Good luck to Mac, and hope he gets through the op OK. Sometimes what seems drastic is the only option. The other lung will take over.

New message from Mac:
Came out a couple of hours ago, I was extremely poorly when I went in, I spent 48 hours on Oxygen before being taken to another ward for treatment Am I glad the Doctor put me in Hospital, I was given a new Antibiotic introvenously, What a Miracle it was, after trying to fight the Superbug for years with nothing having any effect, after just two drips, my lung started to dry up and by the time a had seven or eight I could breathe again without all the Gurgling and Wheezing and "Coughing up" gallons of gunge I had a few bad experiences while I was in there, I got a very bad reaction to the Nebuliser they made me use and it gave me a sort of fit, I could not control any part of my body, my arms, legs, head, feet, everything was jumping about as though I had Parkinsons, This happened on Thursday and I still get the shakes now, today was the first day (at Lunchtime) that I could use a spoon to have my Soup or drink from a cup, I have been using a Babies Beaker, I lost a few half cups of Tea and Coffee when I tried to drink after the fit Following the attack I had four really sharp pains in the chest and they called in the CCU team, but it wasnt a heart attack and finally yesterday I crashed out onto the floor in the corridor going to the Toilet, I think what they were giving me was very strong, I felt really unwell and I couldnt eat Supper last night or the Breakfast this morning. The Doctors wanted me in for a couple more days but gave me the choice of coming home, the Hospital was very short of beds as all the other local Hospitals were full to overflowing, Bridlington, York, Whitby, Driffield, all of them, they were even coming in from Hull A frightening place to be at the moment, in the AAU (Acute Assessment Unit) they wheeled a black body box out, And the ward I was put in after, two died during the day I went in and two died during that night, everybody had to stay in their beds and all the screening curtains were drawn around them. My problems were nothing compared to some of the poor B******s in that ward, I tried to make it a little better for some of them by telling jokes and encouraging them to be positive, helping them to walk etc, one guy in there was like a stroke victim, he had a reaction from an Anti-Depressant medicine, after about 3 days I became his best friend (his words) and it was great to see him smile every time I appeared, also to get him speaking again, I'm going back to see him again towards the end of the week when I am a bit stronger and can walk a bit further, its a long walk from the Car Park and quite a few stairs I have been INSTRUCTED by the doctors not to overdo it and keep warm, I have to report to my Doctor and the Practice Sister tomorrow I think I am a bit ready to go to bed now as I'm still a bit FRAGILE Catch you all tomorrow Mad Mac............The Old Geezer XXXX (for the Gals) Sorry Fellas, you're not getting any kisses from me What do you think I am !!

Jst found this email from Mac, he nearly gave me heart failure thinking he was bad again......I am so gonna whack him!
Another short update, I am going back into the Hospital on Friday again............... Yes I'm going back in to take some Sweeties for the Sweeties that looked after me And also to see my new friend Gerard again to see how he is getting on and taking him some Cordials to keep him going, I hope he is still SMILING. I think one or two others I made friends with may have passed away, they were in a very poor condition and seem to be going downhill fast I am not going to let them keep me in, "over my dead body" OOOpps I shouldn't say that, I might tempt fate Lungs still clear, Still Fragile Mac xxx

Message from Mac just before midnight last night!
Good news and bad news.............. Went to the hospital today with the Sweeties, (Tin of Roses) and Gerard was all packed and ready to go home, the moment he saw me he beamed that terrific smile, we had a long chat and he was talking normally again, He has improved so much since I came out, still cant walk very well, but I think he will get there in the end, fed him some Choccy Biscuits and Blackcurrant drink. The bad news was that two more of the friends I made have died since Tuesday, thats a total of 7 in 10 days ........"Depressing"......... Well I could have been one of them I suppose, I felt bad enough in the five weeks leading up to being "shoved" in, there was three times I believed I would not be waking up in the morning, I felt THAT bad Just hoping now that the IV Antibiotics give me a long time before the "B****Y Superbugs come back again, at least I have a better chance now that something works for me, this is the only chance I have, none of the others work, I am immune to ALL oral Antibiotics. Anybody want to sponsor me on the John O Groat to Lands End Cyclo Walk this year... I WISH...............One of two Unfulfilled ambitions, the other is a Solo Parachute Jump, I've flown em but not yet jumped myself Goodnight ALL xxxxx Alright, Alright, the boys can have some kisses too XXX Mac

Glad your new friend was so pleased to see you and that he is well enough to go home, I bet you helped make that possible.....will you be keeping in touch with him? Sad about your other friends, but you were one of the lucky ones so let your body recover some strength before you go doing TOO MUCH, TOO SOON!!!! It would be good if those new antibiotics saw the superbugs off once and for all!!
Best wishes and a lots of XXXX.

Another message from Mac:
Liz, If I dont keep up with the jokes ..............I might cry I'm in a lot of pain at the moment...........I cant win !! In my Chest and in my Lungs, seems like I have a blockage or two with a return of a small amount of "Gunge" Anyway , Haven't mentioned the wife for a while have I She has nearly fully recovered her sight and apart from having a Nasty cough and sore throat (which I think she has given to me),,,,,,,,,,,,,,AND She is talking about blowing a chunk of our savings on.........wait for it.......wait for it A Cunard cruise on the Queen Mary 2, first flying to San Francisco for 3 nights, then two nights on an Amtrac train through the Rockies across America to Chicago, a day in Chicago, an overnight ride to New York , staying for 3 nights and cruising back on board for 7 days. Its a Special Offer giving a £1,000 off each, the last Journey of a Lifetime, and guess what, I think I will be writing another book This trip will most certainly be the last I will ever make, and in future I think it may be a Shearings Coach holiday or two in the future Well, somehow I will have to stay alive long enough, Pass me the Brandy !! Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye, here I go singing low on my way !! Mac xxxxxx my lips are getting sore with all these kisses
