Mo in Kent Report 27 Apr 2009 17:25

Well Marilyn,it's your fault it's raining is it. Doing all that washing, you might
have guessed it would rain on it. lol
I also am fed up with these hotmatches, the ones I get are normally not related to me at all. I have been waiting since the beggining of the month, for a reply to one that I responded to. The trouble is,you never know
wether the person who you are reponding to,is still a member. I wish there was someway of knowing. The pm I sent is still unopened.
We,like you, have had an awful day here. I got lovely and wet, this morning when I went shopping. I was glad to get home.
I have to go out tonight,as I have got darts. But have to admit,I am not looking forward to it. We have got the pairs knockouts, and there are a lot of trophy hunters that enter. My partner and I only go for the night out,she and I have been darts partners for years now,and we both used to be pretty good, but as we have got older,we are not really up to scratch. Still
never mind,if we get knocked out early,I can come home earlier. Years ago
when we were in better form,we would sometimes still be playing the finals at midnight. Oh the good old days.
Well I am of now,got ot clear the dinner things away. Willspeak to you soon. Love and best wishes to all. Mo xxx

Hi Mo,
Hope things are alright with you today!

Just looking in to say hello to everyone!

Went down to Wales yesterday, to do some family research - found some of the information I needed, but not all. Never mind, hubby and I had a good day apart for the rain - did brighten up a bit, late afternoon though.

Hello Sallie.
I am glad you had a good day yesterday. We decided that as it was so nice and sunny this morning,to go down to the coast. We got half way there and it tipped it down with rain. But luckily for us,by the time we got there, the sun had come out again.
We went to the garden center,on the way back, and I got some perennials, have to go back soon to get some bedding plants. But I forgot to get potting compost,so I cannot transfer them yet. I have to use pots,as our garden is the size of a postage stamp.
See you soon. Love Mo xxx

Morning Everyone,

Is Jean back yet ?????

Its looks like its going to be a sunny day today, don't need anymore rain.

I need to plant my sweet peas but I think its too early ,but they are growing like mad on my window sill. I've pinched them, so they are ready for the outside.
I've lovenly nurtured them would be upset if they wilted and died...!!!

Oh well got family to feed instead today ,so sweat peas will have to wait .!

Nice sunny day ahead so got to get on with loads of washing before it changes.

Also want to get a couple of grow bags and seeds for youngest to be able to have a go at growing something.

When I lived at home my dad grew everything in our garden but it didnt rub of on me, should have paid attension more.

oldest Son is given up his football which will be a shame. But he is going to get into some other sports instead. He plays cricket in the summer any way so he shouldnt get bored.
Well hope everyone has a good day.

Mo in Kent Report 29 Apr 2009 15:24

Hi Marilyn and Sue.
Our Jean should be back by Friday or Saturday, all being well.
Oh Marilyn I love sweet peas, they smell so nice as well don't they. You may be alright putting them out now, just keep an eye on the frost though.
The problem is,if you do put them out, that is where they have to stay isn't it.
I saw that you had tried to post yesterday Sue,but from what I can gather
GR had a lot of problems, and all the boards were full of nothing for hours.
I hope you got your plants o.k. I am like you,not very greenfingered, but I did plant my perennials out today. Now they are in,I wont have to worry to much about them next year. I like plants like that. As long as I remember to water them, and feed them occasionally, they will look after themselves.
See you all soon. Love Mo xxx

Deborah Report 29 Apr 2009 16:58

Hi all, greetings from a lovely sunny Jersey. We too have had a fantastic day here today, unlike the rain of yesterday.

Like so many of you I would love to be able to grow plants & flowers. I have not inherited my Dads green fingers either and also with 4 children and loads of their friends kicking footballs around in the garden and a trampoline taking up a huge area, I really do not have much space left that would remain unsquashed by children. At the end of the day, I would rather the children had fun and were outside, so I admire everyone elses gardens instead. That way there isn't the work for me either!!!

My eldest 2 still play football and the 13 year old is in a cup final tomorrow night at our main stadium (a bit like Wembley but in miniature), similar atmosphere though when the youngsters are playing. We are all very excited as it is the first time any of my children have played there.

