Morning all ! If I feel strongly about something or a subject I will post what I feel but I dont set out to offend by doing so. But I will try to post in a polite way whilst doing this to try to avoid offending peoples beliefs/feelings. However there is a difference between posting a differing opinion to some people which could offend, and posting with the sole aim to offend or belittle an individual...or in fact posting jokes or material which you know WILL offend, and you put in the title DO NOT READ IF EASILY OFFENDED. Well if you know it will cause upset or offence to some then DONT POST IT ! Because everyone has the right to read posts, warning or not, and its often irresistable when you're told not to read something ! And its a sure fire way for others to voice their upset with it on the thread when they are offended. Paving the way for a all out row when the poster refuses to delete If you know you are posting offending material, then dont be shocked to be asked to remove it. Elaine x

ps Id also like to add. that often posts are not meant to be offensive, but the poster is jumped upon by people making out that the post is something it is not Thats more like the poster not being liked rather than there is a problem with the post in the first place. ~~~~~Waves to David & Lynda ~~~~~~~~ E x

Mornin Lynda:) I think Bo Rap is rhyming slang;)) I think that's it really - if you're just saying what you think and don't mean to offend, I can't see the problem. Asking for opinions and then getting offended with them is getting a bit common isn't it?

Well as someone who disagrees with the poster on a regular basis (lol), I try not to offend people but I did once call peeps Nazis which didn't go down too well - I just hope my apologies were accepted after the event. Debby

taste is a strange creature.........I get very frustrated when some wont take the time to give other styles or eras a chance.......for instance when someone asks me whatmusic do you like......I cannot answer....I stumble ,stutter, and say all kinds....and when I say all kinds,I really mean it.......I think the only thing that links them all is the musical aspect or melody, but nevertheless the following list of mine hasnt changed in 15 years and is added to every now and then. 1)Vaughan Williams- Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis- you have to hear it to believe it-you need to have it on full bore with a glass of red or malt in your hand, looking out on an uninterupted landscape, with the sun low ,chest out ,shoulders back, eyes shut.. ... 2)Faures Requiem- parts were used in the last episode of Morse when he was dying -the male solo by one of the university tutors is from it.Snippets ive spoted used for background music.Even Westlife nicked one of the melody lines, and adapted it to oboe, for a background theme, totally plaigirised..... 3)Female solo in mozarts Requiem. 4)Erik Satie-various works 5)The Doors-great voice and tracks like riders on a storm and this is the end. 6)The Beatles-Eleanor Rigby, lady Madonna, strawberry Fields,Norwegian Wood, let it be. 7)Nick Drake- Five Leaves Left album in particular-wish hed lived longer(sister is actress Gabriella Drake)A few of his tracks have been used in heartbeat-wrongly so as they were writen in a different decade to the era portrayed, but i reckon someone got to hear his stuff and was determined to slip it in, 8)Dylan 9)Carole King 10)Joni mitchell-a lot of albums-Blue in particular 11)Dougie MacClean 12)John martyn 13)The old family favourites that were on the radio ....the ones you hear that have upbeat orchestral arrangements, and are played when showing old railway journey footage. 14) Jerusalem- 15)The soundtracks to shows like Bless this house and Robins nest- they evoke some sort of optimism and cheerfulness- 16)System of a Down-chop suey( on my own with cheap furniture in a padded room, without a care in the world- I turn into son of the dark one !) 17)Deep purple and its offspring- 18)Jethro Tull 19)Fairport Convention(they discovered Nick Drake) 20)Blondie 21)Music from Betty Blue (32 degrees in the morning)-gabriel yared- mixture of french style and modern arrangements- a real mix-and often used unknown to most in background to some very mundane TV.

I did that once too Debby but luckily I get on well with the member now - she and I both get a bit stroppy about things and they escalated that time:)

I agree Alter - I think I enjoy music of all types excepting thrash, which just doesn't appeal to me. I have liked a lot of the same music for a long time and my 'all time favourites' list is massive - a bit influenced by my age but not only. Someone sent me a circular thing recently where I had to list my top 10 and of course as soon as I'd done it I had to mail back and change them a bit lol. Different ones for different moods I suppose. Have to say I don't know all of those on yr list but I do love Blondie, Mozart, Jerusalem and some of the Dylan that I know. Like a Rolling Stone stuns me every time I hear it. Not soooo keen on the Beatles but I do like a few - Eleanor Rigby, Let It Be, Yesterday and We Can Work It Out. Oh and Twist and Shout. So quite a few then - but they don't *really* stir me.

Good morning, David. Lovely sunny day here. ... :-) No, I don't think I worry about offending others by my opinions. I like to read debates - and participate, if I think I can add something useful. I was out all day yesterday until late evening, so I have some catching up to do with reading threads. Have a good day, :-) Joy

I would recommend number one to anyone- just give it a go- it really stirs the soul and then some more......but there again ,we are all a bit like radio stations on a very broad band width, with different wavelength requirements :-)

Someone else has just said to me that they're worried about posting opinions on here for fear of offending - I think that's so sad but - to be fair - there are people on here who would be offended if they met a man called Dick. Alter - I will have a look through my classical compilation cds and see if I've got it - lol (I'm that classy;))

The only time I take offence is when some one makes personal comments about people on here, if they just comment on their own opinions about a subject then ok, but personal comments, then I think they should keep them to them selves. Bev

Hello No 1 I think I'm one of the few people who didn't have a problem with AB and I agree that people often took him the wrong way if they could although he did like to stir things up:) Didn't you used to be Budgie Rustler? If so, I can remember you being slated because of a word you used for a group of people. There was no other way to take the word you used in that case - the use of the word was offensive. But I do understand yr point and as I have said, I think some people are looking to be offended. pmsl Alter. I knew I shouldn't have said that;) In my defence, buying them has enabled me to identify my tastes and buy proper cds afterwards lol

People come from all walks of life and have differing opinions, life would be very boring if we all agreed all the time. I do take umbrage at the fact that a core group of people on GR (the members that have been on here awhile) do tend to (for want of a better word) interrogate some newer members. I myself had this the other evening. To my mind that is just not on, no matter what has happened to them on here in the past. I was extremley miffed at one member who questioned the fact that I didn't want to use my birth name on here, this person went on to post names on my thread. I do not want my personal details splashed across these boards for all to see. That is really NOT on. Regards, Adam
