lol Joan
I know how difficult it is. I tried those plastic ones too.
You name it I tried it

Hypnosis, Zyban, Lozenges, Patches etc etc etc

But I was trying to give up for all the wrong reasons.
Firstly becuase hubby had given up
Secondly because my son was telling me I should give up
Thirdly for my Grandchildrens sake
I was trying to please everyone and keep them happy
Nothing ever worked.

Until I decided I myself wanted to give up for ME. Then things were a little easier.
I did have some help though and that was CHAMPIX. You smoke for a little while 2 weeks but you have to make a date during that 2 weeks to stop. Funnily enough on those tablets I didn't have the Nicotine Cravings. You have to get them through the Doctor and I didnt have any side effects with them at all.
They came out in England in January 2008 according to my Doctor

Just a thought for you if you are finding it difficult. It is so hard Cold Turkey

Good Luck keep Chewing lol
I have a spare bedroom if you want to come here lol.
Yup I know what ypu mean aboot Men

Keep it up everyone, your doing really well (◕‿◕)

http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/cravingsandurges/ig/Nicotine-Withdrawal-Tips/Deep-Breathing.htm

The first few weeks of smoking cessation may leave you feeling as though your day is one long craving for a cigarette.
You can bet that your mind will turn itself inside out trying to convince you that just one cigarette won't hurt, or that you can always quit again next week.
This mental chatter, also known as junkie thinking, is a common side effect of nicotine withdrawal, and every person who quits smoking goes through some of it. Don't let it throw you.

Breathe Through the Urge to Smoke
Cravings to smoke usually come on fast and with force. They start off strong and fade in intensity within 3 to 5 minutes. Don't panic when you're hit with an intense urge to smoke.
Take a few moments to concentrate on your breathing, and you'll be able to weather the craving successfully.
Close your eyes if possible and breathe in through your nose for a count of three, and exhale through your mouth for a count of three. Repeat this for a few minutes, and the tension in your body will begin to fall away.

Cravings to Smoke are Not Commands
How you choose to react to a craving can either increase or decrease its power over you. The next time a smoking urge hits, try a little reverse psychology. Instead of tensing up for a struggle, relax and mentally lean into the craving. Let it wash over you, and accept it as a sign of healing because that is just what it is. The urge will run its course and pass. Practice makes perfect with this technique. You'll get the hang of it with time and will find it empowering.

I gave up smoking 6 years ago on 6th Jan after 41 years of puffing. I think I would have failed if it wasn't for the fact I kept getting a bunch of flowers from my daughters on the weekly anniversary for the first month. Since then it's been a bunch every year on the 6/1. I couldn't let them down after spending their money so if you want to succeed involve your family. I felt the benefits from giving up immediately. The cough disappeared straight away.
I was 52 when I gave up the cigs and I went for a lung test with the works nurse. I had a lung age of 83. I gave up work last year and had to have another lung test before leaving and I had the lung age of a 53 year old. My lungs have healed so much.
Good luck to you all. Persevere!!!!
Cheers,
Jackie

First of all well done for cutting down and going to see the nurse to get some help,
you sound pretty determined to stop smoking, and I'm sure you are going to succeed.
Let us know how you get on :~)

You should have a word with Keith I'm sure he goes to a smoking clinic, you can compare notes.

I take my hat off to your Nana.
