Hello everyone, Welcome home Brenda, it's horrible when you have to suffer such a long delay at the end of your holiday. Hope you catch up on your sleep tonight. It is raining hard at the moment, been very dull for a couple of days with some showers but also periods of heavy rain and a thunderstorm in the early hours. Woke to find a river flowing down the road, soon cleared though. They are still telling us that we haven't had enough rain yet and the hosepipe ban will remain probably through the winter - don't actually see the need for a hosepipe at the moment as the garden is getting very well watered. I love beetroot served hot with a white sauce but like the sound of Sylvia's recipe so will give that a try soon. My g.daughter used to help peel the beets but always wore plastic gloves because she didn't like her fingers going all red. Hope your conservatory gets finished soon John, it will be worth the wait though especially as you have the summer to look forward to. Dorothy, sounds as though you and your friend had a lovely time during her visit to you. It must be exciting waiting for your visit to Bury next year - lots of memories to revisit and I expect you will find many things have changed. Fred, take it easy for a while you have had a long spell of working on top of all the other things you do. Mavis, nothing quite like picking strawberries you've grown yourself. Do you have a big garden? I've just bought a few more plants to try to keep a bit of colour in the garden through the winter. Unfortunately, whilst I was away for two weeks, my pot plants were not watered and now need to be replanted. I have a drain pipe outside my kitchen window and have pots fastened to it so that I have something to look at when I'm washing up. I do hope your friend recovers from the infection, so sad when this happens after coming through the operation. Must go to bed as my eyes are tired. Hope I haven't missed anyone. God bless Love Kathleen |

Hello everyone October already - the weather is getting warmer so much so that this morning I turned the ventilation system from winter to summer. Our son, Craig still lives on Auckland's North Shore is not well at the moment as he has glandular fever - a bit of worry that we are not living closer. Around 9pm on Saturday had a phone call asking Gayle and I to sing in the music team at church on Sunday as one those down was in hospital. I watch a film on TV and advanced the lounge clock an hour for daylight saving. We had a surprise at church this morning when two dear friends from where were living came to the service. One of them has family living in the district. This is the second time that we have friends from our old church visit here and both occasions Gayle and I were in the music team. If you never know who will turn up next. Brenda, hope you had great two weeks away. John |

Morning peeps. Old Fred is getting geared up for tomorrow and the trip up up north wahey lol,off to recharge the batteries and terrify the local fishies hee hee. I was up at six ,to clean my fishes out ,all five of them ,and then got them fed, cleaned the car inside and out, leaving only the tyres ,oil ,and water to check this evening . When i come back i should be within sight of the end to this temporary jog, seeing as bro in law put the last sicknote in Friday, stating that he can return to work in eight weeks . When i come back ,i will arrange for a builder to come out and repoint the gable end of the ghouse seeing as the rest of the brickwork is fine. I am beyond clambering up ladders and scaffolding now although at one time i was doing it everyday,is'e gettin' old ,i is',waaaah ,Mummmmy,it ain't fair, lol. Mary's chalet is looking very forlorn with all the plants gone ,and all the seed trays empty, but it's all swept out and ready for the geranium guttings and seeds to go in.all planed and ready to go,my greenhouse gets used all year round. I now have three pots of rose cuttings [four to a pot] so i should'nt have to bur any roses at all to finish the planting off [hopefully] I will have a treat when i get back too ,in that the corn will be ready,i can taste them already, hot out of the mic'[done in a steamer], with lashings of butter [slurp],the son is welcome to some Kale ,Beetroot, and Tomatoes ,but the corn is mine all mine, hee hee ,seeing as Liz hates it. Well,i am off now peeps ,still loads of packing to do. See you all next week, take care all,Fred. |

We swam in the pool most afternoons after having a good walk, had great walks after dinner and spent the evening chatting and having a few drinks with our friends. We did not walk as much as we normally do due to the heat and the fact that they are doing a lot of improvements to the walkways and a big chunk was closed.John and two of the other chaps went for a game of golf, which they enjoyed ,but would not repeat due to the heat. Hi everyone, Lovely to hear that you had a relaxing holiday Brenda. It does one good to be able to unwind once a year at least. Me, I think I am feeling a bit better. At least I didn't fall asleep in the middle of the afternoon and my mouth is not so swollen or painful as it has been. I do feel awful at having to say 'I am tired' when I know I haven't done much, but am afraid that has been the case lately. We have real Autumn weather here with high winds, even tornados in the south, and rain, thunder, lightning etc.etc. Yes, I really think summer has gone. I hope Fred is enjoying himself and has not blown away. Sylvia xxx |

Evening all,was working til 8pm tonight and then it was phone call after phone call from friends and family so not had much time on here. I am supposed to be getting organised to do some proper searching on certain days then have a half hour each evening to catch up on emails and messages !!!! we will see how it goes. Glad you are feeling better Sylvia,we all need to wind down at times,I am hoping by getting more organised I will not have to catch up so much and therefore have more time nd eventually less tired. Its been more wintery than autumn over here, and the clocks change in three weeks .!! See you all tomorrow,Brenda |

