Hello All
Sat thinking of lovely DIZZI and all her family and friends who are gathered now to say a fond farewell to such a very special lady today. Dizzi was funny and brave and an inspiration to many folk, and she will be missed here, yet remembered with much fondness.
Rest In Peace lovely DIZZI....... free from all tests and pain now.
Going to light a candle for DIZZI xxx

Evening all :-)
Quiet day today, we watched England win at cricket and Hamilton get pole.
OH expected a sore back today after sitting on horrible chairs again. He got up feeling far better than he thought he would. May go out tomorrow night now, we'll see tomorrow. Very good night last night again.
Still shaken over Dizzi's death, just still hasn't sunk in properly. At least she was happy on her mobility scooter and looking forward to using it. You're missed Dizzi <3 <3 <3

Hello All Roll Callers
It is strange not having Dizzi and her CAPITAL LETTER POSTINGS ON HERE. It has been interesting reading what others who managed to go to the funeral yesterday thought of Dizzi's farewell service. It all sounded special just like she was.
Pat, we also watched the England v New Zealand cricket match and were both happy to see England pull up their socks and win this game. Hubby used to got to Riverside Durham to watch the International matches but that was several years ago now and so it was good to sit in the comfort of our home and enjoy the action (especially a win!).
It has seemed like a long day today and so we are both ready for bed. I haven't seen the weather forecast so just hope that tomorrow will be a little bit warmer.
I hope that everyone is feeling well and will enjoy a happy day tomorrow.

Good Early Morning Roll Callers :-D :-D <3
As you can see by the time on this post, I am up and about when I should be in the land of nod! :-| :-D I have been awake most of the night and downstairs since before 5am, and so I thought I would catch up with all the "goings on" on GR! ;-):-D :-D
I'm sad to say that I didn't know Dizzi very well :-( I was only just starting to get to know her when she first posted Roll Call. I, like you all, have been reading the wonderful tributes to her on the different threads. She was a very special lady and will be very missed by all her very many friends<3
Nothing hugely interesting to report unfortunately!
We won the Pub Quiz again on Thursday Evening! :-D :-D :-D The usual winner again came second, but I managed to avoid him afterwards this time! If his reaction the week before was anything to go on, I am beginning to wonder if it's wise to compete again! :-0 :-D :-D :-D I can''t help myself, I am very competitive, but I would also like to hope that I am a good sport too!
:-)PAT What a fantastic life you are having in Cyprus. I see you are really enjoying your nights out, they all sound great :-) I hope your OH's back is ok today :-) :-) :-)
:-)KANDJ According to Daughter, Granddaughter 1 did manage to sit the exam. At least I'm hoping she did :-| :-D They have an alarm. Granddaughter 2 in the same room gets up, but GD1 refuses to budge! Or she makes excuses! And she used to be such a good girl :-( :-D
I was sorry to hear that you and your OH are not in good health and that it affects how much you can do. I know that that can be very frustrating at times :-(
I also love looking at the fashions at Ascot and the Royal Procession :-)

I do speak Welsh, but not fluently, sadly. My Father was first language Welsh but my mother was from Kent, so he decided that we would all speak English. The older I am getting, the more I feel I missed out. I can follow along with colloquial Welsh, but as no one around me speaks Welsh (OH is Irish) I haven't got the opportunity to talk it and so I have never built up confidence with it. I find it easier to translate from Welsh to English.

Hello All
Today is Fathers' Day so wishing a Happy Fathers' Day to all Dads for today.
It is also the Longest Day and officially the start of Summer although you wouldn't think so as its cool and windy here today. Hopefully it can only get better.
The Summer Solstice was traditionally celebrated by many folk who gather at Stonehenge in Wiltshire. The sunrise is welcomed and celebrations began at 4.57am Jem, so you could have joined in this morning being such an early bird!
Congratulations yet again on winning the pub quiz Jem, of course you should enter next Thursday, it sounds a fun thing to do and a good evening out. The previous winner will have to realize others are entitled to join and he must just accept it.
Pat, I hope your OH back pain is less so that he can relax and join in the many invitations that are keeping you busy right now. You both are obviously very popular
We watched Andy Murray win two matches at Queens Club today. In the semi-final he beat Viktor Troiki 6-3, 7-6, (7-4) and in the final game he beat Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-4 so it was a delighted Andy Murray who held the Queens Cup up high today Fingers crossed that Andy will do as well in Wimbledon starting soon.