My youngest 2 play Brazillian Soccer which is more skills based than team game so they enjoy that.

The 2 at secondary have started cricket, swimming & athletics and the 2 at primary have started tag rugby and squash. All these are run through and by the schools, so we are very lucky. The youngest has just started a new venture at school called FitKids which is a club after school for various sports, both team & individual. All well with everything so far.

The oldest 2 are off to Portsmouth 9 & 10 May for the Hampshire County Championships for Athletics. So, as you can well imagine, it is all go in our house.

Throw in fishing at weekends and out cycling with friends, I do wonder whether they all remember where they live. Must make the most of the good weather though, and it is so much better than hanging around corners in groups doing nothing.

Hope all is well with you all, as we are here.

Hi Debbie, good to hear from you.
I love to read what the children are up to. They sound a very healthy lot, with all the sport they do. I had forgotten the eldest do athletics, the same as my grandaughter. Do they ever go to Chrystal Palace, for a meet.
Only that is mostly where out Sasha goes.
When my five were little,we never had much of a garden either. After all a
garden is where they can let of a lot of steam, rather there than in the house, where arguments can start.
Good luck to the for the cup final tommorrow.
Sue I am sorry,I forgot to say how sorry Iam about your son having to give up his football. Is he still having problems with his knees.?
Still if he plays cricket,he is still getting his excercise.Does he like swimming,if he does that is a gentler excercise, and not so much strain on
his knees.
Oh golly I do hope I have got this right, and that I am talking about the right
boy. Pleases forgive me if I am wrong.
Love to all. Mo xxx

Hi Mo, no Daniel's never competed at Crystal Palace, though I bet he would like to. This will be his first season at Track & Field outside of Jersey, though he did a lot of Cross Country races in the UK between January and March.

The competition in Portsmouth is at the Mountbatten Stadium. Not heard of it before and I'm not going with the boys to see what it is all about. Then Daniel is off to compete in the Southern Regional finals at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, Kent at the end of May. I am sure you will have heard of that one.

It is very difficult getting decent competitions for the youngsters here as they all have to travel so often to reach any serious standards. We do receive subsidies from various organisations, but (as with so much these days), funding is being cut in many places, so we must take the opportunities whilst they are available to us.

We always have Guernsey that we can compete against, and that is always very toughly fought, almost more competitive than National competitions. There is a huge sporting rivalry between the 2 islands, though we are all friends really (!).

This coming weekend there are a lot of Inter-Island sporting fixtures, which always seem to bring the Islands alive. Events are held in each of the Islands then they swap venue next year to the "other" island.

All good fun, and even better if the weather holds out. It's just started raining here now. Oh well, off to make sandwiches now. Night.

Well I'm blowed Debbie, the Julie Rose Stadium is not that far away from us. And our Sasha goes there quite often. What a coinsidence. She goes
training three times a week. And she runs for the Medway and Maidstone
Athletics club, I don't know if you have ever heard of it.
You never know if you do with your son,to the Julie Rose. I may see you there.

Hi Mo and all

Yes it was my son who has has problems with his knees.

He is fifteen next week and I think the problems with his legs and his age is the reason for him giving the football up.
Didnt know what to get him for his birthday so we have just ordered a table tennis outdoor table. That should keep him and his mates busy so hope we have nice weather next week,

We have long paved area in the garden so he can play it there. So I didnt get any grow bags today. They will have to wait. As Debbie said in her post it good for the children to be able to play in the garden.
Hope it will be a nice suprise for him.

Hope your son has a good match Debbie.

Bye Sue

Morning all.

Mo, I'm not going with Daniel when he goes to Kent, so won't see you there, unfortunately, otherwise it would have been nice to be able to meet up and have a chat. Yes, I have heard of M & M Athletics Club. I think they would have had some cross country runners in the events that Daniel did earlier on in the year. Is your grandaughter likely to be competing on 23 & 24 May? What age group is she? Daniel has just moved to Under 15's so is finding this first season at that age group hard.

