Evelyn,it's nice to hear from you. It will take a long time to get over your loss, it took my mother quite a while to get over the loss of my father, but as she told me it did get easier over time. Take care.
It will be lovely for you to have your daughter's company for a few days.
Hello to everyone else, hope you are all OK.
Love, Sallie.xx

Hi all xx
still cold here ............ it was -8C overnight, with the wind making it feel more like -14C
It's now about -3C at almost 2 pm
A lot of snow is being forecast for some time over night or tomorrow morning ................. THEN the temperature begins to rise, and we might have rain or freezing rain by late afternoon
YUCK
BUT ..................
OH arrives back this afternoon ...... his plane should be landing in about 2½ hours
so HE can do the shovelling of snow!!
I rarely use my tree on here ...... haven't looked at it for months, maybe years. But I took a quick look a short time ago.
It looks more cumbersome to use ....... and I didn't like the way long names were abbreviated. But, as I say, I don't use this one, so I'm not that worried!
I have a much fuller, private tree over on ancestry ...... and of course, much more detail on my home computer.

Hi Everyone
Warm weather is back with thunderstorms to go with it ,the weather is so strange this Summer.
I have been busy the last two days helping the Granddaughter find another rental before the baby arrives.
You would not believe what some people want for rent of a house and they are not very good either.
We have settled on a few good clean ones not to far from us and her Parents ...hopefully it won't be to long before they build there own. Getting excited now ,she is 6mths only another three to go.
Anne don't worry to much about work I am sure things will pick up soon, bills always get paid one way or another. What is the unemployment like in the UK, my Sister works for the Barnsley council and her hubby works for Virgin ,I hope there jobs are Ok. She does not say much lately about work .
Robert how are you ,any snow yet....I know I keep on about it but just the thought of it makes me feel cool.
Just got back from food shopping ,it gets more expensive every time I go.
I do have my tree on Genes but would like to put it on Ancestry but too worried about doing it just in case I loose it all. I think I may buy a tree I can load into my computer ...is Family tree maker any good does anyone know.
Anyway better start dinner or I will be in the doghouse ;-)

No, Susan, no snow yet but it doesn't worry us up here or over the Border in Scotland. Last year at this time we had 7 inches of snow but we just get on with it!!

Well its a very busy chatty thread today
Susan if you want my penny worth - I use to use Family Tree Maker - but it got a little cumbersome to move around and we have some very big families - Remember this was about 6 years ago - so it could have changed now
We (OH & I) did a big comparison of all the tree programmes around and the best one we found was ROOTSMAGIC amazing never had a problem - OH loves it and finds it so easy to use & it has a problem finder programme as well.
Which means it sifts through your data & gives you a list of possible problems - eg Child born before mother - or Mother was 110 when child born - or child born 20 years before parents marriage & other silly things you miss type in
Its a really good programme and i can highly recommend it
If you need any more info let me know
Sally - you can change the new GR tree back to the old one - I think they are keeping both at the moment - it must be very frustrating for you.
Sue i think you can just gedcom your tree on to Ancestry - you won't lose your original - just use a USB memory stick - Ancestry has some very useful hints that apprear on the tree - sometimes you have to take it with a pinch of salt.
I have mine on GR & Ancestry (only partial trees on each) depends what i need to find - as both have their good points - my main tree is on ROOTSMAGIC or will be when I get the time to load it all on - OH has all his tree loaded & looks really good.
Once mine is loaded in full we will set up another one & merge the two trees. Goodness only know when that day will be.
Sylvia - I hope you have a good reunion with your husband this weekend - extrra special meal tonight then.
Cynthia - my OH loved watching "Call the Midwife" I didn't think it would be his kind of story - but he thought it was really good Sunday evening TV
So your oh may like it too if he gives it a chance - Miranda Hart is in it this week - so there coudl be a few laughs as well
Better go - boss just come back - & bit a bit long on this now - got carried away on the Tree's - I can talk on that subject for england if i have to.
Will pop back in tomorrow
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hello everyone,
Sorry I've not been on to say Hello before now but having a bad time with health problems - not helped by the smell of the oil based paint that Alf insisted on using in the conservatory. He has stopped for awhile but has a little more to do.
Not sure I like the new Sherlock - I went to bed before the end but read the next day's review of it!
Lovely to see you back Evelyn - I know how you feel and send love and best wishes.
Just tried to see my Tree but it won't load at all - waited and waited and then sent a message - wonder if that will get through.
Love to you all and good wishes.