Evening all :-)
Early night tonight it's only 23.35 as I start this. :-D
It was 27 C today but a very cool wind again, needed my jacket tonight as it got cool sitting out with the wind.
OH's back is much better thank you Kandj.
Well done Jem, ignore the previous winner, if he's not able to beat you it's his fault not yours. Just show him who's best :-D Hope you have a better night tonight. I know that feeling well.
Well diary is getting full. It's a BBQ tomorrow, Chinese buffet Tuesday, maybe a curry night Wednesday, meal and Karaoke Thursday, ? over Friday. Flaming tourists want to go out all the time, goodness it's hard work enjoying yourself out here ;-)

Hello All
Wet and windy weather today. It started out bright enough and I put a full line of clothes out on the clothesline and I took my eye off the rain clouds hovering around which was a silly thing, because next time I looked out of the window it was pouring with rain and the clothes were wetter than ever, hey ho. I should have known better!
Your going to be very busy out and about Pat so fingers crossed that the seating in various venues will be comfortable and not cause your OH back problem to flare up. Your week sounds good. No cooking at home by the sounds of all the meals out.
I hope everyone is well and keeping busy. The weather is forecast to be warm and dry generally tomorrow, so I do hope that is right. Enjoy it all whatever is planned.

Good Evening Roll Callers :-) :-) <3
It's been a pleasant day here weather wise. Warm and breezy.
I went to town today to pay bills, and came home with 3 pairs of shoes:-S :-0 :-0 I needed a pair of comfortable shoes to run about in, and couldn't decide what would go with what, as none of them went with everything!!
Half an hour later, I still couldn't make up my mind and as the shop was about to close, and I ended up with the 3 pairs, on the understanding that I could take them back!
I'm still not sure :-S :-S :-D I should have realised, that if I had that much problem deciding, something wasn't right with them all, and I should not have bought any of them! :-( :-D
Just as well I don't go into town often :-D :-D :-D
:-)PAT You are going to be very busy with your social whirl this week! I hope you are enjoying / have enjoyed your BBQ this evening, and the rest of the week will be fun :-) I'm glad your OH's back is much better now:-).
:-)KANDJ Don't you just hate it when that happens with rain and washing! Sometimes, when I've been caught like that, and I say to OH, "Why didn't you tell me it's raining, cos the washing is out?" He'll say "I thought you knew"!!!!! :-| :-| :-| :-D
Congratulations to Andy on his win!:-) I don't really follow tennis much, but OH was watching it.

Evening all. :-)
Great evening again. Chinese tomorrow, OH has said he wants a day off on Wednesday so curry may be next week. He's trying to be sensible about his back - it's about time :-D.
It was 27 C again today but that wind is about. :-(
Have found money in OH's tree, unfortunately it's his gt gt grandmother's family and she didn't marry that well so the money stops at his gt gt gt grandfather. :-( Oh well can't go cap in hand there. ;-) They were even Freemen of the City of London, all the males were members of the Worshipable Company of Haberdashers. Will have to keep on looking.
Hope you get good weather tomorrow Kandj. Don't you know you have to sneak out the house with your wet clothes and hope no one is watching as you peg out and then you'll get all dried before it rains. If you are spotted they send the rain. Have you got foliage that will hide you, if not get planting. ;-)

