:-D
Morning Dizzi.

I used to listen to 5 Live during the night when I had problems, it had the same effect. Started listening then after a few minutes I'd be asleep. I'd wake up to them talking about a different subject then off to sleep again, heard lots of starts to discussions and endings of other discussions but never a discussion all the way through :-)

Didn't see the sun once yesterday, today it's sunny but the wind is very blustery and we're getting the hibiscus flowers ripped off the hedge. :-( It's 17 C so you could be warmer than us today. :-S

Morning Dizzi :-)

I know the feeling. I didn't sleep properly for years, it made me feel like a Zombie. Used to go to sleep ok but kept waking up every hour or so never got any quality sleep. Thought it was the menopause as that's when it started. Turned out I had sleep apnoea. That's been sorted so I'm ok now. You have my sympathy because I know how you feel because of sleep deprivation.

We had a young man, born in the village I last lived in, who liked to acquire other people's property. He got a short prison sentence for steeling from ours and the next village. He decided he'd better live in a bigger place so he wasn't known when he got out of jail. What he forgot was it was policed by the same station as his home village. Burglaries went up in that area so the police pulled him in and searched his place. No stolen things there. Last time he'd hired a garage and kept the stolen items there until he could sell them. The police questioned him for a little while then let him go. He thought he'd got away with it, so confident was he that he went straight to where he had stashed the goods. Problem for him was the police were smarter than him and put a tail on him. He was caught when he opened up his new rented garage. Last I heard he was still in jail. Some are so stupid but we must be thankful for that as that's how they get caught.

You don't know the Hatton Garden heist people do you? :-D They may have a few pounds to share. :-)

How did you get on at the auction place?

Morning Dizzi, :-)

Had a good time last night. I was up early, I did some washing, very cold putting it out. Temp was only 12C and there's a biting wind. I then watched qualifying in the formula 1 from China before opening my laptop.

We are now listening to Treasure Hunt from Radio York and having a cup of tea. It's very quiet at the moment as it's Easter weekend here. Tonight at midnight it's bonfires and fireworks, tomorrow it'll be non stop eating for the locals.

Looks like you had a warm day yesterday as you easy beat us but looks different today. Wish it would warm up here we're all complaining about how cold it is.

Shame you haven't found something worth a small fortune to auction but I hope you hear some good news on what you left there. :-)

Morning Dizzi :-)

Went to bed at 1 am. Didn't go out last night. I'm afraid the bonfires were more like bonsmoke as we had 2 big downpours during the evening. Bangers all went off though.

Up just before 8. The 3rd lot of washing now in and two lots out drying. It got down to 8 C during the night so only 14 C at the moment. Cold breeze again.

Have watched the Chinese Grand Prix. Very much a parade for the top drivers. Poor Jensen Button is not in a very good car at the moment and he had a little bit of a bump.

Have upstairs to do today as our visitors return Tuesday evening and may want to bring things back tomorrow. That's why I'm washing today

Out this evening as there's entertainment at the club.

Two lots of friends on holiday out here are going back on Tuesday so we're having a bit of a do tomorrow night.

It's hard to keep up but we manage it :-D.

Morning Dizzi :-)

Hope all goes well today with your appts.

I start to flag in the afternoon but then I get 2nd wind. They are all such good company that it's late before we realise it.

Had a good night last night. Tonight it's the going away do for Gerri and Alan and Paul and Nicola. There's going to be 11 eating but a couple are coming in to have a drink with us prior to us eating, they have a small child so it's a drink then back home with daughter.

Russ and Brenda will be back with us from tomorrow after they take Gerri and Alan to Larnaca airport. Russ and Brenda go back to UK the middle of next week. They return early June to dog and cat sit for a friend so we've got a few weeks before it starts up again. They are staying until September then.

Bedding out on the line and now I've got to do the ironing from yesterday :-(

Oh well, can't all be party time - can it? :-D

Have 3 friends with that, 1 just has to be careful when he has a cold that it doesn't go on his chest. Another has a few bad days a year, the other is on lots of medication and is always saying he's got problems with his breathing.

Seems to be a general term with a huge range from those who have very little problem to those who are on oxygen.