Morning all dark & dingy here today
Reece nice to see you back - sorry you have had some more ill health - my wishes for a speedy recovery & better health as the weather improves and spring is on the way - time seems to fly theses days
No overtime - so not sleeping well as worring over the potential bills :-( I know it wont do any good but my mind goes round & round anyway
Monday would have been my mums 90th birthday - so my thoughts are there as well - its 20 years this year since I lost her - seems like yesterday really - had a little snivell or two
Its a big year this year - my FIL is 90 in May - MIL 88 in May - OH 60 in Sept - he said he is is going to be 59+1 from Sept on - & + an extra year from then on - OH & I will have been together 20 years in April.
Sally - surprised you can't go back to the old Tree - what a lovely idea for a birthday present - you get to spend time together and get the tree sorted
ROOTSMAGIC is a stand alone programme like FTM - you can buy the discs or download it - I think its the same price either way - but I still prefer to get discs in the post as I always have something in my hand - still don't trust downloads - since we had a computer crash & they wiped our hard drive.
ROOTSMAGIC 5 is the new one - you can get loads of extra discs with info on if you go forthe Platinum set - we have Rm3 - and that is fine for us - have to admit am contemplating upgrading to Rm5 as you can have this as a USB programme now as well - but as we have a laptop we take it with us anyway.
I would still like a IPAD2 if i ever had the money - as they are so small & light to use when wandering around - take up a lot less space than a laptop when on the move - or at a records office. Its the big thing on my wishlist (apart from a lottery win to clear all our bills)
Well this won't get the work done - as I have a few hours to myself as OH out on a lesson this morning & I want to get a couple of hours of tree time in as don't get the chance much these days.
Will pop back again later if I can
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Sorry to hear you haven't been well Reece..........I know the smell of paint can affect a lot of people.
I love the new Sherlock and think they have done a good job in modernising it........quirky but understandable. Even my son is enjoying it - and we don't often watch the same kind of programme!!!!
What makes me smile is the fact that someone, in the previous episode, muttered something about Sherlock having Asperger's! That is SO true.......every portrayal of Sherlock Holmes shows that Conan Doyle wrote of someone suffering with that condition - even though he didn't realise it! The condition wasn't really recognised until the 1940's so before that, sufferers were just thought to be 'eccentric' or 'odd' - Einstein for instance......
The way Sherlock reacted when given the presentations, is exactly the same way my daughter reacts when she is given a gift at Christmas.
Rootsmagic sounds interesting..........I've never heard of it though. May take a looksee although I do use FTM.
Staying awake and worrying won't solve your probs Anne.......you need your sleep to help you cope......but I've been there and know how you feel.
I would love an ipad too.....my grandchildren have them and they are fantastic. Wonder what the next innovation will be?
It seems as though Genes have taken down the new tree because so many members were having problems and they are working on it over the weekend. So the old tree is back in the meantime.
I must be one of the lucky ones because I have had very little trouble with the new one - and most of the hiccups I've encountered were my own fault........hadn't stopped and thought things through enough... :-S
Well, can't stop here nattering all day....must get something done.....deep joy.
Love to all. Cx. <3

Cynthia - thank you - I know what you mean - but it still happens
Look on the internet - there is a Rootsmagic site and they give you a good run down of all the high points of the new Version 5
I think there are some comparison sites as well Sue if you wan to compare FTM & RM
I never had any problems with the NEW TREE either - I quite liked it - the odd thing missing - mainly it was ok and I di quite like it
Well OH will be abck soon & expect me to be ready to go shopping
Will pop back later if I can
take care :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) <3

Sun is shining and I must get out into the garden - plants need to be in the ground and not in pots!
Have not been able to do much FH lately, but yesterday took a look on Ancestry to see what others were doing on the extended branches of my tree.
Some curious facts emerged:
1. The same tree owner of 2 different trees appears to have hedged his bets on the birth date for a Sarah Hayward, even though one date meant that she married William Pardoe Bonney at age 14!!! 2. Many other trees also had the birth date as 1799 not 1790. 3. If people had looked for a marriage on Family Search for William Pardoe Bonney they would have found a marriage in 1813 to Sarah Hayward. Checking Family Search for the birth date and parents of Sarah Hayward gives a birth near to Sudbury, Suffolk in 1790 - Sarah would then have been 23 when she married. 4. One tree has her marrying William Bonney who dates are given as (1785-1786) with a child born 1814 ?!?
Are people really this stupid when completing their trees? Why do they bother?
They would benefit from buying Roots Magic as it would point out these glaring errors - thnaks Tabitha for the info on this programme.

Further to my last post I have another puzzle.
The 1841 Census shows the Bonney family as Beney - although this has been amended to Bonney as a transcription error. All the children are there and the age of Sarah is 50 - this 'confirms' her birth date as 1790 NOT 1799. However on the 1851 and 1861 Censuses, there is a 10 year difference in the age she would be if born in 1790 - i.e. 52 on the 1851 not 60 and 62 not 70 on the 1861 Census.
Would like to know what you think please.

Hi everyone
snow all gone here. Temperature has warmed up. So, pouring with rain
Hi Old,
to take your last posting first .................... enumerators on the 1841 were supposed to round down the ages of all people over 15 to the nearest 5
........... so someone showing as age 50 on there, would actually be between 50 and 54. Thus, if Sarah had said she was 52, the enumerator would round it down to 50 ............. and it all fits in with later censuses.
Not all enumerators did the rounding down (of course!!) ............. if their age ends as 5 or 0, then it probably has been rounded down. If it ends in any other number, then it has not been rounded.
Second, the age on a census can differ by as much as 2 years from the age on the next census. It all depends on the date when the census was taken vs the birth date of the person. The person was asked how they were on (say) March 30 ........................ their birthday might be on March 31, so they were already seeming to be one year out.
As for your first posting ........................ Yes, people really are that stupid
............ and ancestry encourages that stupidity by all the little leafs indicating hints and possible matches.
Far too many people really do not check details ............ and they are very liable to see that "leaf", and think this MUST be mine.
My great aunt and her husband were both born around 1875 in Lancashire, married in 1902, and left 2 days later for the US. They lived in Newark, New Jersey until they died in the '40s and '50s.
I got a "leaf" that directed me to another tree .......................... he had MY great aunt and husband on there, taken from my tree ................... as parents of children born around 1805 :-0
It turned out that the parents of those children did have exactly the same names as my relations, were also born in Lancashire, and also emigrated to Newark, New Jersey, where they lived and had their children ............ but 100 years earlier
Fortunately, the tree owner was very good ...... I sent a message to him through ancestry, and also posted a message on his tree. He removed my relations within a couple of days. I never got a message from him though!
I made my tree a Private one after that ..................... people will get a match with one name in it, but then they have to contact me to get any further information.
