I've been looking (again) at the file I was sent (about OH's nephew's partner's family).

We're related on her father's side (going back to Robert The Bruce)........

Her mother's side goes back to William The Conquerer!

Referendum 18 Sep:
Everyone is entitled to their own view on the Yes/No Independance campaign

I found this today and think it is extremely well written and thought provoking.

Go J.K !

On the subject of the Yes/No Independence Campaigns, the three main UK political parties, Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrats, say they are all united behind the "we are all better together" message - I find that amusing because they all dislike each other :-D

Dermot

Dermot Report 12 Jun 2014 16:43

I was wondering when the new Water Cannons might be put into use.

JK Rowling has been invited by Boris Johnson to test them on the England/Scottish border (wherever that is!) - with barrels facing north or south - I know not.

I suspect her answer will still be 'no'.

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 12 Jun 2014 22:44

Odd thing re that Border.....

Mr Salmond and his party insist that with an Independence, there would still be free movement between Scotland and the rest of the UK
After all, there are no borders between Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland.

However...
The White Paper, states an independant Scotland would wish to introduce alterations to it's current immigration policy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, if Scotland has a different immigration policy to the rest of the UK.... that would mean borders??

Scotland at its best:

A few years back, we had friends from Australia come to stay with us for a few weeks
During their stay, we were able to show them round various parts of Scotland, and even visited places on our own doorstep that we just never got around to.

After they left, OH and I realised that there are so many places in our own country that we have never visited ourselves
We decided to take less holidays overseas and spend time here instead.

We have just returned from one of the best trips ever!
Island-Hopping ---Western Isles

Set out from Glasgow to Mallaig where we took the ferry to Skye.
After a short stay, we took another ferry for a 3 night stay on Harris.
From this base we toured Harris and Lewis and the highlight was an incredible day trip to St Kilda ( how those people lived!).
We left Harris and yet another ferry took us to the island of Berneray.
We drove down through N.Uist, Benbecula, S Uist and finally to Eriskay where the next ferry took us to Barra and Vatersay where we stayed for another couple of days

We returned earlier today after a 6hr sailing from Barra to Oban.

The scenery, the beaches, the wildlife and... the sunshine were wonderful.
"Yours Truly" even climbed to the top of Ben Heaval... highest hill on Barra.

We are already thinking of where to go on our next trip!

GlasgowLass <3 I am not normally given to jealousy but reading about your wonderful trip did make me feel a teeny weeny bit envious as I have always had a great love of the Western Isles :-)

What a wonderful trip, Glasgow Lass.

Why people spend hours at Airports and in planes when they can see so much of their own Country, baffles me.

Rab C Nesbit, Foggy - just one of the many different aspects of Scotland>

Nudging :-D

Don't want this thread to get lost!

I'd love to hear stories from Scots, about what's going on in Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games...... stories those of us not in the UK probably won't hear about.

:-)
