Good Morning Sue - Good Evening Linda,

Do you have slugs in Australia?

Tec.

We have a large garden but it is all lawns and flowers, I grow herbs and salad leaves in there. Once he stopped working OH managed to get an an allotment which is only three minutes walk from the house. At first it was "his " allotment and I wasn't going to be allowed there, but really all he likes doing is digging and planting,so all of a sudden I was allowed to go. He didn't want anything to do with the greenhouse (glasshouse), or the large fruit cage. He also discovered that I could come in useful when it came to weeding, so now it is a joint venture.

Ah hello Tecwyn, I have plenty of slugs if Sue doesn't have any.

Oh and nettles galore. I mentioned nettles to an Aussie friend, but he didn't know what they were

When I take my dog into the garden late at night, it's like the Whacky Races - slugs and snails in all directions - some of the slugs are huge here - I don't know what to do with them. Won't use slug pellets in case they harm the birds.

Just throw them over the fence, I am sure your neighbours won't mind!
My dad used to stamp on them,or if you are really cruel you can pour salt on them and they dissolve. Some people put beer in a tin sunk into the soil to attract them ,at least they must die happy

Yes Tec - we have slugs. They are a real pest in the garden especially with seedling. We also have a little white moth - I think it's called a cabbage moth. They do some damage too. Luckily we have some lizards in the garden and they tend to keep the insects down so I don't need to use pesticides. Now the grandchildren are running around we have to be more careful using slug pellets. I have a couple of nice terracotta slug traps. They look like upturned bowls with little entries. You put the pellets inside and the snails and slugs crawl in. I put them right under the shrubs and so far the kids haven't spotted them but we'll have to watch them. OH has also got a worm farm so plenty of castings and liquid fertiliser to use on the garden.

Must go - babysitting duties call:))

I can't pick them up to throw them......ugh - how disgusting!
Have tried the beer treatment - what a waste
Can't bring myself to use salt - even slugs must have feelings

Good morning/evening/night all.

Yes, we have slugs in Australia. Pesky things. Where I am, we have more snails than slugs. Isn't it amazing, the places they can hide?

Jac - you are welcome to join us. We Aussies are learning how to speak Welsh at the moment. I have just been over the last few pages twice looking for the post with the pronunciations in it. I decided to C & P it before our resident 'Saturday night nasty' tries to get it zapped - and I haven't found it yet!

Another nice day forecast - the sun is up but still low and no warmth in it yet, so while I have my heat turned on, it's back to searching for that post!

Good evening/morning all.

It looks like we are heading for another fine day here in the West.

Whilst reading through these posts to catch up with what's happening I had to laugh out loud: one of my assignment exercises is to "develop a communications strategy for a culturally diverse workplace"

I may jus say "join this thread on GR"

Tec, your owl and the pussycat poem brought back memories, my mother used to read that to me oh so may years ago.

If it will help with cuting the cost of the cruise I could cadge a lift on the Bunbury Port Pilot boat and meet you in the Indian Ocean!

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jul 2009 22:48

Hi SueMaid,

We also have a family of lizards in our back garden: they are bob-tails and tend to rest under the leaf litter.

before we do any digging or forking we have to clear the area as we don't want to skewer them

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 31 Jul 2009 22:55

Good Morning Allan,
Well if I don't win the lottery, we may yet take our cruise in a pea green boat - but it's a hell of a long way to row from here

Regards
Tec.

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jul 2009 22:58

Hi Tec,

we can get the girls to row whilst we go water skiing

lol

I just got kicked off GR and had to sign in again - happens a lot lately.
That's a brilliant idea Allan - but you know what girls are like - be losing the oars over the side all the time, and rowing round and round in circles - we'd never get anywhere..........

Yes - this is a culturally diverse thread isn't it?

I wonder if Berona is still looking for that pronounciation - I could easily do it again for her
