SS im sorry to hear how bad you took that news, and how harsh really it seems it was told
my neurologist is nice guy, hes gently spoken, and smiles at me a lot, like an older friend, he keeps inpressing that ive done well compared to how he first saw me in 2007, i told him, i could of willingly jumpeed off nearest bridge, if it werent for the kids ,
the headaches at that point were horrendous, and i had a little granchild to look forward to,
i still get the headaches, and like you say the sick ness is horrible
the nightmares are pretty horrendous too, last night i wokke up crying again, had bad one bout my son again, i was criying i my sleep and crying real tears when i woke up, it felt like i was choking with crying in my sleep,
i took tramadol but i had to be weened of um, cos i got so used to um, i could carry on a normal day with um but still had headaches, they just didnt touch um, i was taking paracetamol with um too, they good wen they work though
hope your coping well tho xxx

Hi Liz, good to see you about, I think there was a thread up a while back asking about you, and strangely I was thinking about you only yesterday before I got back on here - have had computer problems with aol.
I am not taking any medication, I just can't cope with the thought of putting on more weight and need to lose some to feel better, I walk round like an old dear of ninety odd! None of my clothes look nice, I look like a beached whale and if I could have a couple of nights of undisturbed sleep I am sue I would feel better - it's that that gets me down the most. I too have dreadful dreams and wake up sobbing, feeling drained.
I watched the programme about mercury in amalgam tooth fillings last night and have wondered before if that is to blame for my problems, but as I could not afford to have the fillings removed, and that disturbs the toxins anyway, have no choice but to take my chance.
Hope things get better for you all soon love Lizxx

I find this thread so interesting, we all have the same symptoms etc, but all on different medication. I have weight gain, but it's my tablets for cancer that has done that doctor told me. I have the nightmares and wake up crying, I don't get the proper sleep because of pain from fm and sciatica. Now I have to live with the knowledge that they can't do anything more to help my back re slipped discs, because my back is in such a bad way with other things. I'm wondering if the nightmares are coming not from the medication but the disturbed sleep, I never used to have them, but now they involve family which is when I wake up crying, but also I now have aliens in my bedroom lol, which is when I wake up scared out of my wits.
I have 18 items on my repeat prescription, three pages stapled together, yet I don't think it's any of the medication that's doing it, I am convinced it is lack of proper sleep. Hope this makes sense, it's still early morning and I have yet to wake up.
Caz xx

hi caz just reading bout you saying you think its not your medication causing nightmares i dont think thats what causes mine, never have i started getting um few year ago now,
bad ones bout my son, those mad eme cry
ones bout abandoned babys, dreamsrelating to item i see on news next day , they are bit weird,
also lots of dreams about my mam, (mam been gone now 15 years) dreamt she came back but not for long, and had to return
then theres the flash backs of dreams ive had, and they crop up in whatever im doing, the just come to mind,i see a clip of a dream i had weeks ago, its like some onesaying remember this,
cooking tea earlier i had flash back of a dream i had weeks ago i didnt remember at time, it would apear it was something to do with old school friends daughter was in school with, like the young man whose funeral we went to yesterday, i can see now, the coach trip, lads, pulling in to somewhere off a motorway on way to or back from somewhere visited for day, see fighting at the roadside place,
thats how the boy died, on trip back from day out at man u footy, on motorway
in a way you learn to live with these freaky things, just dont want the ones involving family doctor said if i went to yoga maybe it would help me relax

Well I have the bad dreams and wierd dreams and don't take medication from the doctor so I think it is down to the disturbed sleep we sufferers get and the constant tiredness.
I never know if it is my arthritis or fm making me ache altho the ribs aching are definitely fm. I get fed up with worrying about whether a pain is something else or fm, don't want things put down to fm if they ought to be investigated further or dealt with in a different way but how do we know, docs seem happy to keep saying fm, blame it on fm.

Liz, I know exactly where my pains are coming from, my arthritis is in my knees, hands, toes, spine but that's a mess anyway. The fm is a different pain and sciatica different altogether, causes me to wince and take a quick intake of breath. My cancer doctor has told me to report any different pain I get to him, however small, he then has it checked out to make sure it isn't cancer spreading.
Julie Ann, I also get flashbacks of dreams, and often dream the same one a few times with months in between. My dreams are so vivid sometimes, I have trouble deciding if it was a dream or it actually happened. I remember them for weeks afterwards which doesn't help. Your dreams where things happen and comes true later, I don't like those at all, and I usually know which they are because I worry for days on end about them. I'm positive nightmares are down to broken sleep, never used to get them when I slept well.

