G'day and S'mae (Is that correct)

Good morning Aussies.
I hope our Brits are enjoying their blissful slumber.

Ive been quite busy working on my tree, adding new names and new family's. They are mostly quite large family's with some of my ancestors having between 10 and 15 children. Is this normal?

Yesterday, I read a story on here (General boards I think) where a lady had been searching for her father and finally found him, I actually sat there with tears rolling down my face.
I do hope she gets to finally meet her dad.
I love happy endings!!!!!

Allan, your suggestion that I don't bring a toy-boy but get a real one, sounds good, but at my age, you take whatever you can get! and with my luck, I'll be stuck with his bar bill. Good thing Tec is paying for the tickets or I would be paying for both of them too!

The only reason I was up at 3am was because I hadn't yet gone to bed!

Sue - I did have nearly two wonderful years back then - hitch-hiking on the Continent, etc. Nearly fainted when I found out that my daughter dared to hitch-hike in Ireland! She didn't tell me about the hitching until she came home - but what could I say? I didn't tell my mother about it until I came home either!

Nipped onto the internet to do a bit of resaearch for two assignments I have to submit soon....and here I am on here.

I'm too past it to be upgrading my qualifications, but the legislation keeps changing and so I have to change with it. And only 4 years to go before official retirement.

Roll on that cruise.

Good evening and good morning:)) I thought I would come on now as we're going out for dinner and I may not get the chance to say hello this evening. We're going to a Thai restaurant here in our town that is owned by an old school friend of my daughter. She's Chinese/Australian and she has 5 - would you believe - beautiful daughters who are allowed to come and say hello when we go in.

The day has been lovely and sunny but quite cool. I did some re-potting and a little tidying up in the garden which I always enjoy. Then I went through some photos and put together a group of photos of places that were important to our ancestors including churches and houses. My OH put them on the computer last year and erased cars and road signs and then I had them printed in sepia. I often look up the old photos on the Frances Firth web site and it's surprising how little some of the places have changed. Photography is a hobby of my husband's and we both love the end results. He's pretty good at restoring old photos although we don't like them fixed up too much. The character can be lost if they are made perfect.

I hope that you enjoy your meal Sue. The sun is shining here, but I have to wait in for a delivery to be made. They will only specify morning which means from 9-1pm. that of course means that I will sit here all morning and they will finally turn up sometime in the afternoon.

I hate Magpies Sue, they are cruel carnivores. One of them tore another birds poor little chick to bits in order to feed it's own young. I know that it is only nature, but they don't need to do it in my garden.

No Allan, I wasn't one of the $ 80m Powerball winners. Might have helped had I bought a ticket. They couldn't find the two winners for a while. One almost deleted the email telling of his 40million win!

Just think of the cruise we could all have if I had won it! Oh well, there's always next week.

Hi Linda - You are right about the James Herriot books - the writing doesn't flow somehow - I have to keep back tracking, but enjoying it nevertheless.
I think you said that some of your ancestors were coal miners. I have been given an address where you can send for the training records, and work records of men that worked in the mines. Most of my OH ancestors worked in the North Wales coalfields, and I shall send for their records.
Let me know if you are interested in this address. Apparently, you have to write and ask them to send a form to complete with details.

Berona.......If you win the Powerball, and I win the UK lottery, we could buy the ship between us, and just cruise forever!

Berona I think Tec has offered you a chance of a lifetime - cruising the world forever sounds good:)) Of course you'd have to have staff so keep enough money to pay for a good chef and cleaning crew.

We had a lovely meal tonight - Thai food. The restaurant is new and the setting is very modern. I love going out for dinner with the family. My daughter asked her ex mother-in-law to babysit so she could have a child-free meal and our son also came along.

My next door neighbours have a brand new daughter:)) How quickly they get on with things these days. The little one was born yesterday evening and came home this morning. She's a tiny little scrap - absolutely gorgeous. I popped over with a lasagne for their dinner and a little look at her. Her mum looked great - tired but very calm and self assured and dad is so proud. I love new-borns - so much potential.

It's a joy to read it, and although I dont join in cos I'm only an Honorary Aussie, I really get a feel for Australia just by reading your posts from across the continent.

Jac, I'm glad you're enjoying the thread - it's fun isn't it? We're getting a taste of Wales here too as well as Australia. When Tec wins the lottery I'll sneak you on board the cruise he's taking us on:))

This morning I'm babysitting for a couple of hours then I think I'll do a bit more gardening as the weather forecast is good again. We've just sprayed the front lawn for bindiis and other weeds and done a general tidy up. Now my OH has retired he will get into vegetable gardening so we will have a bigger variety of fresh vegies. Usually I just put a couple of tomato plants and some lettuce in the garden but I'm looking forward to fresh carrots and beetroot and whatever else he'll put in. I'll get the little ones to plant radishes - they grow so quickly (The radishes I mean). I can remember when my children were little they would pull the radishes and carrots out of the garden wash them under the hose and eat them as quick as they could grow. Annoying when you wanted them on the table but at least they were eating their vegies.

Sue, I have an allotment, so grow lots of veg. The problem is that it all matures at once. I have a glut of cauliflowers at the moment. I have been making lots of soup to freeze. I still have some more to use so I am going to make some more piccalilli tomorrow

I love cauliflower but you can only eat so much:)) I'm hoping OH puts in some potatoes and spinach. We have the bush behind us and everyone keeps the grass cut for a few metres because of scrub fires. Most of my neighbours grown a few bits and pieces over the fence such as pumpkin vines and sweet corn so as not to take up too much room in the yard. I bought some seeds the other day so I can get some vegies started for him but he'll probably buy seedlings as well. Do you swap with some of your neighbours if you get a glut, Linda? Last summer we had more cherry tomatoes than we and the family could eat. So I swapped them for spinach and parsley. I've even got my daughter interested in a herb garden as she uses a lot of herbs in cooking.

I usually just give them away to my next door neighbours. Everyone on the allotments always has too much stuff. We have lots of potatoes,the last type are just about ready to come out. We have just taken out all the onions as well. There is all sorts on the go.I have sweetcorn and marrows as well The tomatoes are just starting to ripen now

With 3 tomato plants I can supply me and OH, my mother and my daughter. I usually grow cherry tomatoes, roma and then a large variety for slicing for sandwiches. I've even grown lettuce in a big pot. I just take a few leaves at a time. Now they'll be in a proper garden that OH is preparing. He hasn't had the time while he was working and I didn't want to have to tend it and the rest of the garden - he's really looking forward to it.
