Rosalind in Madeira Report 3 May 2005 22:21

Don't worry Jude, just collected my copy from the library today. Cost me 40p as reserved it over the internet and they had to send it from Bewdley to Redditch. So will start tonight. Jane Austen one is on offer with the You magazine for £3.50 I think. Ros

Unknown Report 10 May 2005 20:40

Hi Mike Started watching the DVD this afternoon. Nobody warned me it was all subtitles, couldn't multi task while I was watching it!!!! It is horrific to watch - will probably go back to it though. The book is SO different Dee xx

Unknown Report 10 May 2005 20:58

Hi Dee, I never knew the dvd was subtitled either. Won't say too much about the book, but got loads to say at review time! Films are always different I usually prefer the books as they're more graphic in detail.

Unknown Report 10 May 2005 23:17

Hi Mike Will have to disagree, you and me The book is far less graphic than the DVD Dee (Even did it in rhyme!!)

Lesley Report 10 May 2005 23:51

Mike I would like to join your book club also but I guess I will wait until next month (June). Can I ask a small question.....who chooses the books?? Looking forward to reading the first reviews in a couple of weeks. Les

Evening GReadies, Les, You are most welcome, its not my book club anyone who wishes to join in can do so- no restrictions here. As for who decides the books- well it sort of went to a list of Titles and we took a vote for the first 2 months BUT am open to suggestions as to how we'll pick the books for future months - any suggestions most welcome as I have NO idea what we're doing! LOL Some have suggested the same enter your book and vote- others have said a list of 6/7 books that you choose to read one?? As I said all suggestions welcome.I'll leave it to you its not up to me anymore? Lord knows I'm struggling on the one I suggested so we must have an alternative read?

Have started Seed and Sower, but came down with a lousy cold so can't concentrate enough at the mo! Have put it to one side until I feel better. It is certainly a book that needs your full attention! In the meantime I am reading 'A Year in the Merde' (yes really! No offense if you know French!) which is the diary of an English bloke who goes to work in Paris. Very funny and doesn't require ANY brain power lol Maz. XX

Hi Maz Know what you mean about 'The Seed and The Sower'. Mind you once I got into it I couldn't put it down Your 'French' book sounds interesting. Another one for my list!!!! Dee x

Lesley

Lesley Report 13 May 2005 02:41

Hi Mike and everyone, Well I don't like to put my oar too far in especially as I have not waded thru any of the books listed so far. I wondered how it might go if on a certain day (say the 20th.of the month)we all recommended a book and voted on all of them, say points between 1 to 10. Then Mike (lol) you could add up the scores and tell us the two/three books that won?? for the upcoming month?? I think I am a bit of a 'lighter' reader than some of the books that you are considering. If I was to recommend one right now I would suggest the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. As I lived thru that era I found it doubly interesting....altho I must admit on a lazy day I am a bit of a chick lit fan and am in awe of Sophie Kinsella!! Oh well, that's me. I have just finished Good Grief by Lolly Winston. Found it to be a warm and humorous look at a devasting subject. Lesxx
