Good morning Susan with numbers, and Colin
I have enough problems trying to speak Aussie, with a fairly strong northern Accent (which I still have after nearly 30 years over here) without trying to learn the intricacies of the Welsh language.
It reminds me of when I was first seeing my OH who is of Ukranian Descent. She and her mother used to have some blazing rows, all carried out in Ukrainian.....at least I could never have been accused with siding with one party or the other
lol

Good morning everyone here and (am I too late again?) goodnight to all those going/gone to bed.
Tec - thanks for the Welsh lesson. As a transcriber for FreeBMD, I type a lot of Welsh names - people and places - and try to pronounce them as I go. Your lesson comes in very handy - but I'm not sure about the double "L". I type Llanelly quite a lot, but now that you have explained it to me, I feel like I am breathing on glass; then when I get the first LL out, I can't get my tongue back into place to say the rest of it. Oh well, I'll practice!
No comments from you others, now! LOL

Good morning, Berona.
With me it is not my tongue that's in the wrong place, it's my teeth.
I left them in a glass on my bedside table
lol

Good Morning Everyone,
Berona I know those places well. I grew up in Hamilton, lived in Adamstown Heights for 12 years and have just built a new house in Kotara, moved in two months ago. Just about to nip out and do the grocery shopping at Garden City (or Westfield as it is now). Good luck with the transcribing, free BMD is a great site, I use it alot.

Hi Aussies/Brits
That cruise sounds like a plan, put me down for 2 tickets please. Sorry don't do fancy dress, I shall just hang around in jeans and T-shirts cos that's just me!!!! I don't mind leaving from Sydney, I have a rellie that lives in Mosman.
I hope your son had a nice birthday Sue. My oldest son is 18 and he would expect the same for his day, including candles!!! Do they ever grow out of that !!
Looks like we will get a bit of much needed rain ( Drizzle in the UK) this arvo.
Hope everyone has a great day/night. Regards from down here in the south:)))) Carole

Hello again Suzie, Next time you go shopping, look up! I lived in the house right on the very top of the hill in front of the shopping centre.

Greetings to all near and far, I havejust been packing my bag: hope I haven't missed the boat! A cruise would be a wonderful holiday - fancy a Mediterranean one where the waters would be calmer. Did a 'mystery cruise" a few years ago from Fremantle. It was just three days, two nights, to give people a taste of cruising who may be contemplating a real trip. Thought it might inspire my OH to go on one as he was never keen on the idea. Left Fremantle one Friday night, he was impressed by how smooth the boat was, but we hadn't got out of the harbour yet! When we hit the open sea it was another story. Lucky we had an outside cabin with a small balcony, as our 18 year old son spent his night out there with a blanket around his shoulders and his head in the waste paper bin. Next morning there were a lot of passengers around the lounges looking like they had left there cabins and spent the night there!
Nevertheless, I think we are planning next year to do one of those Canada (Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise etc) and Alaska cruise trips. Have heard they are just wonderful, and the scenery spectacular.
But travel costs, so I will be buying a ticket in tomorrow night's Powerball for a chance of a big win,.

Thanks, Tec, for the Welsh pronunciation(I think you're probably asleep by now though) My father came out from Wales in his 20's, but he never talked about it, and he never went back again. When you are young you never think about these things, but now there are lots of questions I would loved to have asked him.
Suemaid: the soup of the day from me is chicken and corn chowder, with potato, a bit of smoky bacon and shallots on top. Made it last week and it was lovely. I have a book called 500 soups, lots of ideas.
Have a happy day everyone, and keep smiling, Susan. (any suggestions for another posting name will be considered!)

Good morning everyone,
I hope that your son had a good day Sue. I am also pleased that you managed to crack another bit of your tree. The book of baptisms I ordered still hasn't arrived, hopefully when it does we can solve another of your mysteries.
I am a home made soup fan as well, We had a mixed veg one last night, all the veg was grown on our allotment. I make all my own bread, jams, chutneys, pasta sauces etc. Of course as I no longer work, I have the time to do these things now. I learnt the techniques from my mum and passed them onto my own children. I can't be doing with useless men,so made sure that my son was involved from being tiny, he is an excellent cook now.
I am always astounded when I see TV programmes which show young mothers on some of the bad estates having to be shown even the most basic steps in cooking. I suppose they can't be blamed in a way, if you have been brought up exclusively on pizzas, take away and ready meals, when do you learn to cook?