Hi everyone Brr you say Sylvia - NZ is heading into summer but we have had sudden change in the weather heavy rain, slips and flooding in parts of the country. In Auckland two properties a teetering on the cliff and could fall into the sea. As mentioned a few days ago I had turned the ventilation system from winter to summer, well with the weather change I have now reversed it back. It seems this weather comes on when the clocks go forward. Craig is on the mend, had blood tests and was told he was getting better but to be careful. John |

hi brenda and everyone it has been a wonderful indian summer day here in barrie ont canada I just wish it would stay like this all winter, but the ski people will be looking foreward to the heaps of snow we get around here, it is the thanksgiving long week-end this weekend the last big holiday of the year, I am going to my daughter-inlaws family cottage for dinner on sunday with my son and the two boys lindy and my granddaughter are going up earlier as the boys have hockey practice and games saturday and sunday, also my former husband will be joining us as well for dinner , lindys mom always has a crowd over then the cottage is closed for the winter. my friend anne returned to bury on saturday it is quite lonely without her we had such a good time ate too much and laughed a lot, she was happy to see her little dog when she got home, to-night the sunset is wonderful from the 11th floor balcony the colours are beyond discription so I will say bye and goodnight dorothy |

Hi all, Well a bit of a scrappy day, finished off the last bits and bobs of ironing, tidied up my hobby room a little as there was no room for me to sit down any more. This evening we've had our delightful granddaughter here for dinner. The weather has been a mixture of rain and sun, but I didn't have to go out so it didn't matter. I have now been presented with a huge bag of apples, so these will have to be processed for the freezer. Am feeling rather tired now as I missed my little nap after dinner, but Linda comes here at 7.00 pm and we have no time for a nap any more; We usually eat at 5.00 then have time for a nap before the evening begins. See you all tomorrow. Sylvia xxx |

Hi everybody The country is having a cold snap - slips and heavy winds in Auckland and Wellington - here in Taranaki we have rain and cold winds blowing off the mountain. Gayle and I are hoping that the weather is better next weekend for our trip to Wellington for a conference I mentioned a while ago. Craig phoned us five times in two days, obviously missing his Mum and Dad - he is sounding heaps better. Our conservatory still hasn't been started supposed of been last week so here's hoping it happens next week now. I have decided stay with GR for another year. John |

Hello everyone. Like you John I have been trying to decide whether to 'join up' for another year with GR. I have until the end of Nov. Think I will - I would miss it. It has been so cold here the last two days - had the fan heater on this morning at breakfast time until the sun came in the window. Still using our electric blanket too!! Pip had to have a filling on Monday - it is a tooth that has been filled 3 times before - the Dentist is reluctant to extract it due to him being on Warfarin - could have excessive bleeding. Another $180 dollars! Have had a few quiet days - next week will be busy. Off to Putaruru on Sunday for lunch and tea with my daughters parents. Will see their new house which they have had built. Should be finished by the end of the month. It has been built on the top of a high hill - the views are fantastic. Hills and greenery all around. Will miss Di on here - perhaps she will be back when she gets things sorted a little. How is your mouth now Sylvia? Do hope it is better. Take things easy and don't work too hard. There is always tomorrow!! Must go now - regards to you all. Love Mavis NZ |

Hi all, I went to the market today on my scootmobile and got soaked. Ok, I knew we were in for rain, but I had to do some shopping. I think my mouth is slowly improving. It is not so swollen as it was, but food doesn't taste the same at the moment.I have medicine for another 7 days and then I'll have to contact the doctor again. I feel very sorry that Di has taken the decision not to renew her membership. I will miss her immensely, although I haven't contacted her as much as I did in the past I did think about her. I will send her an e-mail soon. Mind you, she made this decision once before and came back - thank goodness. I wonder whether she can really miss us though, I hope not. Will miss all her tales about the kayaks and the dog and the cat etc.etc. It's like losing a sister. Have a nice evening everyone. Sylvia xxx |

Hello Everyone, John hope the weather improves for you ,we have heavy rain and wind tonight ,glad i am not going out,its a good book ,or film on tv and roaring fire night tonight.!!! so pleaesed your son is on the mend as well.Glad you are staying with us as well. Mavis,Di,s dental treatment was going into the thousands i think ,so i suppose Your husband is lucky. My friend has to pay £1050.00 next week to sort out some dental problem she has.She could have some done on the NHS but not all of it and she would have to wait 4 months. So her and her husband are paying private ,and she can have it done next Thursday. They will have to forgo a weeks holiday next year to pay for it.By the way hope you stay on genes as well. Sylvia, glad your mouth is getting better, and like you said, Di may get back one day. Take care Brenda |
