone enlighten us to why this might be happening ?

I don't think they were nesting in the growth.

Susan :-)

Hi Susan
The birds I have had pecking at my windows are Blue Tits and Wagtails.I don't think it would be Sparrows.Have to say they do look funny when they do it lol

Susan-nz Report 12 Sep 2012 20:57

Hi Jane,

We don't have Blue Tits or Wagtails - or maybe we do by another name :-S.

I thought it was a really curious thing for a bird to do... Drives fruit nuts.

We have a bird like a Robbin, but not sure if it is..

At the moment, we have Wax Eyes in the garden, they are really cute.

Jane Report 12 Sep 2012 21:17

Susan ,the birds that peck at the windows seem to go for the rubber seals around the window frames(not the actual window),but it sounds like they are tapping the window.
I think some time ago I send a pic to Jude's blog of a Blue Tit at my window.
Never Heard of a Wax Eye.I have heard of Waxwings but don't know what they look like. Will have do a google. But that will have to wait now until tomorrow (watching Who do you think you are).

I heard an owl this morning at 6.30.It was still quite dark.I will keep an ear open again in the morning (if I'm awake) and see if I can fathom out where it is coming from.Hopefully from one of our big trees :-D
I found a conker on the patio this morning...think it must have been from a squirrel on manouvers(sp)?Other than that there is not a lot to report bird wise from my garden.

Oh my word.I just realised the last posting was the 20th September !!!!

We saw 12 Red Kites(or could be Buzzards ) the other day.The most I have seen at the same time is 7.They were so high up it was a bit difficult to see properly.

One busy Squirrel in the garden, rushing everywhere with a mouth full of conkers lol
I must start putting the coconuts back up outside the Patio door.I would love to see my Earless Squirrel again (if it is still around).

I hear a flock /group of Canada Geese at the same time each morning fly right over us.(I think I mentioned this a little while ago) but then they stopped. Now back again.
They make such a racket they wake the dog up lol.
Bird life has been very quiet in my garden .But hopefully now when I start putting the feeders out again things will liven up.
There are lots of Purple poops all over my patio .Elderberry time :-S

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2012 11:50

12 red kites Jane that would be a wonderful sight. Can't think there would be that many buzzards together.

Didn't see that many birds in Tenerife, the resident hawk was overhead most days and a few canaries, a seagull or two and that was about it, but we did spot the fins of about four dolphins just off the shore when we were having lunch one day. :-)

Jane Report 17 Oct 2012 17:20

I have put up the Coconut again just outside my Patio Doors.Same place as before but I have been very disappointed in the number of birds on it so far :-(
But a lovely sight this afternoon to see the Green Woodpecker enjoying a feast on the lawn :-D
No Earless Squirrel so far.I wonder if it has gone elsewhere now.Does anyone know if Squirrels keep to the same territory each year?.

Quite a lot of bird activity in the garden, they seem to be stocking up with food ,keep having to replenish it daily ,the bathing is quite a sight with about six or seven at the same time with lots on branches waiting their turn,(Pecking order seems to be the thing) its a lovely sight.

Wend

Wend Report 23 Oct 2012 14:28

I've noticed a lot of bird activity in my garden too, particular those pesky blackbirds who are, at this very moment, tucking into the fruit on my strawberry tree!