Hope yours isn't too bad. x

Morning Dizzi :-)

OH's aunt told us after her husband's death when she was in her mid 70s she was decluttering as she kept everything. She had OH down as executer and it would be up to us to dispose of all that was in the house - they didn't have children. She only had a very small house and downstairs was kept very neat. Lots of ornaments about though. She died in her mid 80s. I would have hated to see the place upstairs before she decluttered. :-D. There were 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a sitting room and a kitchen that's all. It took both of us 5 days to clear out upstairs. We then went back home and returned for the funeral. Told all those who came back to the house after the funeral they could have anything they saw as a memento of her. They all took, except 1, an ornament. The lady who didn't was her gardener and she went out to the garden and took a couple of small plants and some cuttings, she asked us first if it was ok. The ornaments left and the complete dinner sets then went to a charity shop.

Many other things had already gone to the charity shop. The house was sold to a young man who was just starting on the property ladder. He had no furniture or crockery so we left him some really old fashioned furniture and all the remaining pieces of crockery left over from incomplete sets, all very old but it would do until he could afford to replace them. We did ask him, if it was still in good nick, to donate the furniture either to social services a charity which he said he would do. He was very grateful for the help.

I think you're right in what you're doing, things we cherish may mean nothing to whoever is left. If you can turn them into money to use for something else all well and good. With OH's aunt's possessions I thought it was awful throwing so many memories away but they weren't our memories. OH went through hundreds of photos. Most were thrown away as they were pictures of scenery etc from holidays. The family pictures he kept.

We have moved quite a few times and we always have the great throw out each time, trips to the charity shops and the tip. We all collect so much. I started giving away lots of paperbacks but for some reason they all came back when they'd finished reading them - they didn't want the clutter either. :-

It's hard to do but OH has a rule - haven't used/worn it in 5 years out it goes.

Hope you do well in your sale. :-)

Afternoon Dizzi :-)

Friends back here again. They've just gone out. Went shopping very early this morning as I was the only one up. No one in the shop, straight round the supermarket and home in 30 minutes. All stashed away before anyone up.

Out tonight, local tavern, had a Chinese last night :-D

Weather warming up 22 C today, had breakfast outside on the front patio. Wind still a little coolish but not nearly as strong as it was. Will soon be summer. :-)

Afternoon Dizzi :-)

Yes it all goes quiet. At first you think peace at last then it's not another night in ;-).

They come back the beginning of June so it'll only be quiet for a few weeks. Lots of times the phone rings and someone will be on the other end saying they've booked their flights to come and see us then it's all change again. :-S

We enjoy having people. We do lay the law down - we do not go visiting tourist areas all the time. They have to get a hire car if they want to do the tourist bit everyday. Can you imagine week after week going to the same areas to do a tourist tour talk and not be paid - I don't think so. I am not cooking every night, we've plenty of restaurants and we share the bill.

Seems harsh at first but all our friends have had no problem with it. We did it because we know someone who invited lots of relatives and friends out. They took them all around the island doing the tourist bit and started to hate the place. They catered most nights and spent a fortune each summer on food, drink and petrol. They went back to UK as they'd spent too much here :-S

Our idea works and we have a great time, or is it our friends and relatives are nicer people and don't expect us to be at their beck and call. :-D

PatinCyprus Report 17 Apr 2015 10:44

Morning Dizzi :-)

We've been here nearly 10 years so if we hadn't got it sussed perhaps we'd be on our way back to UK :-(

We have friends who several times went to the Canaries with neighbours. He started to get really fed up. The neighbours were like shadows, everywhere they went or just even if they just stayed by the pool the neighbours wanted to do the same. The neighbours expected our friend to hire and drive a car for them all. The neighbours both drove but wouldn't drive there and as our friend wanted to hire a car to see the place they'd just go along and so didn't need to help pay for the car or petrol.

The neighbours started looking again for their hols with our friends. OH told friend to book a holiday fast. Our friends had always wanted to see Australia and were now in a position to go, so they booked it and neighbours were told. They were OK with it as it was seen as a 1 off. Next year the neighbours started looking again to go with our friends. Then 1 day the female neighbour started arguing with our female friend. Our friend didn't know what she was going on about so walked away. They haven't spoken since. Friend's still bewildered, she doesn't know what it was all about but they don't have to think about hols with them anymore, they both regret ever going on hols with the neighbours.

It's best to do your own thing during the day and enjoy the evenings together. It gives you something to talk about. :-D