Hello All Roll Callers,
Not great weather wise...... whatever has happened to the three months heatwave that was forecast? They obviously got it very wrong!
No more tree or shrub planting any more here Pat. Been there, done that, very many years ago and now I have a job to keep them all looking tidy. I have decided that I am too old to be balancing on the top of stepladders any more and will pay to have trees and shrubs lobbed off and shaped up later in the Autumn.
Jem, I know what you mean about the rain and taking eyes off the outside and then down comes the wet stuff and a need to count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Hey, ho. I just hate bringing clothes inside wetter than when I first pegged them out.
Perhaps you could pass your 3 new pairs of shoes over to Pat? With all the traipsing around Pat is doing she must be wearing her own shoes out, ha ha I just found a shoe repair service in the village precinct just two streets away that I had no idea was there (it is an extra service inside a dry cleaners shop). I have had two pairs of very comfortable leather shoes re-heeled and am a happy bunny because they will last for a long time as I'm not at all heavy on shoes. I got last years sandals out and find its too chilly, so they're back in bottom of the wardrobe.
A button came off the top of my blouse this morning and so I sewed it back on but it took me ages to simply thread the needle first. Another sign old age is galloping on!

Morning all :-)
Crawled into bed at 2am :-0. Great night though. :-D
Quiet night in tonight, out tomorrow again. OH's back a bit sore last night so he'll be glad of a rest today. It's much better than a couple of weeks ago.
Daughter's DNA has thrown up 919 possible relatives on the data base. She's now handed the account over to me as family historian to track them down. She's very excited and now getting interested in the family tree. She had a vague interest and if I found anything news worthy she was interested but didn't seem to relate it to herself - now it's become about her and her relations not dad and mum's relations. :-D
Jem I am only a size 3 shoe and when I found a shoe that was comfortable I often bought 3 colours to go with everything. I've recently found some comfortable and attractive sandals, I now have white, pale fawn (they say nude) red and navy. I don't buy shoes often as I hate wearing them and this time of the year only wear them when out as I go barefoot at home. The winter shoes I threw away last November were 14 - 15 yrs old, the leather had given up the ghost. Never been mended, I'm not heavy on shoes and always polish them so they are protected. There just comes a time when there's nothing you can do. Same happened at the end of last summer, I had 6 pairs of sandals, worn over 9 months of the year, 4 pair were 9 years old and all past their sell by date and out they went as I started wearing winter shoes. The other 2 pair were 4 years old and ok so they are my shopping/ daytime shoes. :-)
In UK the newspapers still believe you can do long range weather forecasts - ask the weather people and they'll tell you it's impossible. The people who do look at the present pattern and match it to previous years and tell you the probable result - the newspapers then headline either summer washout or what a scorcher. I always judged the day from the previous evening's local weather forecast and looking out when I got up. In UK I never took weather for granted. Always had an umbrella and a jacket in the car during summer. :-(
Trouble with going out a lot is you wear 2 outfits per day so had 2 loads of washing yesterday and today I've got to do the ironing. :-S
It's 24 C and very windy, next door's cat, Mozart, has just arrived telling me something very loudly and plonked himself down on the floor near me. He doesn't like the wind so that's very likely what he was saying. :-D

Hello All
Just a quick message as it's very late for me. Usually tucked up in bed ages ago.
We went to do shopping today. Usually prefer Mondays when its quieter but had to wait in for an electrician to sort out the lounge light fitting. We had barely got out of the road and the car began beeping.... I looked at the dashboard and it had nothing (usually says the door isnt shut properly) and so I carried on checking the petrol and oil/water gauge and all were fine..... it unnerved me, but when I pulled into the supermarket car park and went to get the shopping bags out of the boot of the car I found that the car boot door wasnt fastened. On our way home all was silent..... no beeping at all, such a relief too, but now I am wondering why this didnt register on the dashboard earlier!
Pat I used to take a size 3 shoe but now I find a size 4 is much more comfortable. We used to have 2 shoe shops in our village but we haven't any, hence another reason that I was happy to have my shoes heeled recently so I didnt have to go into town to buy any new ones.
Our niece is at Glastonbury and the weather is dry and sunny but I think that will all change by the weekend. She has taken wellingtons and waterproof clothes but she is young enough not to worry about trudging around ankle deep in mud and will enjoy being at the festival for the first time after following it on TV or radio for years.
I hope you all enjoy yourselves tomorrow whatever you are planning to do.

