Just to say...this is why as English by birth ,I love Wales,even though I only understand and speak a few phrases...Maybe it's the wild side of me....and the ..Far from the Madding crowd element!

Betws-y-Coed is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park. The Snowdonia National Park in North Wales covers more than 800 square miles, it is a region of haunting beauty and grandeur, of wild rocky mountains, hidden valleys, cascading rivers, still glacial lakes and deep forests.
North Wales is an old country; geologically old, with some of the most ancient rocks in the world; old in its economy, based still on the immemorial pastoral or sheep-rearing way of life; old in culture, with traditions in poetry and music that may date back to the Bronze Age; and old in language, for the Welsh you will hear spoken everywhere in the mountain villages is Europe's oldest living language. No wonder the deep valleys seem still to hold the echo of the myths, legends and bardic traditions of the past. The relics of the past lie undisturbed still in the hills the Neolithic stone circles, the Bronze Age chambers, the fortifications of the Celtic Iron Age, the Roman fort, and the monuments of the great Welsh princes. Compared to southern Britain, Snowdonia is truly wild.
The Snowdonia National Park consists largely of blocks of undisturbed mountain and moorland divided from each other by deep valleys along which most of the main roads have been made. A few beautiful villages such as Betws-y-Coed and Beddgelert are the only claims that man has placed on this truly magnificant landscape. The highest peak, which is also the highest point in England and Wales, is Snowdon (3,560 feet).
There are 13 other peaks that top the 3,000-foot contour. Snowdonia is ideal country for getting out and about. You can explore on foot, by car, on one of the magnificent mountain trains, or by horseback from one of the several pony-trekking centres. The Forestry Commission provides trails, car parks and picnic sites for visitors, but urges people to observe the Highway Code.

There used to be a Peacock Farm near Betwys where you could buy tail feathers ... wonder if it's still there ?

B-y-Coed and Swallow Falls is lovely real tourist attractions, got lots of snaps of the area,

Theres so much beauty in Wales its hard to pick,but a ride though Llanberis Pass is magical,nature at its best,but then so many other places offer much the same.....

Ireland,Scotland,Northumberland,,,even the outskirts of Manchester some scenery is breathtaking.

Lots been said about how beautiful Wales is, BUT, there are also some grotty places as well.

When we travelled through Wales we did see some lovely scenery, and we also saw some dumps as well.

As Kay???? says there is lovely scenery through the British Isles, and there are also some real grotty places as well.

My cousin has been operating group tours in Wales since 2005 for people from all over the world. Their testimonials on her website all tell of what a great country it is and many would like to visit again. :-)

But, in the opposite direction is 'the car' ... though not sure who is in it now !!!

The coast of Pembroke is beautiful as are the Brecon Beacons in their majesty.

There are 'grotty' places everywhere in the world - UK is no different.

Niagara Falls on the Canadian side is lovely, well laid out. However the USA is a shock to the eye, it was grotty - at least when I was there visitng Canada.

Having cleaned off the dragon poo and burning sock residue, am now working my way stealthily through the undergrowth, looking for any clues to the whereabouts of previously mentioned..umm.. nether garment.

Bit chilly, and could do with a fresh pair of socks (Toeby??) and a little help from the lost damsel wouldn't go amiss.....

Not seen Suzanne at all. I did see something flashing from the top of Snowdon :-S :-S :-S No grey hair, she is young like Hayley. Do you think Suzanne is in Nefyn and the lovely old Dr has given her a warm bed to sleep in today and thaw out below the waste - edit waist:-D :-D. And she is now sipping that lovely Welsh liqueur "Pis y Deryn" or "Can y Delyn".

I must tell you all that Brenda is a professional jazz player of some renown and also an employee of Wales Tourist Board. Bit rich promoting both on this thread, I thought ;-)

OH GOD WHAT A VERY STRANGE 24HRS ITS BEEN.
The journey through the small narrow country lanes towards PWLLHELI was terrible,and due to the sub zero temp inside my car i started to hallucinate,
staring at me from the middle of the road was a huge mountain goat,dressed in white robes,and wearing red frilly knickers,he was singing SOSPAN BACH at the top of his voice,the sight frightened me so much i almost crashed over the wall into the revine below,all that saved me was the thought of meeting the lovely staff at the spar,and having a lovely panad with DR Robin the bard.

but low and behold,i didnt finish my journey before i was stopped and arrested by two burly policemen (HEDDLU) who threw me into the back of a van and drove me to the nearest available cell.

MY CRIME
speaking English on the road to PWLLHELI, and wearing no knickers (a crime in wales since 1209)

the HEDDLU were very good to me,giving me a hard bed and a lovely sack to sleep on,they also gave me a wholesome breakfast of cruel and a cup of pee,sorry TEA before sending me on my way. i really thought i was dreaming,

and has it happens i was :-D woke up with a start,in a laybe just outside Bangor. ;-)
