Why oh why oh why do mothers do it!! did they ask the baby? did the baby answer back' yes mummy i would love pierced ears i would love a nice lady punching holes in my ears... i will put up with the throbbing then i can pull at them and catch them on something or rip my ears by accident, all because my mummy thinks putting earings in babies ears will make me more pretty' Grrrr... makes me spit! lol.

Hi Em I totally agree with you. I hate seeing babies/young children with earrings in. I always have visions of something awful happening when they're playing.

I know this is an Italian tradition. Personally I would wait until they are at least ten years old. Jo.

I mean... Earings are an enhancement are'nt they... so what baby needs an enhancenent? do people look at the earings first, then the babies faces? rubbish!!

I think its an absolute disgrace. My hubby's sister-in-law had her baby's done when she was 5 months old. We couldn't believe it. Liz

My daughter is 6. I havent had her ears pierced as Its got to be her decision when she is older. She will have to be old enough to be able to look after them herself. Besides, jewelery is not allowed in primary school, and microfibre tape has to be put over earrings during PE. I dont know what policy senior school has, but I know Connie will be at least 11-12 years old minimum if they do accept kids wearing earrings at senior school. And as said, it will be her choice. Alough I think calling ear piercing assult is going a tad far. Elaine x

Em, i will never forget taking my baby to the clinic and seeing a baby girl of about 6months wearing little creole earrings - i was a bit shocked to say the least.

I wonder if the law would react differently if it was a naval piercing on a child and yet they are exactly the same thing!! WORNG ON BABIES!!

Apart from the dangers of it, I think it looks cheap ( my kids think i'm old fashioned) - so be it! Jules. Re Paul's post - I think people who behave like that should of been put down at birth..

Well said Paul... It makes you cringe doesnt it! and no, this is not snobbery its just common sense. I agree Elaine... i got so much flack off my daughters, but i have stuck by my ruling that they had/have to wait until high school before they can have their ears peirced. The eldest 2 have theirs done now ( they were both 12), but Olivia (11) does not want hers done, and Freya does not care anyway! lol

lol, I see a girl in the village with her children... one is a boy aged 2 called Brooklyn..... and has an earing.... Argghhhhh!! her daughter aged 3 is called chantilly.... oh dear :((

Paul Just like to say, don't lump all young earring wearers into the same bracket, most are good nice kids. I had my ears pierced at 13, and never smoked or had a pregnant belly until I was 29 lol. <pregnant at 29, iv'e never smoked lol > <Although I CAN picture the scene you are painting lol )

Hi Elaine, I really do believe it is assault to pierce the ears of a child too young to give consent. If someone pinched the ears of a baby and made her cry that would be classed as assault. Doing it with a staple gun is no different in my eyes. An older child is told that there may be some pain when it is done and that the ears may be tender for some days afterwards. If he/she goes ahead at least he/she is prepared. A baby is happily sitting on its mother's lap when a total stranger staples earrings through his/her ears. Sounds like assault to me. I agree Gwynne i was 16 when my mum allowed me to have mine done.... i did try to impose the same ruling on my daughters... but there is 4 of them... and they gang up on me!! lol.

Have to admit I was left shaking my head when I saw a photo of Beckham's son, Romeo (not his youngest one) sporting a stud in his ear. This wasn't even recently either.