Good Afternoon Everyone :-) :-) <3
The sun is shining here. Although it's cloudy, and now and again it looks as though it may rain, it clears up again. It's warm- 23 degrees in the car.
I had a lovely afternoon Tuesday. On a whim, I decided to go to my home villlage again. So I left the family to their own devices, and went all on my own. Sometimes you just need a break, I think! :-D
As usual, when I reach the top of the steep hill that leads down to my village, and I catch sight of the estuary and the village across from it with it's old castle, I know that I'm home! http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/16369428
First I had an egg sandwich and cup of tea in a fold-up chair by the beach. Then I went for my usual walks.
The first one past the front of my old house around the block, passing the back of my old house and back to the square, Enjoying a tub of "Joe's" Icecream (vanilla with chocolate swirl sauce) while I walked! :-)
When I reached the square again, I spotted a very old and dear friend, who sadly is in really poor health now. He was in a mobility scooter he'd borrowed. He can't walk far now, as he has serious heart problems. :-( I haven't seen him for a lot of years, so we had a hug and a good catch up! :-)
I carried on my walk over the "Cliff" that overlooks the oldest part of the village which then drops down and eventually meets the end of the village leading back to the square.
Another cuppa and then a final walk over the dunes and the beach!
A really lovely day! :-)
I'm off out tonight for our dinner in the local and the Pub Quiz!!! :-D :-D :-D

It's brilliant that your daughter has now also got the "Bug" that we family historians all suffer from, since doing her DNA. It's lovely when you can share exciting bits of information. My family are not that interested. I did think it would be something to bring us closer, but I fear they think I'm an obsessed bore! :-D :-D :-D
I'm sorry that your OH did not get to inherit the crown jewels after all, Pat!;-) ;-) :-D :-D It does sound fascinating! I shall look up "Worshipable Company of Haberdashers" when I get the chance!
:-)KANDJ The local shoe repairers was a good find! :-) If something is comfortable and has served you really well, it makes sense to get them repaired. Newer ones are not nearly as well made these days.
I wore one of my 3 bought pairs on my walk. A sort of raspberry/pinky muted colour sandals. They were soooo comfortable. The other 2 pairs I'm still undecided about!
I know what you mean about feeling unnerved when you don't quite know what's the matter. Our car makes a loudish noise sometimes. I notice it when I pull up to my daughter's, and stop to talk quickly with the window down, without switching the engine off! OH pooh pooh's it! :-| :-|Then I have to tell whoever has heard it, to tell him too!

Jem, your day out sounds brilliant. A great way for you to recharge your batteries and the link shows lovely green scenery like in How Green Was My Valley, thanks for that Good Luck to you when you enter the pub quiz....... perhaps you will win again??
Pat, are you still checking the calendar so that you don't miss any invitations. It's good that your daughter is now interested in ancestors, Lots of research needed so you will be kept busy I think.
A fairly sunny and warm day today, so was a change to wear something nice and light and cheerful. Rain is forecast for tomorrow and weekend so a quick Summer!
Road works taking place in and around the village which is causing hold-ups. They seem to be resurfacing the main road through the village and putting chippings down. Don't like it because they are sure to mark the paintwork on the car.
Hope all Roll Callers are well, and I'll will wish you all Goodnight now.

Evening all. :-)
Not out tonight. Last night we had a great night, 12 went to a tavern, we had a great meal and chat. 6 of us then went on to the club where there was a karaoke night. Had great fun there and ended up in an eightieth birthday party celebration there. Crawled into bed at 02.30. OH had drunk enough wine that he didn't feel his back very much :-D. He wasn't too mobile first thing but it did improve during the day. He's drunk quite a bit of water today ;-)
Jem we enjoyed our Chinese thank you. Sounds a lovely time on your day out. There are times when you want to be in your own and do your own thing, glad you enjoyed it.
Kandj I have a diary and I keep it near the phone :-D
28 C high today but that cool wind was about again should have heard everyone complaining about our weather last night :-(