I seem to be doing ok on the tramadol as long as I don't take it more frequently than 6hour intervals and always just before or just after food.
Can't say whether the paul mckenna thing is doing much good with my sleep but it's very relaxing when I'm lying in bed. Some of the recommendations are that you shouldn't go to bed unless you're sleepy, should try to avoid naps during the day and only use the bed for sleep or s*x (ie don't read in bed). There are some good tips in the book but most of it is common sense. I did discover that if I wake up in the middle of the night, listening to the cd again is a really bad idea...it wiped me out for nearly 36 hours was so sleepy (ie blink too long and nod off - even standing up/walking).
I've not been around much at all Liz, so haven't seen a thread i'll maybe have to search for it. Have you considered that maybe taking meds will help you feel a bit better and thus help you to lose weight? I'm just looking at it from another point of view is all, I guess I'm lucky in that I've not put any weight on with it. I'll happily trade anyone for these new eye drops though...they sting like crazy for 20 minutes or more and I really don't think I need them or that they're doing any good.
Oh well, just needed a ramble. (If it takes me a while to reply I'm not ignoring people I'm just forgetful or not around coz of my eyes)

Hi Liz , I started putting on weight when I first went on hrt about 15 years ago or more, and have turned into my Mum, she put on weight as she aged altho she was never on hrt so not sure what to blame. I did have amitryptiline for sleeping but it did no good at all so don't bother with that, and I can manage the pain with anadin extra etc on an occasional basis, so don't see the point in taking painkillers/anti inflammatories every day. I have osteo arthritis in both knees and a bit in my neck and shoulders and also the calcific tendonitis in both shoulders too, so take painkillers for that if and when it comes but prefer to stay off medication as much as poss, while I can cope. I would be able to get more exercise, walking etc if I wasn't so heavy so that's another reason to lose some weight, think I might have lost a pound or so lately as I am trying to cut back on food intake a bit, don't eat so much bread as I did, altho it is hard, I love toast lol take care, hope your eye problem goes away soon Lizx

Hi Julie, it's awful when you are restricted in what you do, I am hoping by the time I get grandchildren, I might have shaken off the fm. When I think of all the children I have minded and carried around etc i would hate to not be able to do it with my own grandchildren. Hope you all feel better soon, maybe when we get a little warmth and sunshine.

Julie, they're called Alomide. You're probably right. I stopped taking them, I saw no reason to be taking them in the first place. Now I've got to try for an appointment with the GP to discuss it. I can't help but wonder if the specialist just said it to get rid of me because if he'd said there was nothing at all I might want to come back or keep him longer in the appointment. If there's nothing wrong with the eyes themselves then that's fair enough, it really only leaves the FM causing spasms in the eye muscles.

Evening ladies. I haven't posted here for a while. After having a generally improved time. And I'm sure you've all been there & then it kicks you for six. Got around to planting some primroses (15 off) for the spring & foxgloves (6 off) in the garden yesterday. Awkward & a bit painfull to do. but took my time & had abreak inbetween. Woke up today.....or should I say tried too. Pain levels back up. But worse couldn't get the other half of my brain to get going. Just kept falling asleep. Eventually got up 3:45pm, brain dead all day (or should I say evening) & right shoulder, side of neck & hip in alot of pain. Would make sense except I'm left handed. Because of this painkiillers had long worn out & out of scync. Taking tramadol 100mg 6 times a day + paracetamol. Had some fun on the boards, helps keep me sane. But now its late again 1:27am & dreading going back to bed. If I don't sleep, I'll be @@@@@@ If I do, to what existance & time will I find. Oh besides, had letter back from pain dept for appointment next month. Only 10mths for after I had the failed neck denevation treatment.
My apologies. I don't usually grumble, just needed to tonight. I Hope you are all feeling that much better tomorrow. Steve xxx

Hi all, well now I have a stinker of a cold to help things along lol, ache all over and my nose is so sore from blowing it with an almost constant headache so couldn't sleep very well yesterday, hope today is a bit better and quieter outside too, first of all neighbour had some fascia boards etc delivered and then when that van went, the bin lorry came, reverses down the close to under the bedroom window so the beep beep and then the men shouting to each other and the wheely bins being lifted on the ramp to be emptied, well who could sleep through that? I kept going hot and cold and dozed then woke, so by the time I got up I had pain and stiffness everywhere and o.h. was in a bad mood with his cough, and expected me to cook dinner and wash up, had to do it or wouldn't have eaten! Let's hope we all have a bettter day today, altho I need to get some sleep before I call it today lol
take care Lizxx

Going on train and then theres a bus at other end that goes to all three hospitals so will go on that and then a long walk finding the right department.
Got letter yesterday that am still going to be getting my incapacity benefit for a few more years so thats one worry out the way and just waiting for date for DLA tribunal dreading that one.
Steve grumble and moan away it does help and we know how you feel but when your flowers come up will of been worth the agony.
