It may be that the driver has somehow become corrupted or it may just have given up the ghost - they do.
The good news is that new ones are cheap and easy to fit.
Is it an internal one?

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 15:50

yes it is

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 15:55

First off I would try updating the driver.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 15:55

When you say that it stopped working, what does it actually do?

skwirrel 1

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 15:57

errol can he not just go into device manager remove drive from ther reboot reinstall drivers

worth a try

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:09

Why will you?
I'm talking about CREATING a restore point rather than rolling back to one. Plus, you do not lose actual files when using System Restore.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:10

That's what I am talking about Surfmonkey - just suggesting that a Restore Point is created first.
I was going to try updating the driver.

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 16:12

but will I need to remember when this drive stopped working coz I can't actually remember how long this has been like this.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:15

Nooooooooooooooooooo
We're merely creating a new restore point so that if things go wrong when we update the driver we can roll the machine back to the state it is in now.

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 16:17

oh ok now I understand, is that where I go through device manager to do that

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:21

No we'll be using device manager later.
Unfortunately I usually prefer it if other people don't make suggestions when I am trying to talk someone through a solution because it can cause confusion and even cause PC problems sometimes.
It's not because I am being rude, it just makes it easier for the person I am talking through.