Hello All
Rain here today but should be fine tomorrow.... or that's the forecast and then rain again on Sunday. What's happened to our Summer? still the rain means a job less for me as I don't need to water the lawns and tubs (ever the eternal optimist me, ha ha).
Pat, you do have some great nights out. I'd no idea that karaoke was still going on, just shows what a sad life I lead!! So what songs did you sing in the wee small hours of the morning then? I had to smile as the wine obviously anesthetized your hubby's back pain. Perhaps he can get it on prescription!!
Not a lot going on here today. Too wet to do any gardening so I cleared a couple of drawers out, no idea why I kept old receipts from years ago but they're all gone now
We will have new neighbours across the road soon as the bungalow opposite has been sold after our friendly neighbour sadly died. Now everyone is wondering who will move into the road and hope they will be nice and pleasant folk.
Time for bed now for us (don't have the stamina of Pat and her OH), so it's Goodnight and God bless to all Roll Callers for now, and hope everyone sleeps well.

Morning all. :-)
Had a very quiet day yesterday and worked on my family tree. Didn't seem to get very far as I finished with more hints than I started with. I'm working on my father's maternal line. I've had a problem with this. My grandma's parents were William and Harriet Cooper. Lucky due to the area he was born found him with his parents and found their marriage and parentage. Unfortunately Harriet lived away from his village in a populated area nearby where there was a lot of work. I found more than 1 William Cooper marriage to a Harriet in the correct area/time span. Had to send for grandma's birth cert. Harriet Haywood was gt grandma's name. There were 2 born same area , same year even same quarter?????? 2 fathers were Joshua and Samuel so I sent for William and Harriet's wedding cert. Started on the Haywoods with father Samuel suddenly I've got just over 300 hints so sat down yesterday just after lunch and worked up to dinner time and started again after dinner and worked until almost 11 pm. Found the 2 Harriets were cousins, am back to late1770s and coming forward with Samuel's siblings. When I left it last night I had 328 hints left :-0. Think I've still got a lot of work to do. :-(
It's 25 C , windy and the sun's hiding behind cloud. It's still not a normal summer here. You're going to get a few warm days aren't you?

Hello All
It rained throughout the night and this morning is a lot cooler than yesterday with more rain expected for today. It is a strange Summer and I never know how to dress when its warm one day and cold the next day. Yes Pat, we are forecast to have a heat wave but its only meant to last a couple of days so it is nothing to get too excited about really.
Pat your family history looks like keeping you busy for quite some time. It's irritating to hit a brick wall but exciting when it eventually all comes together, like jigsaw puzzle
Not a lot happening today, just reading the newspapers but such awful headlines of the ISIS terrorist attack on the beach in Tunisia. What is happening to our world??!!

I have been up all night with a family crisis involving a very naughty Granddaughter 1 (15) who has put enormous strain on her poor Mum. Mum is already coping with a toddler who is very unwell since picking up a nasty bug at his new nursery, which Granddaughter 4 (7) also has! :-( :-(

Afternoon all. :-(
:-( This is how I feel at the moment. Had some terrible news late last night. Our ex next door neighbour contacted us just after we got back last night. Had a good night at the club with friends. Thought it was something about their trip out here at the end of next month. Turned out very different to that. Although his name has not been released a man who lived 5 houses from us in UK died in Tunisia. The man was in his 50's and he was shot whilst shielding his wife, their son was still in the hotel. Wife and son are back in UK. There is nothing in the press naming him so believe wife has asked for it to be withheld, maybe relatives don't know or she doesn't want the media about. I'm not naming them as this goes out into the public domain.
Am quite shaken by it. Know about terrorists and their activities I was in WRAF at the start of the IRA troubles and OH in RAF and working for MOD all his working life and we were targets all through the so called troubles. Funny we never knew anyone killed or injured then. Perhaps because I was prepared then and this came out of the blue that I'm so shaken up. It's not as if we knew them well, said hello in the street and swapped Christmas cards that's all.
On another subject - did our DNA today and sent it off so we'll find out more about our ancestors and will sort our daughter's cousins into the correct side of the family. She has 3 adopted people asking for help in her group so we'll be able help them by pointing them towards which ever of us link to them. It may narrow down their search, who knows.