My serious but cheeky request for a rough guide to Welsh pronunciation certainly stirred some interest. Thanks Tecwyn. Not sure if I will need Llandelli, but we have a village in northern NSW called Llangothlin, probably for reasons best not explored too deeply. The region is called New England, and apart from a Tamworth we have a Ben Lomond, a Glen Innes and etc etc. I will however attempt to pronounce Llangothlin correctly while I still have my own teeth.
The idea of a cruise sounds great. I have been to Sydney's Manly by ferry many times so could probably cope with rolling seas. I hope.

Good Afternoon/ morning !!
What a busy day its been !!
Sue..how was the birthday cake? My boys run at the thought of a birthday cake ( but secretly they love it) Did your boys do the same as young teenagers?? Hope it all went okay for your family.
Susan....Love the sound of the chicken soup...My absolute favourite....
Linda... I actually hate cooking and make no attempt at making anything different!! I did learn off my Mum and had to make dinner at home when I was younger but it kinda lost its appeal after that....lol
Well better think about dinner....lol
Have a great night/day all.
xx

Hi, everyone. I have passed on your birthday greetings to my son and he said "uh,,,,oh yeah GR....thanks". We've just seen my daughter and family off and are now relaxing with a glass of wine. I cooked a roast chicken (son's favourite) with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beans, peas and corn, baked potatoes and of course yorkshire puds and gravy. A chocolate mud cake followed only eaten at this stage by the children because we were so full. The kids blew the candles out - each had to have a blow with the candles relit for each one:)) I truly love having the family around but unfortunately there's always someone missing. I have another son and grandson living in Hobart so we don't get together as often as we would like.
Linda I don't like useless sons and I've endeavoured to make my boys fully capable of looking after themselves. Our youngest was 19 the first time we went overseas and he didn't starve or wear dirty clothes:)) He was living away from home at the time but came home and house sat to feed the dogs. Our other son was until recently in the army and can iron better than I can. He's had to look after himself since he was 18.
Linda I'm very appreciative of the help you've given me but more so for showing me how to think beyond the obvious.
Tec, that cruise is filling up at an alarming rate. I hope you're buying plenty of tickets:))
Hope you are all well - a good day to our Pommie friends and enjoy the rest of your evening, Aussies.
Sue xx

HI Everyone
Glad the Birthday went well Sue.
Talking of sons and cooking..My boys have all got use to me and my dishes or not dishes whatever the case may be..lol. They are all very interested in cooking and very capable of doing any household chore. The oldest is doing his own washing and the others have their jobs to do. I want them to be able to go out on their own and be capable of doing things for themselves. (thats if they ever leave home)!!. Funnily enough i just watched that new series that has started about the worlds strictest parents, the transformation of the kids that are sent away has been fantastic and i only hope that they continue down that right track..
Having a early night as I feel a headache coming on....So I shall bid you all a goodnight and a good day...
xx

H Everyone, Hope you're all having a good whatever!
It's 2pm here in pommieland - I'm supposed to be painting the kitchen ceiling - but am having a lunch break. Today I took delivery of a new gizzmo for the kitchen, in the shape of a Halogen Cooker - not tried it yet - may be good, may prove useless - but something new to play with, and as I do much of the cooking here, it will be my triumph, or my disaster - we'll see!
Yep.........the ship is filling up nicely - I'll be checking bookings later - so any of you guys holding back better get in quick - who knows? it could be my week on the lottery. Don't miss the boat!
I hope all you Aussies are practising your Welsh, because when I get down there I'll expect you all to be fluent.
Oh well - back up the ladder......
Regards Tec.

Taken me ages to read all this today:)))
Gosh Tecwyns lessons have raised some interest, Must be to do with all wanting to come on this cruise.lol
Berona If you are talking about the the town in South West Wales it is Llanelli, Llanelly is a small parish in South East Wales where I was born:))
Colin You coming on the cruise too? This is going to be fun!! There are a lot of Welsh town names in Oz so I understand as my 2 cousins live there.Oh also my neighbours dau who moved there 6 yrs ago Our spellings are Llanelli , Llangollen ( don't think you have a Llanelli tho) I believe there is a Brynmawr with you, ours is 2 miles from where I live and where I went to grammar school. And of course you have a New South Wales, I live in the old one .lol
~~~~Waves to Allan..S'mae butt !...a friendly greeting ( the butt is pronounced but and is used in our part of the world mostly by males:))
Before I leave to do food must say S'mae to SueMaid, it is her thread after all:))
