Not used one for years. Usually vandalised and stinking, anyway.

Think most people have now got an emergency pay as you go phone. Or easy access to one if needed.

Not everyone owns a mobile phone
My OH has only recently got a £10.00 one

Phone boxes on the streets are a lifeline in an emergency. If you are mugged and your phone is taken where will you call from???

Would have been quite funny if Paddy's Wigwam had ended up painted red and with small windows.

Very cleverly avoiding what edifice you are referring to as Paddy's Wigwam. That is what I and many in Liverpool will object to, as you full well know.

You would be the first to jump on anyone else who used such a derogatory expression.

Don't think he is sure at all. If he is referring to Liverpool Cathedral, it is a wonderfully constructed building. Never referred to as a tent, to my knowledge.

Expect we will soon get an apology for denigrating the work of Gilbert Scott, and apology to the people he refers to as "Paddys" and an apology to me and to you Rose.

But suspect he will gambol away from the scene as per usual. :-( :-(

to clarify, I know what Paddy's Wigwam is, and don't think there are many who would object to the term. Liverpudlian's and the Irish are well known for their sense of humour :-) they have to be with all the flak directed at them :-)

John it is known throughout the world as Paddy's Wigwam and most Liverpudlians I have met over the years (I have been to Liverpool many many times and even have relatives there) have used exactly the same term.

Getting back to phone boxes think they are probably still a necessity I for one don't like mobiles can never remember to re-charge them and as a result only use when we are on holiday, very silly of us I know like when we were in a car accident last year middle of nowhere and had to borrow someone's phone and I made a promise I would always keep my phone charged.....unfortunately have forgotten all about that. So yes I would use one in an emergency though not had to for a long time! :-So can we start the Save Our Phone Booths petition...much cleaned up though as they do Stink :-(

Good idea, Nolls. But would it be cost effective. So many seem to want to vandalise things. For the fun of it, or for small financial gain.

Examples:

Remembrance benches
Telephone boxes
Bus shelters
Gardens of remembrance
Trees
Lead flashing off roofs of churches and schools
Lifts
Stairwells
Public parks
Kerbstones
Underpasses

99% want these amenities. For some reason, 1% spoil it for the majority. You could never have a cash facility in a phone box, and how many who don't have an emergency mobile phone will have the credit/debit card to pay for the call?
