Every phone box I have used in recent times had a cash facility |

Mersey. No. I think I made my point very clearly on other thread and it is dead and buried as far as I am concerned. |

True John and there are some still here in H/g not the old fashioned ones though . Can you still buy phone cards??? I would probably still forget to buy them . I should imagine Errol there won't be that many left for cash ....Now here's a big problem tell me what I can do if I need to phone home when I'm so forgetful...on other hand don't bother by the time I got there I would have forgotten what I was phoning about..............don't worry I'm rambling as usual ;-) |

Nolls I have just been out to check my nearest phone box and it takes cash. I was in a town the other day and used one that also accepted cash so I think they are still pretty common. |

Nolls. You have the answer. If you need to phone home and you are in the middle of nowhere, you simply make your way to Errol's home (is Cheshire close to Harrogate?) and put your cash in box - simple. As long as his box has not been vandalised :-0 :-0 |

A quick google suggests 'most' people, a broad selection from various sites, newspapers etc refer to 'Paddy's wigwam' affectionately. It may not be accurate to describe it thus, but I don't think it was intended as insulting. |

Errol I'm sure they do and I do think there should be some cash ones round. |

Sir Frederick Ernest Gibberd (7 January 1908 – 9 January 1984) was the architect of the Mersey Funnel or Patrick's Tent. Have never been in the Metropolitan Cathedral but it does look impressive. |

So it is ok to now say Patrick's Tent rather than Paddy's Wigwam? |

Trying I am. Trying to write this from a post box in Cilgerran. Someone with a frying pan and hot poker has forced me inside and locked me in. Attractive but fierce and determined young lady. |

Cynthia. Metropolitan sounds very nice. I like it outside too, and am quite keen to see it inside. Like "Mersey Funnel" better than PW but know what you mean. I have a brother in law who was brought up in the beautiful Dingle of Liverpool and, when sorting out his friends aged about 5, he was asked if he was a Mick or a Billy Boy. Because his name was William he said Billy Boy. |
