Saw you before Ann and thanks again for your help very much appreciated. The alternative book to A Child Called It is: One Day in The Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Don't shoot me- I'm the messenger lol To clarify again------- JUNE book is A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer and the alternative read is One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This will not change. Thanks to you all it's been a pleasure to start this and hear your views. Will see you here on 23rd May if not before. Happy reading. |

Looking forward to getting started with all of these books and as was said you dont have to read all of them, you can choose the books you like the sound of. Not sure why some have been requested to be removed. I dont fancy some of them but wouldnt want to prevent others from reading them. Its a shame that people aren't going to give David Pelzers book a try. It is very upsetting, heartbreaking etc but if he is big enough to write about his ordeal surely it deserves to be read? A David Pelzer fan xxx |

Just spotted this in a local paper ‘The first in a set of children’s novels has recently hit the shelves. SilverFin, written by Charlie Higson, features a 13 year old James Bond, 007, and his adventures at Eton in the 30’s.’ A book to entice those reluctant young readers, maybe Dee |

Jude, At last- did you get it? Dee, Anything that encourages youngsters is great. I'm fortunate had parents who read and encouraged me to. Has anyone started reading Mr Lawrence yet? I'm just finishing a book I'm reading so will start next week. |

Hi Mike. Ordered my copy for May through work today. I will be reading the 'alternative' June book. I just could not face Dave Pelzer at the moment. Thought you might be interested in this web-site I saw mentioned in a magazine. Not had a chance to look at it yet, but it might give you some tips! www(.)bookgroup(.)info Hope there is something there of use! Maz. XX |

Maz, It's ok lots of greadies don't want to read that book - me included- thats why we have an alternative. And before anyone says it -- yes as a book club we review all. But some for this website have to have respect for peoples feelings? |

I read A child called it when it was serialised in one of the papers and also The Lost Boy which is written by his brother. i found both quite upsetting but well written. Informative to read but you couldn't call either of them enjoyable or relaxing. as I am away for two weeks (should have gone today but have to wait until tomorrow due to Freezer breakdown, I will probably read the sower and the seed but not the second one, I'll have to see when i get back on 14th May, it all depends if they have it at the library. (Did it cost you 70p to get it from another library Jude?) I have so many (2 shelves) of books waiting to be read already. Ann Glos |

Hi Jude I do read quite a lot, usually have a fiction and non fiction on the go. When I mentioned that I had read the Pelzer books I should perhaps have said I read them some time ago. Got all three soon after they came out. Dee x |

Hi Rosalyn Haven't caught any books yet, had a couple 'released' to me but it isn't quite the same. Would love to just find one 'in the wild' so to speak Dee Anyone who knows me knows I'm mad!! But if you don't know me and wonder why I'm looking for 'wild books' you can find out more about 'bookcrossing' on www.bookcrossing(.)com If you are looking for used books Amazon are often quite reasonable, and when you have finished reading them you can sell them on again. |