Sue, sorry to hear that your son won't be pursuing football for the time being, a table tennis table is a fab present I have a friend whose son has "Clicky Hips" and is unable to carry out many sports, but he is a fantastic table tennis player and represents the Island. So go for it with your boy.

Not sure if it is of any help, but my 2nd lad had knee problems during the winter months which we put down to indoor athletics & football, being on harder surfaces. But when he was in agony with his back after rugby we sought medical advice.

Our doctor thought his feet turned in slightly, but we went to a Chiropractor which the athletics club recommended and he examined Matthew in tiny detail and it transpires that Matt has one leg longer than the other, which was causing slight curvature of the spine and putting unnecessary pressure on one side of his body. Now, 3 sessions later and a few daily exercises, Matthew has to wear a small heel insert in his shoe, and we haven't had any problems since.

As long as he wears the insert he is fine. It just raises his shorter leg by the 9mm that it differs.

You can also get sports inserts for shoes that help posture & balance, which I know have been a great help to some of the children here. The chemist sells them. Don't know whether they may be worth trying (?)

Oh well, off to do some "real" typing now otherwise we will fall behind with our business. Have a lovely day.

Good evening to you all.
My grandaughter is 14 Debbie, and I believe she is going to attend the athletics in May. I will find out for definate soon.
Good to speak to you again Sallie,I hope you are well.
We have just had a sad day. My DIL's dad's funeral. He had a horse drawn cortege. There were two beautiful grey horses, with black plumes on
there heads.
I have never seen so many wreathes.
The most upsetting thing was seeing my two grandchildren crying. My DIL
was so upset, that my son could not manage to comfort her,and the children at the same time. And there was only so much we could do,as the children needed their mum and dad's comforting arms around them.
Well girls hopefully Jean should be back tommorrow. Fingers crossed.
Speak to you all again soon. Love Mo xxx

Deborah

Deborah Report 30 Apr 2009 22:56

Oh, poor you, Mo. A funeral is never easy is it, and when you see so many upset you tend to feel completely useless. As you say, there is only so much you can do.

Better news from here though. Daniel's football team won the cup tonight and they are on cloud 9. I have never been so excited watching a match. I am sure my hands will be sore for ages after all the clapping, and my voice has gone hoarse. The youngsters were cock-a-hoop and justly deserved the win. It was a fantastic game and actually quite evenly matched. They only won by 1-0, but it was a win, that's all that matters to them.

The majority of his team have been together since they were about 8 years old, and this is the first major trophy they have achieved, so all credit to them and the coaches who train them week in, week out.

Must go to bed now. The excitement is too much for me!!!

Maybe your grandaughter and my son can meet up Mo??? That would be interesting.

Night night.

Congratulations to your son's team Debbie. That is great news to win 1-0,
I bet they fought hard to get the winning goal.
I spoke to my daughter last night, about the athletics at the end of May,and
apparantly Sasha's times have dropped so drastically, that she may not be entering her into them. It's such a shame, because her nerves take over. Her trainer said that she has got the ability.if only she could conquer her nerves.
I hope everyone is well. Love to all. Mo xxx

Oh Jean,it's so good to have you back. Sorry, that is selfish of me I know.but we did miss you, honest injun we did.
I have just been picturing you,in your nightie bringing the garden furniture in. J must have been so relaxed not to have heard anything at first.I am just glad no one was watching you,or they might have thought you were a
streaker. lol
I can imagine what the papers would have said,if you had been arrested for being in your nightie," Woman seen on her balcony in a storm, was she mad". And can you imagine what would have been said about you on here as well. lol. Well it would made good reading I suppose.
Are you going to start your thread again,I know a lot of people would like you to.
How is J keeping now, well I do hope, and not worrying to much. And yourself,do you feel nice and relaxed.
It's a pity that now you have to get back into the routine,of washing and ironing again. There is always so much to do ,when you get back from a
holiday.
Our weather is still lovely here, and I hope it continues.
Well I will, love and leave you for now. Take care. Love and ~~~~~~~to all.
Best wishes Mo xxx
