GlasgowLass - No need to share it so I should appreciate you keeping the snow up there in Glasgow :-D

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 19 Nov 2013 08:01

I'll try OFITG!
The snow only lasted for about half an hour last night and left a good dusting on the ground and it froze... solid!

Dropped dau No 3 for a train at 7.20am ( minus 3 degrees) and it took best part of 15 minutes to defrost and scape the solid ice off the car windows
Brrrrrr

Morning all,

Light covering of snow here in Aberdeen this morning.

The sun is shining and blue sky so not too bad.

Stay warm all.

Emma :-)

Beautiful day here in D&G - blue skies and sunshine; cold, but with the sun it's not too bad. A light dusting of snow down here on the coast but the hills are well covered. Rather have this than rain!

One for all the Rabbie Burns fans - A pocket watch belonging to poet Robert Burns which contains a note from his wife has sold at auction for £39,650.

The silver-cased watch dating to 1786 far surpassed its valuation of £2,500 when it went under the hammer in Edinburgh.

It contains a paper insert featuring bird and heart motifs and the ink initials of his wife Jean Armour.

Colin Fraser, of auctioneers Lyon and Turnbull, said bids for the watch had come from across the globe.

We must be having storm season instead of spring :-(

Lots of thunder & lightning over the last three weeks, but the last couple of days have been nice... sunny & mid 20s C....... more thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow.

I don't like lightning........ but I'd rather have that than snowing :-D

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 28 Nov 2013 22:18

I'm sure you would Scozz.

Weather has turned mild again except... last Friday!
Went to Stirling for my daughter's graduation (masters degree).

We arrived at Bridge of Allan around 8.45am and it was minus 6c
There had been little or no rain for weeks .
So cold and I felt like I was breathing in dry ice!

Same daughter has a birthday next week and I can recall countless birthday parties where there were issues with sudden heavy snow showers.
One party resulted in an unplanned sleepover for about 10 kids!

There's definitely a storm brewing for tonight!

Himself says I have a barometer head...... I seem to get a "pressure headache" when a thunderstorm is on the way.

I don't think the storm will be here until late tonight, thank goodness, cos Himself is on the golf course........ not a good idea to be outside waving a metal stick around your head when there's a possibility of lightning!

:-(

Oh My Goodness!
Just seen the news.... a helicopter has crashed into The Clutha Bar in Glasgow city centre.
I cannot be certain but, it looks like a police helicopter to me!

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 30 Nov 2013 01:17

G Lass ~ I just noticed the headline on msn news.

It looks awful. The only "good" news is that the helicopter didn't explode.

Man talking on the news clip (he was on the 6th floor of nearby carpark) said he thought it may be a police helicopter.

This will cast a shadow over any celebrations planned today for St. Andrew's Day.

As I posted on the thread below - I have fond memories of the Clutha, it was always a popular venue for those who like live music and a singsong, on a historical note - it is one of Glasgow's oldest pubs and in days gone by it was known as The Merchant, The Weemann's, and The Pipinjay.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those caught up in this tragic incident :-(

Did you know that Santa is a Scotsman?

Too many pies - not enough exercise... of course he's one of us!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkpOfHW75ck

Have a memory that this knocked Leona Lewis off the No1 slot of the HMV charts a few years ago.
AND....The WELSH version is now available too!

Ho Ho Ho , in 2007, Radio Scotand banned this song, claiming that it was negatively sterotyping Scotsmen.
The ban was lifted after just 48hrs!

The weather looks a bit rough up in Scotland - to say the least!!

Maybe it is the shock of seeing a tramcar running through the streets of Edinburgh.
I am so old I remember seeing the demise of the previous tramcars in the 1950s.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 6 Dec 2013 07:56

I hope everyone up in Scotland coped ok with the rough weather you have had up there.

Robert - Fond memories as I remember the old tramcars, going to the zoo on the tramcar was just as exciting as the zoo itself :-D

We are fine here in this part of D&G - very windy yesterday and a few trees down but no damage and no power cuts. Feel very sorry for those in the East of England who have been flooded.

Hope all who are flooded are safe and well.

OFiTG,
I used to get the Tramcar from (outside) Saughton Prison to my work in St Andrew Square and this cost me tuppence halfpenny in old money.
