Thought it would be nice to hear from older members (most of the newer ones are not known to me).
Perhaps post a memory or two. Would be particularly nice to hear from those who don,t post much, but have remained in touch. (the odd one occasionally E mail me)
Would be invidious to mention the older, present day posters, so I will hark back to the days of CB; Derbyshire Dancer; Sue smith.

Happy days

Derbyshire Dancer was the first person to 'talk' to me on here and gave me help and advice on my Family Tree.

CB and I found out that we had a mutual friend who only lived a few doors from me... so we probably even met each other in our teens.

Harry you used to do interesting threads and it was always a joy to post a reply on them

Happy Days Harry...haven't seen your name here for a while now. You used to put some good threads up.
I'm still here, and approaching 4 years as a GR member .

I remember Derbyshire Dancer, CB, Lemon Nelly, Old Crone and many others who don't post any more.
There was a lovely thread on here just a couple of weeks ago mentioning all the 'old' members, and I was surprised to see that many in fact ARE still here, but it's just that they don't post.
If I can find it I'll bump it up.

K x

EDITED: I've found one, I've nudged it, it's called "Things that happened on this site" .
And there's another, it's "who doesn't/is unable to post"

I think it was February 2003 when I joined.

Anyway, I know it was the year after it started.
There were about 100,000 members and only one million names on the database.

When did it start? 2002?

Michelle looks like the longest serving member on this thread, with membership number 3276.
Mine's 175607, a couple of other posters predate me.

Thank you all. Steve - that,s one of the reasons I posted the thread. I feel like a newbie "I a stranger and afraid; in a world I never made."(Houseman).
Was hoping to hear from a couple of Jean's.
Best wishes to all Happy days

I've been a member since 2003, number 451056. Have always had the same name.
Went to a couple of 'south' meets a few years ago,
met (amongst others) Colin from Hampshire Theresa from Cork, Gwyn from Kent, Taff, one of the Malcs and a few more who aren't on GR any more.
We haven't had a South meet for a long time!!!

I tend to post intermittently and can kill a thread with no problem!!!

"A Stranger in a strange land" (heinlein)

I dont seem to fit in anymore, perhapes its because i am an old member in some ways but a new member in others, and my way of posting is not in style now

who knows

But do keep posting Harry as said "an interesting thread" will still be welcomed by a few if not all

Steve

Oh and harry if you keep posting it may encourage some others to respond

Ahh Maggie,

It seems to be the curse of an 'old' member. I have a habit of killing threads too, was beginning to take it personally........ LOL
